  1. In spite of his early struggles at Rochester, he's probably been our most big league ready prospect for quite some time now. Hopefully, he hits well enough to make Shafer the odd man out when Arcia's ready to go. After that it's likely only a matter of time before Shane Robinson goes back to being--Shane Robinson and Hicks will replace him by mid June.
  2. You're right, we don't know what has changed. And if you're also right that the only thing that's changed is results, then I'm good with that.
  3. Since neither Mastroianni nor Presley is in the big leagues now I feel that we can safely say we're over them. Maybe even to the point of not calling that situation a debacle.
  4. Pinto has had plenty of opportunity to show he can stop a base stealer or do anything you would expect a big league catcher to do defensively. A small sample of that opportunity has been in the big leagues and nearly 10 years in the minor leagues. HE CAN'T. He's a DH. Nothing more. Deal with it.
  5. Let's let Sano get here and show he deserves the job before we even think about trading what we've got. Denard Span, Ben Revere anyone?
  6. I'd be more concerned if not for the fact that when you read those reports 2 & 3 & 4 years ago, the only one from among Sano, Buxton, Santana & Vargas that was expected to make a contribution prior to 2016 was Sano and obviously the injury has set him back at least half a season. I'd also be more concerned if all the reports regarding the strength of our system were coming from 34 Kirby Puckett Place but most of those reports were coming from the same sources as the reports about the Cubs & Astros systems. I understand the urge to blow it up but also remember that when that happened in 1982 it still took 5 years to exceed the .500 ball threshhold. Not sure if in today's McDonald's world where we don't want to wait for anything, the fanbase is going to accept blowing it up and waiting 5 years for the payoff-hence the desire to try to bring the kids along slowly and work them into a group that you would at least hope you can try to contend with. Bottom line is there is no right way and no wrong way. The only way that matters is the one the eventually works.
  7. The problem with continuing to teach Santana to play CF is that if he's still playing there in 2 years this team will be set back a decade.
  8. I'm not sure anyone ever really thought of Plouffe or Dozier as a long term shortstop in the bigs. Not sure why they would have. Santana went to CF not because of his lack of ability at SS but because of a lack of options in CF.
  9. Worth noting that we're talking about a guy with 137 games above AA ball who spent two thirds of his rookie year playing a position he'd played 25 minor league games at.
  10. It was a hell of a lot more impressive than one Dozier made last night that looked like my grandmother threw. Still waiting for a metric to compare throws to those made by decesed grandmothers.
  11. At least Trevor can take solace in the fact that Sano may be gaining on him, but with a .200 batting average in AA ball he is doing so, not at the speed of light, or even at the speed of sound, but at the speed of smell. Not excactly the start Twins fans were hoping for but probably one that lends credence to the decision to start him out in Chattanooga.
  12. Your nephew's traveling team probably had video manned by some overzealous parent who is convinced his kid is the next Mike Trout.
  13. I was only joking until I looked at the stats on the official team website and even they don't list a CF. Try anything. Anyone. Just not these guys.
  14. Bring him up and let him play CF. Overall bottom line both offensively & defensively can't be any worse than the guys we're running out there now.
  15. Only three of the eight (barely) worth a hill of beans.
  16. I have no problem with Hicks and / or Rosario replacing the current clown show in CF. Hell I'd even run Pinto out there rather than current duo. He can't be any worse defensively in CF than he is behind the plate, can he? As far as Arcia, sending him down would most likely result in him putting up monster numbers in AAA and the fans howling about the fact that you sent him out in the first place. Just kidding about the Pinto bit. Maybe?
  17. I don't have a problem "making an example" of Arcia. But if the guy you're putting into the lineup to do so is Shane Robinson then you're "making an example" of the wrong guy. If Robinson is your alternative, the guy you "make an example" of needs to be either the guy who writes Robinson's name on the lineup card or the guy who put him on the roster. We've had a million Shane Robinson's over the years: Tommy Watkins, Darrin Jackson, Alex Cole, J.T. Bruett, Carmen Castillo, Andre David. Do I need to go on?
  18. I'll give you Cuddyer but Kubel? Do you REALLY think we'd have been better off not letting him walk? And other than possibly Morneau can you name one guy we've traded prior to hitting free agency that even 15% of the fan base was clamoring to keep? And, yes it's easy to your our 20/20 hindsight and say we should have kept Morneau & Liriano but at the time we move them most fans were thinking we should have done so about 3 years sooner.
  19. I'd hardly call a pitcher saying he might rather be traded than pitch in relief a "temper tantrum." In some locales that might be called spirit or spunk.
  20. I hope that Santana being gone leads to a better chance that Meyer & May get to throw to some big league batters sooner rather than later.
  21. We have a left fielder who will only strike out less than 200 times because he won't play 162 games. We have a CF platoon that will be lucky to strike out less than 100 times and put up a .625 OPS. Exactly who, that is ready to make quality major league plate appearances, is Hunter taking at bats away from?
  22. I beleive the quote said Santana would be playing CF by May 1 and made no reference to Buxton being up by May 1.
  23. If they can get guys out when the real bullets start flying I could care less about where they came from and what they did before they got here. I guess we'll find out soon enough. That's why they play the games.
  24. Kind of early to be focusing on what we CAN'T get out of this situation. Let it play out and see what happens.
