  1. This is why we also need a Mound Rushmore.. mine would have Kaat, Viola, Radke, Nathan. No substitutions, sorry Johan, sorry Aggie.
  2. Here is my Mount Leathermore: Greg Gagne, Torii Hunter, Dougie Mientkiewicz, and... wait for it.. little Nickie P..
  3. We've seen two of these in two weeks.. hard to figure.. but this patience at the plate looks like part of the plan, and not really a fluke. I'm tempted to say the Twins should be 10-13 instead of 12-11 but like you, I'll take it
  4. The Twins aren't the only surprise team to play to .500 if you count the White Sox, Mets, Marlins, Padres, etc. Most of our guys who had torrid starts are now cooling off a little, as you mentioned. Let's hope it's not a three week fluke. I predict a change of shortstop soon. I can't figure out the bad starting pitching but we can hope it will improve with the warm weather (except that the ball travels farther when it's warmer and Gibson's best game was on a 40 degree day).
  5. Well be prepared for at least a night game.. it's an NL team coming so they'll try to find any two hour window to complete a 5-inning game in (3 hours if it's Pelfrey).. and if there's a rainout priority for rescheduling it will go to Thursday evening I would guess.
  6. I will give you Nishi, Ron Davis, and Tommy Herr (I call him "Tommy" because he and I go way back), but yes please save a place for a 1978 outfielder
  7. Hard to take Carew down, but if we are giving priority to guys who devoted their whole careers here (or 99.9% of their career), then Tony O would come first. Also on the other thread we discussed TK. I think TK deserves to be up there with Harmon and Puck (and Mauer eventually) for all the things he's done for this organization both before and after he was manager.
  8. For those of you getting caught up by looking at this thread... Bottom of fifth, two runs in, bases loaded, nobody out. Zero hits.
  9. Also in the Sabermetrics bible I think I saw this passage: "And that Thou shalt not run Thyself out of innings, and that He who steals shall steal no longer, but depend upon the labors of the next batter…"
  10. Kids were discouraged from throwing sidearm or three quarters, as that was bad for your arm. Had to be overhead. It was established fact that curveballs were bad for your arm. Four out of five doctors recommended Lucky Strikes at one point, too. I don't know what's being taught today as far as pitching mechanics but I'd love to find out if anything is. Hopefully the kids just throw however it feels natural and do it in moderation.
  11. Honestly, it's completely out of the hands of anyone to make any changes to the ballot after the season starts? Gimme an effin' break, MLB executives! But, don't the coaches select the bench players? There might be that going for Colabello.
  12. I've carried the ball (so to speak) for Florimon since he first appeared. He was one of Ryan's first acquisitions when Ryan unretired and inherited Nishioka as the starting shortstop. But I heard that Florimon missed some balls in the Tampa series. Unacceptable for a major leaguer to misplay a ground ball in a dome. Maybe after effects from his appendicitis were affecting him. He has always passed "the eye test" by me but the fact is he has missed some plays and he has no margin for error. We will soon reach the point where he will have to bat league average .260-.275 for the remainder of the season, just to get back to last year's .221. Come on Pedro, show us something, and fast!
  13. Their ads are getting good again too
  14. Ideally.. Willingham? Similar to what happened after Bartlett got healthy? We'll see.
  15. Yep. Why waste time trying to turn Hicks -- or any young guy -- into a good ballplayer, when you can pick up a guy in his 30s who is already a known quantity? Gripe #1 as we advance into the second decade of the Gardenhire administration. On a serious note, I think Fuld is a good pick up and having both Hicks and Fuld competing could be a good thing.
  16. We've seen this movie before with Go Go and others. Talented young player, can't get him with the program, ship him off for peanuts, player thrives elsewhere. Hicks is 24. We have been patient with Plouffe, who is 27. True, Hicks has looked bored but so has most of the rest of the team until now. BTW in my opinion Plouffe almost always looks bored. Ideally the Twins enter 2015 or 2016 with an outfield of Buxton, Arcia, Hicks.
  17. I thought I saw a shot of his mom at the end of the game too-- so wondering if she stuck around to see the game winning single. Can we fly her around for good luck??
  18. I will kick Mauer off for the moment and replace him with Tony O, then reassess later. As far as Carew, he has the baseball skills but priority for me goes to the lifers who gave their careers to this organization. As far as which pitcher, that's a tougher call.
  19. Is the game over yet? Do I need to order another round?
  20. Greenland is like the fourth biggest country in the world, right behind Alaska
  21. I kind of like this title set to Floyd's Shine On Crazy Diamond instead, the syllables fit perfectly
  22. Every team has their ghosts, not just the Twins, no doubt.
  23. Just for the record, Gardy far out managed Madden in this one
  24. Never seen a first baseman standing with his left foot in foul territory -- now that what you call guarding the line
