    Looks like the refs are going to allow unconditional holding again today. Gads, I hate the Packers.

    The first half was closer than the score indicated, the second half wasn't. The defense looked pretty bad all game but the offense, even with a mixed up line, had some promise but they left some points on the field. Special teams - fake punt fiasco, long return on a squib kick - were pretty bad.

    He's a nice story but his break out was just SSS. He's a AAAA type and easily replaceable.

    I know this is a joke but that actually makes some sense, Cousins isn't this bad and he has some knowledge of the NFC East. But his contract makes him untradeable for us, right? Like, we'd have a 20m cap penalty?

    I'd probably keep Spielman over Zimmer at this point. I liked Zimmer, thought he was a fine coach and certainly better than Tice, Childress, etc that we've been forced to watch. But it's probably time to move on. Cousins is what he is. A top 15 QB but not a top 10. Not elite by any means but if the rest of your team is good enough, you can win with him. He's overpaid, I suppose, but that's on the Vikings and I generally don't blame labor for getting paid. Cousins needs to play better but it's realistic to expect that he will. He's not this bad. I agree that play-calling has been strange and sometimes panicky.

    Agree on Jefferson and the offense. Still concerned about the interior line but Bradbury has looked pretty good. The Colts game was ugly but they topped 30 in the other three. There's some hope there. Play calling sometimes makes me want to light my hair on fire. Defense. Man. Hunter and Barr were bigger than I realized but the interior D-line is just bad. And Kendricks isn't really made for fighting off blockers up the middle. I think the young corners might be something in the long run but growing pains will hurt. I dunno. Other than playing better, I'm not sure what they can do to be better. And with the schedule being so tough, it's hard to see this team finishing better than 7-9.

    Love Eddie but the FO doesn't have the payroll. We have to hope that this FO can change a nucleus of players and stay competitive like the Twins managed to do in the 2000s.

    Sure, explore. But I don't think we will move Buxton.

    I think they have to re-tool but they also have to re-examine this bullpen idea. Bad pitchers can put up decent numbers in SSS but I'm not sure any of our bullpen arms are really better than average at best. Most are relievers for a reason. Duffey might be the only one that is above average. We need starters to eat more innings. Berrios is capable but not permitted. I think Maeda can. And the Twins should throw money at Bauer (but they won't). The Twins offense struggled this year, being more or less middle of the road on everything and low on OBP. I would listen on anything involving Kepler or Polanco. Both have nice contracts that might make them more attractive to other teams but both had their career year last year and aren't really elite players. I agree that Rosario is gone. I think the Twins can make some sort of OF with Buxton, Kiriloff, Rooker, Larnich, Wade, Cave work. A couple of those hitters could be pretty good and raise the team's OBP. I don't think the 'hit for the moon' while making tons of outs is a great offensive strategy. We might want to consider making fewer outs. I'm still a believer in Sano so make the IF Sano/Arreaz/?/Donaldson. If the Twins move Polanco, I'm not sure if Lewis is ready but that would be the hope. Jeffers/Garver platoon should be serviceable. Twins IF depth seems a bit weak right now - Gordon, Blankenhorn, Lewis are probably all close but only Lewis has that big upside. The Twins also need to stay healthy.

    I guess I'm not quite as down on the offense. We have yet another OC and the front office has continued to ignore the interior OL but they've managed to top 30 points twice already while still trying to figure out the receiving core and a complete inability to use Irv Smith. They need to stay healthy but Cook and Jefferson look pretty good. But this defense, for many reasons, is much worse than I thought they'd be.

    For crying out loud. There are a lot of issues but releasing a 27 year old DH only player who was 18th on the team in WAR who later roided up in a hitters park isn't one of them.

    First, good for him. Second, I imagine next years Twins are going to look a bit different. Hope we win this series.

    Barr out for the year with pectoral injury. Sheesh. Rough season getting worse.

    You know, I was looking at their schedule and outside of Detroit and maybe Chicago (who we have trouble with) this is a pretty tough schedule. Houston isn't that good but Tennessee and Jacksonville are left from the AFC. But we also have to play Seattle, NO, GB and Tampa on the road and Carolina, Atlanta and Dallas at home. I'm not sure all of those teams are better than us but a lot of them can run the ball and that seems to be a problem for us. I figure the secondary will improve - Gladney looked good at moments - but the line might be unfixable. Maybe 5 wins is more realistic.
