    IDK, they really aren't the same player. Jackie Bradley Jr is a career .230 hitter, in Boston, with a monster lineup around him, but he still struggles at the plate, but Boston keeps him in the lineup for obvious reasons. If JD Martinez hit like Jackie Bradley Jr he wouldnt stick around too long. Byron Buxton when healthy offers a few more things than Sano does. If Sano clicks and he clicks for a good 10 years or more, he will put up the prettier HOF type of numbers, but if he doesnt click, he's more expendable than Byron is. Normally speed and defense doesn't get you in the HOF, power and hitting does, but speed and defense plays a role that a guy like Sano doesnt have. For instance, the twins have never played around with moving Buxton to different positions just in order to get him in the lineup, but they have with Sano, and people still talk about it with the Cruz signing that Sano might have a tough time getting at bats.

    Look at Nelson Cruz's production as a 25 and 26 year old. Everyone thinks he's the bomb and all but we constantly pick on guys like Kepler, Rosario, etc.... Sure some guys don't figure it out, but when you have the tool set these guys have you have to let them try and figure it out. Cruz didn't perform till he was 28. So let these guys like Kepler, Rosario, Buxton continue to develop as long as they are putting in the work, give them a chance, quit writing them off. Now it's different when you have a guy with all of the tools like Sano and it appears that he doesnt want to work hard. Then you have more reason for doubt. Plus those other guys are multi tool guys, speed, defense, etc... Also play into the equation. Aaron Hicks is another good example, hit 27 Hrs this year? Turned 28 this year. Some of these guys need to get that experience and delvelop.

    Well the way for teams to handle that is by not offering those guys anything, that as a result will drop the value of their offers from those west coast teams because they won't have any competition for those players and soon they won't like the value of their offers anymore. Let them corner themselves out of the market. I mean if we all already know they won't sign, why bother?

    I think the Twins have put themselves in a spot where they can go in either direction and be in ok shape. For instance if the core players like Buxton, Sano, et al. all figure it out and with the new additions the Twins have a great season then it would appear that they have a nice stockpile of players that they could trade to get a nice deadline deal that could put them over the top. Also if everything falls apart again like last year then again they have some good depth and talent that looks to be close to ready to start implementing a transition to a new wave of potential players ready to take the reigns. To me now it's just up to the players to determine which route that management will have to go.

    It would be nice to still have Pressly because of this situation now. But I don't see a reason why both Romero and Mejia couldn't split the #5 spot in the rotation along with both spending time in the bullpen? Both could throw 100 to 125 innings and that would add up to one real good pitcher??

    Bottom line is they need one good starter and one good reliever added to this roster to compete. The lineup; eh I could look at it as the glass is half full or the glass is half empty; but instead I choose to look at it as, "hey, the glass (is only) half empty." Which means there is still half to go. Anyway, imagine if the Young guns all step forward and have a consistent season, not great or spectacular, but consistent. Everyone of them have shown flashes of greatness, so we all know that good is possible. 1. CF Buxton .265 .320 25 2B's 18 Hrs 90 runs 35 SB 2. I think that would put the lineup at about 775 runs. Modestly better than last year at somewhere around 740 runs or so. It would probably be enough to win 10 - 12 more games with the right pitching. Early on it seemed like the Twins lost a lot of 1 run games. These are all potential seasons for these guys and hardly any of those seasons get them on the all star team.

    I assume that Romero is no longer considered a prospect? I know he got some starts last year but so did Gonsalves? Just curious, I am also assuming that Romero will most likely be a top candidate to grab one of the last spots in the rotation?

    I saw on the mlb channel that the Whitesox may be going for Machado and or Harper? That would probably change the dynamics of the central a little bit?

    After reading the lead in I would have been cool with them hiring Torii Hunter!

    Maybe if he spends a month in jail he will lose some weight?

    As opposed to have been playing for a different team. Not too many big named players stay with the Twins, a la Torri Hunter etc...

    Hildy just isn't a closer type of pitcher. I think he's a great change of pace type of pitcher that can come in in the 7th and fool some guys, but that doesn't seem to be working in the 9th??

    Clicking on some of those other names like BJ Hermson was kind of interesting?

    Yes, it would allow for the Twins to pinch run for their catchers late in games.

    If he was great for the Twins why'd they get rid of him? Also I think it had more to do with Dougie baseball than LeCroy? Nonetheless both Ortiz and Dougie Baseball won the World Series for the Bosox. I think both of them kinda stuck their noses up at the Twins and went neener, neener, neener when they got those rings too. I'm kinda getting on board that I'd love to see Mauer go to one of those teams in a part time 120 game roll and win a World Series for himself while all of us Twins fans sit around wondering which minor leaguers are going to take over for the Twins in 2020.

    David Ortiz wasn't good enough for the Twins?? Prob more along the lines of what each team needs. The Twins need a guy they can pencil into their lineup everyday which it appears as if Mauer isn't that guy anymore. Boston or another team could be deep enough to use a guy like Mauer for 120 games a year and get real value out of those 120 games?

    Could you imagine Mauer in Boston's or New York's or Houston's lineups?? He'd score 90 - 100 runs in those lineups easy.

    It's an extra year of control, but, he has also hit .156 for the twins this year. What if he came up in Sept and raked and was able to get his average up to .200 - .220 or so, how would that affect his arbitration case? When he does go into arbitration the team can say he hit .156 in 2018, of he had improved on that then they wouldn't be able to say that anymore?

    Well he had MVP votes last year, so that puts him in some sort of an elite company. I don't think he's going to do well here, same as with Hicks, for Buxton to realize his true potential, for whatever reason it may be, I think he will need to be on another team to do it. I think if Hicks had stayed in Minnesota he would have been out of the league by now. Why it's like this I have no clue. I'm starting to feel the same about Sano too. I mean it could be something as simple as those guys are not leaders and they need to be on a team that has some leaders so they are not the primary focus or something. But whatever it is, they look to continue down this road of failure until they land somewhere else.

    Berrios has had a dip in velocity. He used to be 94 - 96 and now he's 91 - 92. Poor strike ratio,a good number of walks and a ton of home runs. He's looking more like Gibson the past few years.

    What are you basing Austin and Cave with?? I mean neither of them has exactly lit up the minor leagues and with the amount of MLB experience that they have is soooo limited most of the pitchers out there don't even hardly know who they are let alone have made adjustments to them. I mean Danny Santana looked really great over his first 200 to 300 at bats too? Kepler is hitting like .235? So their hitting can't exactly be proven to be better than Mauer and neither can their defense. So how are they exactly better in 200 at bats worth of MLB production?

    Time for what? So even if you don't have anyone to replace him get rid of him anyway? You might be right that the Twins record is what it is because of a lack of talent on the team, but getting rid of one of the decent guys with no real replacement isn't probably going to make the squad any better. Forsythe has been one of the Twins best players this month?

    Yeah, and what was the Twins record with Tom Kelly as the manager? Apparently winning didn't mean anything to him??. For that matter, I'd like to see the Twins overall record while Kirby Puckett was on the team?
