Tinney's home run today was the hardest hit ball in the Twins organization this year. 115 mph. Oh my gosh. I apologize for questioning his being the second pick by the Twins in this year's draft. I was wrong. Get him a big first baseman's mitt and start the shift to 1B for him immediately. Lackey and Tait can handle the Twins' catching in the future., beginning in 2028.

Ricky Castro pitched another good 3 innings for the Saints. No runs, no walks, 1 hit, 3 strikeouts, 37n pitches and 27 strikes...a 73% strike to ball rate. Will we see him on the Twins in 2026? I hope so.

Trading a year plus 2 months of Larnach , our leadoff hitter against righties ,during a stretch run ,and postseason run, for two months of a n up and down rental reliever does not seem like a good trade by the Twins to me. I understand that there are 3 other outfielders in the Twins system who can play better defense than Larnach in leftfield for the Twins right now, however I question who the leadoff batter would be for the Twins, who is second in the American League in runs scored so far this season...and how effective any of those three would be batting ieadoff or otherwise, instead of Larnach. The offense is not broken. Don't mess it up. Leftfield is not a critical fielding position. Keep Larnach unless a better offer is received.

This situation does nothing to change the decision to keep Jeffers for me. Granted the Twins may get a better deal by trading Jeffers, than by keeping him and getting a QO draft pick. But this misses the whole point of keeping Jeffers. This season is not over. Today the Twins are tied for the 3rd wild card. The division championship is well within reach. The Fat Lady has not sung. The Twins will need Jeffers' right handed ,middle of the order bat even more, now that Buck is questionable. The Twins will need Jeffers leadership and even temperament even more during high pressure games. Without Buck, Jeffers is the heart and soul of the Twins position players and also a respected leader and pitch caller among the pitching staff. The future is now. Trading Jeffers now would have a devastating effect on this team. Don't do it. This team has earned the right to keep its leader.

Keep calm and carry on. This is a team of never say die players. The bullpen is looking really good now and Keaschall is hitting really well. He should be moved up in the batting order now. The switch hitters will be batting righty against lefthanded pitchers. Keep calm and carry on. The best is yet to come.

There is also this: Playing competitive baseball until the trade deadline and then acquiring top quality relievers , whose contacts expire at the end of the season, allows the Twins to have a much stronger team for September and the pennant race and for the playoffs at 31.5 % of the total seasonal contract of the acquired relievers. If the Twins can find relievers who are available, but who over performed their contract value, then the 31.5 percentage is even more of a good deal. Might be on to something here.

Alvarez, who is a DH and therefore has no defensive value, has an affordable contract through 2028. That would be 2.3 years of Alverez for 6 rookie and early years of Jenkins, who can play a key defensive position in CF, as Buck slows down and moves to LF. I don't think I would take 2.3 years of Alverez for 6 years of Jenkins.

You are correct Mike. I tend to forget that. Baseball is a long journey.

Lackey threw out 1 baserunner at third base, but three other baserunners stole a base while he was catching and he made an error with a throw to first base. Don't know if those stolen bases were the fault of the pitchers or the catcher or were just really speedy runners. But this is something to keep an eye on.

One of the changes I have observed is that if a player isn't producing, he gets released or sent down. much more quickly under Shelton and Zoll. Lewis, Wallner, Arcia, Raya, Fedko, Outman and a host of relievers. If a player can't field his position, he is moved to another position. Lee, Lewis, Keaschall, Bell and the next man steps up.

Really good solid trade which sends a positive message to the players and staff. A real confidence boost for all of them and for all of us lowly peons.

When Clemens walked up for his 9th inning at bat, I looked up the odds of Clemens hitting a home run and got a less then 1/2 of a percent. Lefty on lefty. Down no balls and two strikes. Two outs. I have never seen a walk-off grand slam with those odds . We just witnessed something we will never see again.

Outstanding article Gregg. Thanks for writing about an important issue from the perspective of Derek Falvey. I believe that when the dust has settled in a year or two,, that Falvey will get well deserved credit for building the majority of a very good farm system and some young pitchers with major league talent. Most will not succeed in the big leagues, but I predict enough are succeeding or will succeed to out weigh the "hindsight mistakes."

Because Houston will be playing SS and Culpepper will be moved to 2B. I contend that Houston is a better fielder at SS than anyone in the Twins organization right now.
