    I mean as a CF, so that when Buxton is ready he can play the OF if needed, or be traded. He has zero value as a SS. Actually, if he had zero value at SS, that would be a massive improvement.

    He should not be at SS......the defense isn't going to get better. Move him to CF full time, and see what happens.

    I didn't toss out any stats, and I don't think he'd be "meh" as a starter. That should be obvious since I said a 2/3. I do agree, tossing out stats from bad performances, is usually a bad idea. Tossing out outliers is not. Showing progress over time is not.

    the point isn't "is he a better RP or SP".....the point is a number 2 or 3 starter is MUCH MORE valuable than a RP. Some of us think he's a legit MLB starting pitcher, and would rather have 200 innings of that, than 60 innings of RP from him.

    How good has the bullpen been lately? Not so good, right? I guess I don't worry about anything sports' related anymore, but it seems reasonable, as a fan, to wonder what they are planning at this point.

    You don't think that's the plan this year? What do you think it is? Because it doesn't appear to be to sign really good RP in FA either.

    If the plan was to use internal candidates.....where were those guys in September of this year? Or do they magically become good over the winter?

    I agree, but it would be a big change from their MO. I called for him to come up and pitch out of the bullpen last year. Really, he should have been a lefty out of the bullpen last year, but for some reason, did not.

    I don't know the answer....but if that third year wasn't there? 100% yes. But I see NO WAY SD does this.

    I predict Rogers wastes away in AAA, when was the last time they converted a starter into a RP (w/o first trying them as a starter in the majors)?

    I've often wondered how much is on the scouts vs the coaches in the minors (it being mostly on the player, obviously). This affirms one of my suspicions, not sure it is conclusive, but it wouldn't surprise me.

    The problem isn't the money, it is the roster spot and settling for "meh" IMO. I just don't see him as elite in any way.

    Not a big Fien fan, but I think tendering him makes sense. I am ambivalent on Nunez. Other than that, the rest should be tendered.

    I too am surprised, but I think Claeys showed us he is not as conservative as his former boss.

    thoughts on the coaching change? I admit to being surprised. Horrible season......how many games did they win in the big random number?

    I'm not saying never, no, I would never say that...... Sure, there would be times I would leave a starter out there, (many, many factors would go into the decision), but the penalty exists, and it is real.

    An individual performance will stick in your mind.....but OVER A SEASON, the math is very clear that most managers wait too long to pull the starter. There is a huge penalty for going into inning 7 and beyond in terms of effectiveness. That's actually interesting, because you don't get the chance to do that if you aren't pitching well in innings 1-5......which means it's not about your stuff that day, but about other things.

    that wasn't the choice, though.....the choice was protecting guys that had zero chance to be on the roster, or a LH that (other teams) could move to the BP.
