  1. Worth noting that we're talking about a guy with 137 games above AA ball who spent two thirds of his rookie year playing a position he'd played 25 minor league games at.
  2. It was a hell of a lot more impressive than one Dozier made last night that looked like my grandmother threw. Still waiting for a metric to compare throws to those made by decesed grandmothers.
  3. At least Trevor can take solace in the fact that Sano may be gaining on him, but with a .200 batting average in AA ball he is doing so, not at the speed of light, or even at the speed of sound, but at the speed of smell. Not excactly the start Twins fans were hoping for but probably one that lends credence to the decision to start him out in Chattanooga.
  4. Your nephew's traveling team probably had video manned by some overzealous parent who is convinced his kid is the next Mike Trout.
  5. I was only joking until I looked at the stats on the official team website and even they don't list a CF. Try anything. Anyone. Just not these guys.
  6. Bring him up and let him play CF. Overall bottom line both offensively & defensively can't be any worse than the guys we're running out there now.
  7. Only three of the eight (barely) worth a hill of beans.
  8. I have no problem with Hicks and / or Rosario replacing the current clown show in CF. Hell I'd even run Pinto out there rather than current duo. He can't be any worse defensively in CF than he is behind the plate, can he? As far as Arcia, sending him down would most likely result in him putting up monster numbers in AAA and the fans howling about the fact that you sent him out in the first place. Just kidding about the Pinto bit. Maybe?
  9. I don't have a problem "making an example" of Arcia. But if the guy you're putting into the lineup to do so is Shane Robinson then you're "making an example" of the wrong guy. If Robinson is your alternative, the guy you "make an example" of needs to be either the guy who writes Robinson's name on the lineup card or the guy who put him on the roster. We've had a million Shane Robinson's over the years: Tommy Watkins, Darrin Jackson, Alex Cole, J.T. Bruett, Carmen Castillo, Andre David. Do I need to go on?
  10. I'll give you Cuddyer but Kubel? Do you REALLY think we'd have been better off not letting him walk? And other than possibly Morneau can you name one guy we've traded prior to hitting free agency that even 15% of the fan base was clamoring to keep? And, yes it's easy to your our 20/20 hindsight and say we should have kept Morneau & Liriano but at the time we move them most fans were thinking we should have done so about 3 years sooner.
  11. I'd hardly call a pitcher saying he might rather be traded than pitch in relief a "temper tantrum." In some locales that might be called spirit or spunk.
  12. I hope that Santana being gone leads to a better chance that Meyer & May get to throw to some big league batters sooner rather than later.
  13. We have a left fielder who will only strike out less than 200 times because he won't play 162 games. We have a CF platoon that will be lucky to strike out less than 100 times and put up a .625 OPS. Exactly who, that is ready to make quality major league plate appearances, is Hunter taking at bats away from?
  14. I beleive the quote said Santana would be playing CF by May 1 and made no reference to Buxton being up by May 1.
  15. If they can get guys out when the real bullets start flying I could care less about where they came from and what they did before they got here. I guess we'll find out soon enough. That's why they play the games.
  16. Kind of early to be focusing on what we CAN'T get out of this situation. Let it play out and see what happens.
  17. If they don't it will because they have not forced the issue. That's on them.
  18. Pretty sure you're going to hear those paste-eaters even if Mauer puts up an MVP season.
  19. Of course he's likely to regress in some areas. Any player who performs for a season at an almost unheard of pace in a certain area is likely to regress in that area. Almost every player in the game will regress in one part of his game or another. Many will also progress in some parts of their games as well. Ulitmately the better players will be those that progress more than they regress. It's not rocket science kids. We can debate it all we want. But in the end all we can really do is let the games be played and see what happens. Enjoy the season.
  20. Not a big Nunez fan (especially defensively) but there are not a lot of better utility type options available. The minor league guys who project for that kind of role don't do much for me and a guy like Polanco needs to get consitent at bats for at least most of this year.
  21. "The Twins had 13 pitchers who were average or better and yet they managed to finish almost at the bottom of the league in pitching." Maybe the new fangled metric is B.S.
  22. “The perennial favorite Detroit Tigers still have David Price, Justin Verlander and Miguel Cabrera.” “The AL Champion Royals still have that speedy offense and one of the best bullpens in baseball.” “The White Sox have improved across every position and look to be real contenders!” “Don’t discount the Indians! This team has a sneaky offense and a solid rotation!” And yet, one of these teams, quite possibly even two, will finish with a sub .500 record. I guess that's why they play the games.
  23. Not not a big Nunez fan but don't really see any youngsters who are a better fit for what we are expecting from that spot. They traded for Milone for a number of reasons not the least of which is that he is a veteran left handed pitcher with with proven major league track record.
  24. "Pinto claims his main purpose for playing in the winter leagues this offseason was to focus on his defensive skills." The man's been a professional baseball player since 2006. How did it take until 2014 to realize he needs to work on defense?
