  1. Hasn't Buxton been working on his bunting? I would consider batting him behind Dozier in the 2 spot due to the amount of pressure that puts on a defense. As far as not batting Dozier at leadoff because of the home runs, he also gets better pitches to start off a game because no pitcher wants to walk the first guy. I'd have him lead off. I like Kepler splitting up Sano and Park. You could also split them up by batting Sano 3rd, Mauer 4th, Park 5th, and then follow him up with Kepler. So, here's my twisted lineup (not saying good, but something else to consider): Dozier Buxton Sano Mauer Park Kepler Polanco Rosario Castro
  2. I agree, but who gets bumped off the 40 man to make room for Park? DanSan? Adrianza? Tonkin? I think DanSan is to the point of where he either makes the trip north or is gone. Adrianza is out of options. Tonkin shouldn't be on the roster anymore IMO, but replacing a pitcher with a DH on the 40 man probably isn't a popular proposal.
  3. Tonkin should clear waivers, but if he doesn't no sweat off my baseballs.
  4. Unless Hughes absolutely stinks in ST, he will be in the starting rotation.
  5. Pitchers do get hurt...sometimes in spring training. We may not even have 6 guys to throw to start the year. Not trying to be negative, it's just reality.
  6. I will be the contrarian and say no and here is my reasoning. Last year he had a .240 BA, .269 OPS, and a .606 OPS...AND that was a big improvement over the previous year. I just don't see teams willing to spend a roster spot for that. He has some speed, but not the kind that raises eyebrows and with that bad OPS, speed does no good walking back to the dugout anyway. I think every team has a DanSan lurking the minors somewhere.
  7. I think you missed one more thing. The Twins don't really have a clubhouse leader - that Michael Cuddyer/Tori Hunter kind of player that keeps it loose in the dugout but at the same time plays with intensity. That is needed for a team to be successful. Without that, you lose 100+games. Unless Castro is that guy, we still don't really have a clubhouse leader.
  8. I think we need more bullpen depth...well, we need a lot of things...but bullpen depth would be a priority. I think this is the year that we really need to see what some of the young guys can do in the rotation. It could be a revolving door this year (even more than other years). I see Kintzler as this years Jepsen. When I watch him close a game, I hold my breath. He's not overpowering and throws a lot of ground balls with a less than stellar defense behind him. Seems like a formula for failure. So, improve what you can, and the bullpen seems like an easier target than some of the other weaknesses.
  9. I think what they are being offered now, they can get at the trade deadline. So, why not get another half year out of Dozier?
  10. Predicting baseball is pretty tough to do. That's why hope springs eternal in March. Sometimes, a dribbler, a dink, and a dying quail are the difference between a loss and a win while a rocket up the middle turns into a double play and a loss. Sure, the laws of averages should catch up with a team, but they don't always. The reality is that the Twins will need some breaks, some luck, some guys to over perform just to play meaningful games in September.
  11. I like Park (when healthy) over Vargas because he did play a pretty good first base. However, unless I am misremembering (had to haul out the Clemens quote), Park didn't hit lefties worth a hoot. So, maybe Vargas DH's against lefties, Park against righties, and they both do some subbing for Joe at 1B? I realize that I just chewed up 3 roster spots for 3 part time players who play 1 position in the field which isn't ideal, but it also gives us a bopper bat off the bench.
  12. It's happening all over in America. It is age discrimination, but the corporate attorneys have it figured out exactly how many of each sex, age, race that they can lay off without getting into trouble. If they lay off 1 younger person for every 3 older people, 1 man for every 3 women or vice versa, etc.. It stinks, but that's the country we live in. My day of being ushered out the door is soon approaching. Oh, and if you have 25+ years in with the same company, it is no longer a good thing. It puts a target on your back.
  13. I did that once, but I overstepped my bounds as someone else had already spoken for the game thread for that day. I am more of a spur of the moment kind of writer. I'm unable to consistently awaken the creative side of my brain like RB can do at any time.
  14. Very sorry to hear that Jerr. Unfortunately, it is the route that corporate America is taking. They get rid of the the experience and bring in the low cost outsource from some 3rd world country...then they wonder why quality is so low....frustrating. I feel your pain. However, here on TwinsDaily, the season NEVER ends! There is no low cost alternative because we are the low cost alternative! And we offer quality! Whooooo! We are the answer to all of America's problems. We should collectively run for president. Hey, speaking of president, did anyone see that Dave St. Pete called our team sh*tty? I mean, yeah, we are...but isn't he part of the sh*tty? Is that the very definition of the pot calling the kettle sh*tty?
  15. The lack of a FA market drags down Dozier's value too. How do you trade for a quality starting pitcher with so few on the market? It's not like another team can just plug someone else in. Pitching is gold and teams want to hang on to it.
  16. A nobrainer for any organization with the #1 pick...now which pitcher is where it can get tough.
  17. Full disclosure, I've never been an big Tonkin fan. Until today, I didn't look at the numbers. What I do look at is his pitches and here's what I see. 1. A fastball that he throws hard with no movement. I suspect that he gets it by AAA guys, but big league hitters have seen 96 mph plenty of times. 2. A pretty good curve ball that he just doesn't throw consistently for strikes. 3. A change up that isn't effective. I suspect that hitters have gotten the word to sit on the fast ball and when they do, they hit it hard.
  18. Yeah, but I'm guessing between the league office and the players union, there are restrictions on things like how quickly they can be brought back up to the majors after being optioned down to the minors.
  19. It's a creative way to expand the roster, but I'm guessing if there isn't something to prevent it in place already, there would be in a hurry.
  20. Who needs starting pitching? Let's be creative here. We go with a 13 man rotation. Everyone throws one inning a day. That's right. You throw one inning just like a little league rec team looking for anyone that can throw it across the plate. If you fail miserably, you get the next day off or get shipped down to the minors and we bring up the next in line. You gotta ask yourself - what would Billy Beane do?
  21. No you're not...and neither am I.
  22. Wish for a win streak when you blow out the candles!
