  1. Certainly reasonable options. Given position scarcity, they'll cost around 15-20MM per year....ready to pay that?
  2. Btw, Lewis won't be in Minnesota until 2021... He's in low A ball. By that time, most of this core is one year from free agency, give or take. I don't think it's the same window ...
  3. If trading two great prospects makes the farm barren, then this team has no pipeline. No one is saying they are one player away either, so let's not put words in people's mouths. There is room to trade for this guy, and buy some free agents. For those that say no to a catcher.... Where do you propose spending assets to get better? Not the outfield.... Probably not first, or third, depending on how you feel about Sano. Short and second and DH? Name the guys you like more than the best catcher in the game. Not a good player, an elite player. The guys that are available and they will have a shot at. Maybe you think Ramos is a better answer. Of course, they'll have to win the bidding there too. That's possible, but he's not a difference maker. Oh, and when not catching, Realmuto could DH....
  4. Seems like trading for this guy might be a good idea, but I haven't given it much thought....
  5. Joe Mauer is either a HoF or very close....but he's not going to help this team win ball games next year. IMO. If you sort on offense and first baseman....it's not pretty on the leaderboards for this team. Also odd: Astudillio (sp?) has not caught one time. The reports from the internet say he has an average glove back there. Given the state of catching in this org, I don't understand why he hasn't caught. Heck, he's barely played the last few days, despite, so far, showing he might be a hitter. Maybe he can play first next year, while we wait for Rooker or give Sano more time at 3rd? I expect Lynn to be traded, and maybe Escobar and Rodney. That's about it, I'd guess.
  6. Raising the question....what is the plan? I think it is showing Lynn and Odo for trade..... As for "working on things", he can do that in the majors....though maybe psychologically that is hard.
  7. They barely made the playoffs last year... With ESan and Dozier and Mauer playing very well....I think we'll just disagree on this.
  8. It's a minor move if he doesn't block Wade.... Another LH? Don't got it at all
  9. What if the guys before them are great? I mean, that's basically your argument to some extent.... At this point, they are all major question marks, and pretty much rated the same. It hurts this team a lot how bad, so far, these two high picks have been. If Gordon washes out, that's potentially a very bad streak of number one picks.
  10. Glad they are giving Cave a shot as some here wanted. Now let's hope they give us Garver people, who are really mostly people that think he can maybe be decent someday, what we want too. And wow, Baltimore is bad.
  11. there is an extra not in there.....which should be a "more"....sigh. I think he accepts the QO, and I'd hate to pay him 17MM next year.
  12. I don't agree with all of this, but it is very well written! And I understand the feelings well.
  13. Correct. I have no interest in him accepting, and I think he does not likely than not.
  14. I have zero interest in taking the chance he accepts the QO....zero.
  15. Not straight up, but you can sort of do this, like the Twins just did with Hughes. They sold him and a draft pick for money, basically......The Marlins (depending on how you feel about the prospects they got back) did that with Stanton also. So, you could trade existing contracts and minor league players, for minor league players. That essentially frees up money to be spent (or pocketed). That said, the league will likely nix deals that go too far that way.
  16. No. they won't even call some of them up to replace Belisle....how good can they be? Every year people worry about the 40 man, and every year they don't lose anyone that really matters .... Granite is expendable, if you trust Cave and Wade at all. That's an easy one. But me? I promote Rooker to AAA now, and don't worry about the majors until he shows he can do AAA
  17. the Brewers, the Cubs, the Angels (not likely now), Seattle (not sure they have the players), Atlanta, Philly.....so, ya, the list of playoff teams that could use him is long, actually. And, that doesn't count anyone that thinks they are a playoff team next year. How do people propose getting better if they won't trade guys under control next year? And by better, I mean MUCH better, over the long haul.
  18. This greatly undervalues Gibson. He's healthy, and made an adjustment that worked last year. He would net at least one top 75 player and a high variance flyer. That first player would be in the Twins top three prospects. It also over values Dozier. They couldn't get that for him when he was good, and had years of control left. They'll be lucky to get one guy in their top ten, as many here and nationally predicted would happen when they didn't trade him before. Rightly or wrongly. I also think Lynn would net a top 200 player, around tenth in the Twins'list.
  19. You think they planned on punting nearly all of Sano and Buxton time? No way. If so, you trade them for insane returns last year. If they were aiming for 2020, they are really doing it wrong.
  20. No real surprise, they had to get the big number firmed up first.
