    My definition of a perfect offseason would be for Buck, Maeda, Alcala, Larnach, Kirilloff, Mahle, Polanco, Arraez, Gray, Jeffers and Lopez to all report healthy to spring training. Sign Rodan, Correa, Vazquez and Judge. Hey, before you criticize me, you asked what my perfect off season would be.

    1) Sign Rodon and put Maeda in the bullpen. 2) Put Julian or Martin or Larnach or Kirilloff in the OF. 3)Trade Kep and Pagan for flame throwing prospects. Let Ober start. Sign Navarez or Vazquez to catch with Jeffers as backup. I would really like to have Correa, and would encourage the Twins to sign him for the next 8 years for whatever the cost may be. It's not my money.

    In many articles, catcher is ranked as the most important defensive position. Many articles say SS is the most important defensive position. Most agree that it is one or the other. Let me ask two questions: 1) who are the Twins catchers for 2023? 2) who are the Twins shortstops for 2023? Hmmmmmmmmm. We may be in for a long year in 2023. I wish the Twins would stop this nonsense which we fans endure every off season, and just sign a smart, great fielding catcher long term and a great SS long term.

    I may be the only one, but frankly, I am encouraged about the catching prospects after reading Cody's fine article. Especially Andrew Becktold, who has some power in his bat. But I really want to know about the throwing power and accuracy and footwork and blocking skills and framing and pitch selection and prior leg injuries and past concussions and intelligence and leadership skills of these prospects. I have asked several times in posts, who on the Twins calls the pitches, but so far, I have not received an answer from this august group of TD posters.

    In a post of mine within the last several weeks, I honestly suggested converting some player (who I do not know) to catcher. A smart, strong athlete ought to be able to convert.

    If catchers are so important, and I agree that they are, then what are the best ways to measure value of a catcher? Strong arm, few passed balls ? These two measurements are very dependent on the pitchers throwing quickly to home with a runner on 1B and on pitchrs not bouncing balls in the dirt and not crossing up the signs. Is pitch selection still done by the Twinkies' catchers? If not, who selects the pitches? If so, how do we measure success? Then there is the intangible "management of the pitchers". How do we measure that? Pitch framing? Important now, but not so much when the balls and strikes are called by machines. Durability? How do we define and measure success in catchers? It is not so much by the batting statistics, but by what other factors?

    Ted, I feel fielding and throwing and framing and managing pitchers are skills that are at least equally , if not more important qualities in catchers than the batting statistics. How do the three above mentioned catchers do with the other requirements of a good major league catcher?

    Get he highest ranking catcher which the Twins can get. Twins need catchers.
