    I'd be more worried about this if he were 23 or 24 or 25 instead of 21. Things change fast. When we called Buxton up and not Sano, people started reading into that move thinking that there might be issues with Sano. Now, were less than two months later and Sano is in the big leagues, batting cleanup and looking like the real deal and people are stressing about Buxton.

    The last time we traded away OF depth because other guys were "on the cusp" it only took 2 and a half years to pan out. Exercise caution.

    Very unlikely to catch KC whether they stand pat or not. Not giving up assets for a CHANCE to get to a one game playoff series in not as bad as it seems.

    Agree that Gibson is a middle of the road # 3 type starter. You can never get too many of those when you haven't had a legitimate # 1 for 8 years.

    You can never have too much pitching, especially starting pitching. If you think you do, the baseball gods will bite you in the ass. Injuries. Dead arms. Inexcpicable loss of control. Bullpen so bad starters have to throw 8 innings every night. The day you think you have too much starting pitching is the day you had better start looking for more.

    Been saying for months that when Sano comes up make him the 3B. Put Plouffe in a Super Utility role that was envisioned years ago for Cuddyer-5 starts a week between the 2 corner infield and outfield spot and DH. He's never been a bat only guy in the minors and if you want to get him acclimated to the bigs put him where HE is comfortable-whether anybody else is comfortable with him playing there or not.

    I can give you this year. MAYBE next year. But to say we have to think of more than this year and next as transition years, I can't do. At some point it's gotta be time to put the big boy pants on and contend young core or not. Gotta step up.

    You are correct in your Arcia assessment that the Twins have always valued defense. But let's think back to Randy Bush. He played a total of 50 games in the field from 1982-1985 and never hit higher than .249. But he showed enough with a little power that, in 1986, and even to a greater extent after Tom Kelly took over, that they worked with him to become an adequate defensive player and a vital part of two World Series winners. Do we really want to trade Arcia and see his offensive potention be realized somewhere else? I think the Red Sox just called looking for an eventual replacement for Big Papi.

    Could not agree more. He is at best a utility guy. Capable of filling in at a number of spots for a very short time. And if OF is one of those spots then something is horribly flawed with this team.

    He's leading the league in RISP and only one guy with enough PA's to qualify for the Batting title ahead of him in average. So maybe the bigger question is how is he able to drive in as many runs as he has with guys in front of HIM not getting on base?

    Which still leaves a gaping hole in the top 4 if you move Mauer down to the lower half. I may be in the minority but I'm a huge fan of both Hicks & Rosario but neither should be in the top 4 of a contending big league team at this point in their careers.

    MOST teams that win a World Series do so by getting unprecedented performances both with the sticks and on the hill. If not, they probably would have won the series the year before.

    I'd have no problem going with a 6 man rotation but I'd rank them 1-6 and with off days the bottom guys should get skipped in favor of the top guys. I'd even do the same thing with a 5 man rotation.

    I will vehemently disagree with the statement that the fans should not pick the all-stars. Fans should ALWAYS pick the all-stars. After all, the game is for the fans. The current system is perfect. Fans select the starters. Players select most of the pitchers and 1 reserve at each position. Managers select the rest except the final selection. Are there going to be issues with fan balloting? Of course. Think there wouldn't be similar issue if the players or managers had more say in the matter? If so you're delusional.

    Perkins should be a slam dunk. Every other guy mentioned in the article and thread-close but no cigar. All nice ball players but nary an all-star in the bunch. And that's OK. I'm more concerned about what they do in the real games over the next 4 months and next 4 years for that matter. Would love to see a couple guys go out and play at a level that leaves no doubt. Perk is the only guy who fits that mold thus far.

    I would hope that Correia's status in Houston would have no bearing on Buxton's here. That would just be foolhardy.

    Beats the hell of going to the well and pulling out Darin Mastroiani or Sam Fuld or Alex Presley or Wilkin Ramirez or Clete Thomas.

    Do you know what they call guys who have mastered AAA ball? AAA ball players. Move him up. Nothing to be gained by having a guy with 550 big league plate appearances and currently has a .965 OPS in AAA stay in AAA.
