  1. That's the perfect definition of what the Twins pursue!
  2. I think what we are seeing is a result of a conflict between the FO and the players. Molitor is in the tough position of having to keep the peace while keeping the players focused on the field. Remember when they sold at the deadline last year? The players rallied and Dozier took it personally. They were a group that was out to prove the FO wrong. I think there is a residual effect from that. I don't think the players like or trust the front office and I think we are seeing the lack of fire and commitment on the field this year.
  3. To me, Cave seems like a better option than Grossman. He can run faster, play all 3 outfield positions, and seems to take quality at bats.
  4. Sigh...I didn't watch the last 3 games. I'm glad I didn't based on the frustration I'm sensing. I'm sensing that the team is now lifeless in all aspects. I don't know if they have had a team meeting, but I think one is needed. They are professionals and they need to give their best effort every time out there. Being on a MLB field is a privilege. Respect the game and work your hardest. That's all I've got.
  5. I'm torn. I like how Gibson has pitched lately. He seems to have found his confidence and his approach is much better. However, he's 30 and history is not on his side. Selling now, if the return is right, seems like the prudent thing to do. I know people keep talking about Buxton and Sano back next year...Polanco for a full year...there is no guarantee that any of these guys will be able to play in the bigs next year. At this point, they are all just prospects with promise.
  6. So many questions....and sooooo many answers! There's no shortage of guys that could/should be DFA'd, but it won't be Morrison. At this point, Morrison is the only replacement for Mauer at 1B this year and beyond, so that won't happen. I do chuckle a bit when I see people excited for Polanco to be brought up...don't discount the PED effect on previous stats. At this point, if the Twins are looking forward to next year and beyond, I don't see Grossman in the plan...but then, I didn't see him in the plan this year either. Certainly bring Polanco up and see what he's got, but I'm tempering my expectations.
  7. I read the other day what the AL Central was against the rest of the AL...are you ready for this? 67-122. Let that sink in for a bit. Now consider that the Twins are 9 games back of the division leader who are 13-20 against the rest of the AL East/West. That should put into perspective just how bad this team really is. We are 9 games back in an really really bad division.
  8. Great intro! I felt as if I were on the ride with you.
  9. The experience begins....and continues....and continues....and ends.
  10. Well, I'm baffled at what happened out there, but that pretty much sums up the season so far. I get why Molly got tossed. The question that he should have to the commish is what rules are being upheld and which ones aren't? That would be nice to know since the Twins missed that memo. The next question is what did Glynn do to get tossed? Perhaps the third base ump felt as if he wasn't being included in the game and needed to get some recognition. Dunno, but that was a first. No calls made all night except to toss the third base coach. Sigh...I'm calling the season boys (and girls). This season is officially over with tonight's loss. Not because we are 9 back or whatever. Rather, because of how we've gotten here. It's been a series of bad luck, bad baseball, and bad attitude. Good grief! Good luck! and Good night.
  11. We kind of go out of our way on this board of avoiding political talk. Please respect that.
  12. Cave is the replacement for Grossman. He can play all 3 outfield positions addequately. Grossman can not. Regarding Sano, when the coach stops yelling at you, that's when you are in trouble. It means he's given up on you. The fact that we sent Sano down to A ball should be a very loud scream to him, but it means we haven't given up on him. He will come back stronger or he will not be back. No point in trading him, the return would not outweigh the potential.
  13. Anyone else notice the blond behind home plate? I'd throw one to the backstop for the sake of my catcher.
  14. A lot of people are asking why A ball? If you watched the Detroit series where did every pitch against Sano get thrown? Outside corner or beyond. What did Sano try to do with those pitches? With the exception of swatting one into right field, he tried to pull them out of the park...and I'm not talking a little bit. He was opening up his front shoulder and pulling his head. He had no chance of hitting the ball. What would you do if you were coaching a little leaguer who was doing that? You should break down his swing and get him back on track. Sano won't hit AAA pitching doing what he's doing. He will struggle at every level if he keeps doing what he's doing and sending him down to A ball should make that crystal clear.
  15. I was encouraged by Sano taking an outside pitch to right field against Detroit. I thought it was evidence that he was getting back on track, keeping his front shoulder closed and his nose on the ball....and then I watched his next two at bats and he looked like a 10 year old kid trying to hit the ball a mile. His front shoulder was opened up all the way to third base and his chin was pointing towards the shortstop. There was no chance of hitting the ball anywhere meaningful. So, something had to be done. I thought maybe some work in the cage with a focus on hitting to the opposite field. Maybe putting his shirt in his mouth to keep his head still...and then it occurred to me that he is a big league hitter who should know better than to do the things that he is doing and to correct them on his own. This is evidence that he doesn't and he's not. Get back to hitting the ball and stop trying to kill the ball. To me, it's that simple.
  16. Sano and Cave optioned. That's sending a message. I'd rather see Lamarre optioned as I think Cave is hitting the ball hard and hustling, but Sano needs to get his head on straight.
  17. Soooo....we couldn't hit in Detroit and now we go to Cleveland. Has a team ever been shut out 3 straight games? Perhaps no-hit 3 straight games?
  18. Grossman flashed his arm in right field last night, so we put him in left field today. Robbie Grossman is a nice guy. Last year, he had a great on base percentage and contributed with quality at bats. Last year is not this year and his defense is still a liability to the team. Offensively, he's been offensive. Granted we've seen plenty of offensive offense this year, but we've seen his upside. His best gets him into the batting order. What he's doing now doesn't and we've got him there two games in a row. We are not a good team if Robbie Grossman is our answer.
  19. I get it where guys are going to beat up Reed...but tonight, I thought he pitched well and had horrible luck and whoever that guy that squibbed one down the first base line was got an extra strike. The first pitch to him was at the knees and down the middle of the plate. I could argue that it should have been hit a long way and instead it gets called a ball. Another 0-2 count and he throws one 3 inches off the plate that the guy slaps the opposite way. I felt bad for him tonight. He could not catch a break.
  20. I continue to be baffled by the lack of defensive replacements and moves in general. When Detroit brought in a right handed reliever, we left Lamarre in...why no Cave, why no Kepler? Scuffling? Isn't that what Lamarre is doing? When you have a reliever that has pitched in over half your games, it's just nuts. At some point, as a manager, you need to trust some guys....and not the same guys over and over and over until their arms fall off.
  21. That throw was gross...man.
  22. There is no way that Pressly survives the entire year without going to the DL.
  23. I understand the reasons to trade him...in a month. However, we are 6 games back from an unimpressive division leader and we aren't even half way thru the season. A season that has seen injuries, lousy luck, and underperforming stars (including Dozier). The odds are better that this team will start performing up to its capabilities (including Dozier) than the odds of getting anything of value for him. I just think all of this trade talk is throwing in the towel on a season that is very salvageable...but I'm a glass is half full kind of guy...today.
