    Whether you think Gordon should have dove for that ball, or should have played it on a hop (would have been tough if you ask me), I think there needs to be someone in the dugout with some situational sense who can see how the game is playing out, how the at bat is playing out, and adjust the outfielders accordingly. Someone like Gladden who would see what’s happening, whistle out to Gordon and wave him a few steps over. imagine if Gordon was playing closer to the line and had made a diving catch to save the game! i bring this up because that play was the talk of pregame today so I imagine Gladden was all over it during the game last night as it was happening.

    Gray did not struggle in the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th. Walks are going to happen, I'm not always bothered by those like some people, and I'm not bothered by giving up some runs to the Dodgers. When I skipped out after the fourth I thought Gray still had a lot of gas in the tank. I'm not buying the premise in the article that Gray ran out of steam and I'm definitely not buying how the Twins managed the starter and bullpen last night.

    I thought Gray’s first four innings were fine — he actually did have good his stuff. The big caveat is I was not available to see the fifth inning. Just because Gray gave up a couple hard hits in the fifth doesn’t tell me he needed to be pulled there. I’d be curious to hear from some careful observers about whether they felt Gray really needed to be pulled there. He had only thrown a dozen pitches in the inning and only 80 for the game.

    This play had the feel of the old NFL catch rule: where replay reviewers had this mistaken belief that they needed to slow the video way down to make sure both palms and all ten fingers were in firm grasp of the ball on every frame of the tape, that no blades of grass were disturbed by a brush with the football, etc. Thankfully the NFL recognized that their rule had gone too far. Maybe MLB will discuss internally but won't help the Twins this time.

    I have to disagree and agree, first, that Sanchez was ever much in foul territory. So following the lead of @chpettit19 with the screen shot, I will add these. 1. Here is Sanchez's initial set up: Kudos to Gordon for covering third base. Also, I love Gio's gesture here. We're not cuttin' this one! 2. Then, here is the point in time where Sanchez is most in the baseline, preparing to catch the throw but if you slow it down, he's kind of rocking back and forth, probably just natural motion, but notice his right foot: Sanchez doesn't have the ball yet and Merrifield is not at the plate. 3. Then a moment later, here is Sanchez providing a lane; his left leg is in the air, and is by no means planted in front of home plate denying an avenue (the spirit of the rule). Notice the right foot again back well into fair territory: And the call on the field: Out, and not even a demonstrative call. So while yes it was a close play, it wasn't that close, if that makes sense. Not very logical but it makes sense in my head, anyway. Sanchez did it probably just the way you coach it? not sure What's really unfortunate is that there is a video angle from the third base dugout camera that looks like Sanchez is blocking the plate old school style and falling all over the runner in a big cloud of dust. I'm sure that angle had to have had an effect on the overturn. Despite the crow hops and clutches, I also thought Beckham made a pretty awesome throw, as good as a throw you could hope for, in my opinion. But mostly I just disagreed that Sanchez did anything wrong and I decided I wanted to do a bunch of screenshots.

    And what’s with trading for Michael Fulmer? Aren’t the Twins and Tigers in the same division? I fully expect Sawyer Gipson-Long to be closing games and knocking the Twins out of contention for Detroit in 2025

    Honestly I wanted to see another Jake Odorizzi -for - Jermaine Palacios trade happen. It was there for the taking!

    Whether they are trading for a good starter with a year and a half team control, or trading away a good starter with a year and a half team control, the Twins are usually doing the smart thing either way.

    Agreed. At least one reliever is needed, but I am starting to lean towards acquiring a starter here and hoping this new starter just has a good second half. Imagine going into a postseason series with Gray/Ryan/ and ??? again. And some people might think “how dare you” when I say this, but I wonder if Miranda is playing the best he can possibly play right at this moment. So that might be your best trade chip.

    Should the Twins trade Brian Dozier, Eduardo Escobar, or Ryan Pressly. Should the Twins trade Nick Gordon and Stephen Gonsalves for Gerrit Cole. Should the Twins trade Alex Kirilloff and Trevor Larnach for Noah Syndergaard. Should the Twins trade Jose Berrios for Austin Martin and Simeon Woods-Richardson. Should the Twins trade Taylor Rogers for Chris Paddack and Emil Pagan. The soothseers commenting in this thread seem to say, "No" to a Correa trade (and I agree, however ask me again on Sept. 9 when my hindsight kicks in)

    Thanks for posting! This is one of those enduring questions, with random sampling playing a role and variables that can be argued for either side. For example, when a starting pitcher is physically fit and is “making his pitches” that day, so to speak, and is already a high quality starting pitcher to begin with, I think the third and fourth time through the order can actually favor the pitcher. The pitcher has that data on what the batter is doing and swinging at, on that particular day. what do you think?

    Luis Arraez is very deserving, as is Buxton, and maybe a better success story than Buxton. Signed internationally for a modest bonus, an ACL injury wiped out his age 20 season while in high A, and give this front office credit for something, they shot him up through the system and he was in the majors in 2019.     I’d argue Gladden belongs, despite his numbers he was truly a catalyst. I would also argue for Gaetti, even though his last season was 90 and actually split away from the other hellraisers before that. 87 just doesn’t happen without Gaetti. Or Gagne, for that matter. So now you have core five, which does not rhyme, undermining the entire premise (also Bernie Williams wtf)
