  1. That's a terrible trade. If they eat a ton of money, they need one good prospect back. And they don't need more forty man issues.
  2. It isn't like the Red Sox don't have one of the highest payrolls in the game, and kept other players not named Betts......I'd say the Twins did with Berrios what the Sox did with Betts. We'll see if they do what Boston did with others with Buxton, or trade him or just lose him in FA.
  3. What about the other teams in the playoffs? How good were the Giants before this year with their strategy? They had career years up and down the lineup, kind of like MN in 2019....... I think a lot is glossed over here.....Boston has a massive payroll, the idea they've not spent money "you don't need a big off season" is kind of odd in what you are implying. Before anyone says "copy the Rays"....no team has been able to copy the Rays in years now. It just isn't that easy.
  4. If it is about money and risk, it doesn't matter if he's a free agent or on the roster. And, he's already turned down over fifteen million a year for seven years, reportedly.
  5. He is very highly thought of in prospect circles.......ceiling? a 4 WAR season or two, I'd guess. Not what I expect, I think he's probably a 2-2.5 war player, as his defense appears limited. That is a good player.....we should be happy with 2.5 WAR, imo.
  6. Not worth what? By that logic, don't sign Buxton, right? His status as a Twins makes no difference in terms of money/payroll.
  7. Truth, mostly. There is no guarantee a great player will be there at the exact moment they "put you over the top". Or that you'll be able to sign them. The Twins would 100% be better (unless injury happened, which, anyone can get hurt) if they signed one of these guys. (note: I'm not discussing these particular players and % of revenue on a player, just that the argument here seems to be never sign a FA, or don't sign one until they are the last piece.....both of which I disagree with)
  8. Those saying he's wrong.....show your work, please. It's one thing to criticize his work, it's another to show he's wrong. There is clearly a correlation here. Whether he's right about it being important (not essential, not necessary, important) or not can be argued, but it would be great if those arguing against him held themselves to the same level of work they want out of him.
  9. Ya, I don't get the Jax love on this site. I mean, emotionally, I get it. But factually? Not at all. Could he move to the pen and be good? Sure. But it doesn't seem likely to me. As for the rest? I'd think Martin starting in LF out of spring training and being a great hitter/fielder is much more plausible than any of the other things on this list. Much.
  10. Basically, don't sign big time Free Agents? Because every one of them has a flaw?
  11. What do you base this belief on? Donaldson signing here? Pineda? Happ? Shoemaker? Colome? Others? We literally have no idea. I'm not making anyone the bad guy. I endorse players finally getting to choose where, and for whom, they work. Others are making the front office bad guys.....I think this is just big business and how capitalism works.
  12. You know for a fact he didn't say he wanted to test free agency, or even leave? Or, maybe they decided multiple years of what they got was more valuable? That's fairly likely why they did it. This year was lost. So, what is worth more, one year of Berrios next year, or six of the guys they got? As for spending, these last two years they've spent the most they ever have. They signed Donaldson to a huge deal. I'm just not sure we agree on your facts being facts and not opinions.
  13. They aren't making major roster decisions only for opening day, imo.
  14. It's almost like the previous two sessions didn't happen the way some people talk.
  15. All fair. As for Kepler,I think fans greatly underestimate how hard it is to direct a batted ball.....
  16. I doubt he let it slide. I'm just not sure what he could have done to help him be better.
  17. I don't trade Garver unless I'm punting next year, of someone gives me an insane deal. You win by having players be A LOT better than other team's players (position by position)....and Garver is one of the best hitting catchers/1B/DHs in the game. I'm ok with dealing any of the others you mention, because I believe in the next wave of corner fielders. (not counting Buxton, who you didn't really mention).
  18. It is very competitive. It isn't great, but it would have them in the conversation in July to be over .500.
  19. The Padres collapse was about injuries and WTF? Not bad decisions. Also, playing in the hardest division in baseball. But mostly WTF? I'm not arguing the Twins blow things up, but they can't also be afraid to trade some prospects sometimes. Also, pretty sure you think they should sign one FA starting pitcher this year. So, I'm not really sure what you arguing, other than the extremes. Which most fans aren't asking for, imo.
  20. How do you think Baldelli ruined Simmons? What do you think he did that it is his fault? I'm just curious, because I'd guess this is 100% on the player.....I'm not arguing they played poorly on D (though, given Larnach, Rooker, Astudillo, Sano and Simmons, not sure what we'd expect).....I'm asking why you think Simmons' play is on the manager.
  21. Not sure why we only look at BA these days.....he was top 15 in home runs among all catchers. .198 is not good, but the league isn't what it used to be for BA. He was rookie eligible, and was 34th among all catchers in fWAR. NOT GREAT, but not nearly as bad as people make him out to be. He's no Garver, though, and there is no way I trade Garver unless I'm blowing up the team.
  22. People really underestimate Jeffers when compared to other catchers..... especially offensively. Ober is the clear winner. Then Ryan, Jeffers, and the rest. I'm happy for Gordon, and see him as a good utility player, who will hit better next year.
  23. Larnach, Jeffers, Rortvedt, Lewis, Martin, Miranda, kiriloff...... How many top hitting prospects or rookies do people think teams have? That ignores any breakout.
