  1. St. Louis had 5 LHP in that series, and 3 of them started 5 of 7 games (Tudor 2, Magrane 2 and Mathews 1). LHP threw 29.2 IP, RHP threw 29.1 IP. Hrbek faced a LHP in 17 of 29 PA in that WS; 2-16 (.125), 3/1 K/BB (his only 3 K's in the WS) 1 HR, 6 RBI, but came up big when needed. He was 3-8 (.375), 0/4 K/BB (.583 OBP), 0 HR, 0 RBI against RHP Larkin PH 4 times, each of the 3 games in STL as the pitchers still hit in the NL park at that time, and once for Randy Bush (F-8 against Dayley in game 2, an 8-4 Twins win. If the game was closer I think Baylor, not Larkin, hits for Bush). He also played 1B in the 9th inning of game 1, a 10-1 blow out victory for the Twins. so his totals were; 5 GP, 0-3, 0/1 K/BB in the series. Even with all this information, it is hard to tell if Rocco PH's for Hrbek against Dayley in that spot, I don't think so because Hrbek was one of the core players, but he was struggling and the team was on the verge of elimination. Thank goodness TK let him hit!!
  2. No system is infallible. As for being unbiased, the zone is only as good as the parameters that define it - the zones we see on TV, on MLB.com, ESPN.com, Baseball Savant, etc... have all shown the same pitch in different spots. It should get better, we'll see...
  3. CG, 4 H, 8/0 K/BB, 105 pitches by Yamamoto, post-season pitching as it should be...
  4. It would be irresponsible to trade him just for the sake of trading him. After Lopez (who I suppose will be the subject of the next trade-bait article) and Ryan, there are zero starters I trust for next year, Ober being unable to regain velocity is quite concerning. Throw the kids out there? Only if you want a 100+ loss team. SWR is too inconsistent (typical of a 4th or 5th startter), Festa (if healthy enough to pitch in '26) Bradley, and Matthews have not shown that either is a MLB level SP, Abel did not look ready for prime time and Rojas, Raya, Prielipp and Morris are wild cards at this point, probably better off starting the season in the BP and moving to the rotation for '27, if there is a '27 season.
  5. Cardenas played more games and had a higher bWAR and fWAR than Correa despite playing 1/2 season less. Guzman only had 7.6 bWAR and 5.1 fWAR, he is above neither.
  6. My eye test of Lee's PAs tells me he is a horrible 2-strike hitter, swinging at some horrible pitcher's pitches and pitches just off the plate, just trying to make contact. If he can somehow improve upon this he becomes a serviceable MLB player.
  7. I would try him at 1B, the organization does not have one in the system, and we know the team isn't pursuing the Polar Bear....
  8. I had to write (read: cursive) the word awkward at work the other day; it looked really awkward...
  9. Starters aren't even making it out of the 3rd or 4th inning...managers very quick with the hook these days.
  10. So another team to compete for a manager with....
  11. Very few players play their whole career for one team anymore, you'd be a very petty, bitter man...
  12. Blame it on the only good season Julien has had/will have as a Twin (2023)...
  13. Toronto's bat's silent (so far) after a big series against the Yankees, maybe off days are over-rated...
  14. Polanco comes through again...
  15. Polanco comes through again....
  16. Raleigh with a big dump....
  17. Miller has settled in nicely, 50 pitches over 4 innings and only the Springer lead-off HR, well played young man, well played....
  18. Kirby (66 pitches), Castillo (15) and Gilbert (34), 3 of the 4 starters they have used in the play-offs pitched on Friday. Bazardo, Brash, Munoz and Speier all pitched in at least 4 of 5 games in the ALDS, and all pitched on Friday, with Bazardo, Brash, and Munoz all throwing multiple innings and at least 25 pitches each. Their staff is tired...
  19. No, but he threw 55 pitches on Wednesday...
  20. Still a lot of bullets thrown by a starter the team needs to go at least 5 innings because their BP is overused coming out of Detroit
  21. Leads to a 27 pitch inning by Miller, not challenging hitters....
  22. Seattle should have used a challenge there, Raleigh looked safe in super slo-mo....
  23. Anybody take time to wish Gasper a Happy 30th Birthday yesterday....
  24. Starting pitching injuries, according to Ron Darling...
  25. I will only use FanGraphs WPA to rate the players (take WPA for what it's worth) Batters: Correa (-1.99), Vazquez (-1.25), Lewis (-1.04), Wallner (-0.87), Outman (-0.75) Pitchers: Topa (-1.69), Adams (-1.52), Ober (-1.51), Cabrera (-0.91), Alcala (-0.87)
