  1. Are we really carrying 13 pitchers? I guess I thought people were just joking and jesting the last few days... I thought we signed starting pitching so we wouldn't have to do that anymore? Carrying 13 pitchers when you desire to pinch run for your best hitters at the earliest opportunity is roster mismanagement at its finest so I'll take the under
  2. My 2 cent guesses: Bartlett announces retirement within a month. Just kidding. Anyone but not Tonkin! Arcia gets his full time job back. I'd like to see a Willingham/Kubel platoon in LF. But given that the Twins would rather grant tenure to an old guy than offer a scholarship to a young guy, I think Willingham will be in the lineup more than that, and it will cost a guy like Pinto/Arcia some PAs. Remember Willingham said he wanted to finish his career here (get in line, buddy ). You are correct sir. I was a Florimon supporter this past off season. I think he makes great plays and provides continuity, if only he could hit a little he would do himself huge favors. But if/when the bats cool off or the team goes off the rails, I will be ready to try someone at SS who can hit. Nunez.
  3. Punto was disqualified for playing full time in 2006, but there are other Ex Twins who finished high on the list -- in fact one of them is the declared winner. Before reading the article can you guess who?
  4. We already know Fuld can hit for power at Target Field..
  5. On the other hand, Gardy might have used a guy for the ninth AND a guy for the eighth, and this is why he feels he needs to carry 13 relievers. I thought 8 IN was just right.
  6. As you are an original member here at TD and I am still a relative newbie, I really have no right to keep teasing you like this
  7. There's not a bad seat in the house, my friend. Beers are 8+ a pop, I think. However there a ton of good places to hang out just outside the park to eat drink and be merry, before and after the game. Why not come for two games, and just plan on doing a lot of walking around (if you are able) for one of the games, just to soak it in. Heck, come for the whole three game series. If you do, don't forget your brooms
  8. He's just too wild to use in high leverage situations, which leaves him as a mop up guy. I can't really fault Gardy though for bringing him in the 11th to pitch for as many innings as he could get. We went into spring training with SP depth, 4 veterans locked in and 4 other guys competing for the fifth spot, and were told the depth was good, that through performance or injury it would work itself out. Well this is the painful phase we are now going through. If I were manager/ GM/ pitching coach I'd already be going through Deduno's past pitching lines and trying to line up a favorable start for him later in April.
  9. I agree Sandbun. I just wonder if it's Gardy's style to let go of it voluntarily though.
  10. Agree, there is about a 0% chance, give or take 0%. I wonder if you are even asking the right question. If we lose 90+ games again this year, he might be asked on bended knee to part with a coach or two, though.
  11. I was wrong about Kubel. He hasn't done anything boneheaded in the field. Maybe he can help us win a few games with his bat before the All Star Break. But lately he has a trend of going in the tank later in the season, so I would like to see a younger guy get those starts eventually.
  12. And Sam Fuld practices his home run swing on the on deck circle...
  13. To what Chief and Leviathan just said. As a Mauer guy, I will say it is a little disappointing, with the game on the line, to watch him take a base on balls and pass it off to the next guy.
  14. Everyone who skipped out of the office for this game, can maybe return to the office unfortunately
  15. I come down on your side. He's obviously the face of the franchise but I think the Mauer-hate phenomenon is whipped up by the media. Barriero was talking about it again yesterday and it's easy to nod your head when someone on the radio says "a $20 million guy is not being paid to hit singles" and that's a little bit true but Mauer is not a "singles hitter" he's got some batting titles under his belt. Also he was a great backstop, too, just a cut below the Molina/Pudge types but far ahead of the average catcher. What he doesn't have under his belt is something edgy about him. He doesn't have a profanity-laced tirade to his teammates after a Game 1 loss. There's no video of him owning a gatorade cooler after whiffing on an important at bat. The worst thing about him is he's as exciting as a glass of milk. So I think the media likes to stake out contrary positions and get him going just for the sake of doing it.
  16. I used to think this too until a couple years ago when the purge began (Nathan, Cuddyer, etc) so now Joe's the only one left. I think he'd be vilified pretty much for the rest of his life if he requested a trade now. And ironically, just to speculate, if Joe had seen the writing on the wall and signed with another team after 2010, whose fault would it have been? Why, Bill Smith's, of course
  17. Please continue to post and ask questions! We only ask (well, I am asking) that you occasionally trade with us some of your football knowledge.
  18. My recollection, as reliable as those things can be at ten years' distance, was that Lecroy was never more than anything but an oversized novelty who couldn't outrun the umpire to first, while there was still hope for Ortiz, who was coming off a good season and entering his prime but still not developing into the slugger as quickly as he might have been. I was not around for all of those seasons so somebody can correct me. Morneau was becoming major league ready, so we felt we could part with Ortiz. Yet somehow Lecroy was untouchable. Was there a conference in the clubhouse about whether to keep Lecroy and let Ortiz go? Apparently so. I like Ryan and would like him to quit falling on his sword for this organization and for someone else to step up and raise their hand.
  19. Take a deep breath, drock Mauer will get it figured out soon enough.
  20. It's hard to say. They might try to sell off some contracts like they did last summer with Morneau, which would put Willingham in play, though other clubhouse favorites like Kubel aren't really making much to begin with. Stay tuned.
  21. Did they really boo Kubel in the intros? no booing today - it's the home opener!!!
  22. Bartlett said he hurt his ankle sliding into home, not out in the field. Did you see the slide?
  23. I hadn't heard a single statement from anyone that Bartlett has been injured.
  24. Don't think I ever heard of this -wow. Like a Lost Honeymooner episode. Well worth the 25 minutes if you have the time. Thanks!
