Front Page: Randy Dobnak Is More Than a Great Story
Twodogs replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Didnt Kintzler play in the independent leagues also?? -
I think every guy on the Twins roster has done something like that at some point in time. I agree that you handle that in house and remind him that of course every play is important and also that player life span doesn't last forever so take advantage of what you got when you have it so you have no regrets in the end. But doing something publicly does nothing for the concept of the team in the long run. You do something publicly when you are done with him and it's time to move on forever.

Yeah and it's possible that Bregman continues to get better. Devers is having a great year, but who knows at this point with him as he is so young. Maybe someone figures something out with him?

I think with a full season next year Sano could also be in the conversation. But next year. He missed a lot of games this year and still put up a lot of numbers.

Front Page: Win Tickets To Meet Luis Arraez!
Twodogs replied to John Bonnes's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
. You also have Biggio, Guerrero, and Bichette all on the same team. I think Arraez would have a shot if he had around 400 AB's, but I just don't think he has played quite enough? JMO -
I'm curious as to why no one has snapped up Scooter Gennett since SF released him. I mean the Twins don't need him because they have Schoop and Arraez but dang you'd think someone would grab him. He hit .310 last year and OPS'd .847. 23 Hrs, 30 2Bs and 181 hits. You'd think someone would want a shot at that??

I definitely think they should offer a QA to Odorizzi and offer both Gibson and Pineda 2 year contracts. That way if Odo goes elsewhere they get something for him and I think they can get both Gibby and Pineda on the cheap which if they fail makes it a lot easier to move on from them rather than going out and getting that supposed sure thing and have them fail then trying to hold on to them because of some ridiculous contract. So if they lucked out and got all of those guys back. You go with Berrios Odorizzi Gibson Sign Wheeler Pineda, use a new guy like Grateral until Pineda is ready to go. Then the rest of the depth is there for when the inevitable injury happens. These guys minus Wheeler are all short term contract obligations, none of them are 4 - 5 year contract guys due to their issues. So realistically it fits the Twins mold currently. Next question, is Pineda eligible for the playoffs next year? Or is being suspended from this year's postseason good enough??

Front Page: Is It Time for a New Bullpen Paradigm?
Twodogs replied to Patrick Wozniak's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I think this shows also that Rogers really should be an 8th inning guy or that guy that comes in and matches up with the other teams best lefty in a critical situation during the game. Could be 6th or 7th inning. But because he is the closer now he has to wait until the 9th. Real good closers are able to come in day after day typically, that's why they are given the 9th all of the time. So it would be nice if the Twins can develop a closer and move Rogers back to 8th inning or whenever he is needed type of guy. Also that would probably save Rogers a little as he wouldn't have to get 5 outs ever, he could come in and get 1 - 3 outs and be done and probably save some wear and tear on him.- 25 replies

I like what Levine and Falvey have done with some of their off - season signings not getting too overly committed to one guy etc.... However, I'd say its rather rash to say they are the best things to happen to the twins ever. I mean I think they still have a little ways to go to surpass Andy Macphail. Obviously everyone is irritated that they didn't add a better piece or two to the pitching staff at the deadline, however, neither did the Yankees? So maybe with the new deadline this year maybe some teams just weren't that willing to move people. So all of the balme can't be pinned on them either. It's a work in progress, no one will ever be able to be fully evaluated until their tenure is actually over. We can react to this and that in the short term, but long term they could end up being the best ever or the worst ever. We have to wait and see and cheer along the way.

Id say that they will have to wait and see if Gibby can recover from his latest setback. Maybe the right medication puts him back into an energized starter that can go 7+ like last year. If not then I'd be very leery of him. Odo and Pineda I feel are both candidates for the QO. At least the Twins would get something for them if they choose to go elsewhere.

Front Page: How Miguel Sano Turned His Season Around
Twodogs replied to Parker Hageman's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I think sometimes when a person is as naturally gifted as a professional athlete that when they were younger it didn't matter how they held the bat, they smashed no matter what, so people would probably be a little reluctant to fix something when he was killing the ball all over the place. Now when he wasn't doing well then they went to the fix.- 28 replies

Front Page: How Miguel Sano Turned His Season Around
Twodogs replied to Parker Hageman's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The adjustments gets his bat through the zone faster, he already hit well middle away, it was the upper fastballs and the ones inside that got him. So if he can hit those, then if they go back to pitching him middle away then that is sort of pitching into his strength. The only way would be to throw more off speed stuff, of which, lately, he has been laying off of.- 28 replies

Front Page: What Happened to Eddie Rosario’s Defense?
Twodogs replied to Andrew Thares's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Someone somewhere also probably said a few years back that Nelson Cruz has lost a step too. I find it difficult to replace a guy who has been doing it at the Major league level with some guys who project out to be Major league players. Eddie is a really good player and you're just not going to replace him with some guy who has never played at the MLB level as of this point in time. Now on the other hand, if when guys like Buxton go down with injuries the Twins were to bring one of those guys up instead of wade and Cave then they would be able to see if they can replace them.- 71 replies

Front Page: 2019 MLB Trade Deadline Review
Twodogs replied to Cooper Carlson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The Yankees will probably get a #1 starter by about Sept 15th in Severino. The Twins don't have anyone like that lurking around about to do a rehab assignment. -
I wonder if some of the GM's don't particularly care for Falvey and Levine? You know it's possible, maybe not likely, but possible that this is still a good ole boys club and maybe some of these GM's don't deal fairly with the Twins GM's. I know the Twins were deep into the conversation with Toronto for Stroman, to me it's weird that the Mets got Stroman for very little? Like where Toronto might have wanted some crazy sum of parts from the Twins but gave him to the Mets for what seems like not much? Seems like every off season these guys have been left behind by all of the super signings even though they have been very much in the conversation with all of the players? I'm just wondering if these guys just aren't part of the group? So we end up with guys like Nelson Cruz who is 39, but is having an amazing season and other moves similar to that? I know it sounds terrible, but I'm just wondering?

I think many of the prospects mean very little to the Twins especially with the core they have at this point in time. Buxton, Kepler, Polanco, Rosario, Sano, Garver, etc... There really isn't a lot of space on this team for position players in the minors. In my opinion many of those prospects should be worth more to other teams than they are to the Twins. Use them or eventually lose them anyway?? Go out and get a couple of relievers and or a starter and a reliever, etc....

Gallo prob isn't really a true CF, prob more like a firstbaseman playing in the OF, sorry Gallo, but that's just my opinion, anyway, he was moving towards the play, so in reality he probably gets thrown out more often on that play, not less. If Jackie Bradley, or one of those dudes made that play, Buck is still out. It was prob a 30 to 40 percent chance he gets gunned down if you consider that most CFers are better than Gallo, hell Buck would have thrown Buck out. Also the problem wasn't that Buck was faster than School, it's the fact that the ball was faster to 3rd than School, even if Cron is running the only way School scores is if the throw beats Cron by so much that he is able to stop and get caught up in a run down. Either way you look at it it was a bad play, because of 2 factors. Because 3rd base is not that important with 2 outs already, ground ball or sac fly doesn't do anything for you. Base hit scores Buck from 2nd and the one thing that no one is talking about is that it was a tie game. Had the Twins been up by 5 or 6 runs then it doesn't really matter, but it does matter in a tie game. Buck has been playing great baseball, he is one of the reasons the Twins are in first place. But that one was just a bad play, a mistake, it happens. You just hope he learns from it for a really important game like in the playoffs.

Mejia nibbled too much. Then he got himself in trouble and had to bring it and it got crushed. I would have rather seen him give up a solo shot or two rather than two walks and a three run bomb.

One of the Cardinal rules of baseball. Do not make the 1st or 3rd outs at 3rd base. He just didn't need to advance as he can't score on another sac as there are now 2 outs anyway and he can still score on a base hit as he was standing on 2nd? I also get it that most people will say that the Twins just haven't hit in clutch situations very well but even when someone is going good they are going to get out 7 out of 10 times so they need to take advantage of productive out when they can and getting thrown out at 3rd for the last out which nullified Schoops run was really bad. By the way Buxton has overall been doing a fantastic job this year, that was just a bad play that cost the team a win. So does something like that reduce his WAR?
