  1. Pseudo, I think you are really over-sentimentalizing this. Substitute "familial" and "kinship" for "country club" and you are getting much closer to a better characterization for many of us. A former player who is still active who speaks well of a former team is not noteworthy. Also, I think it's early to describe the current clubhouse culture as resulting in a "payoff of more wins" if I read that correctly.
  2. I think you and dwintheiser are overstating the nostalgia element of the Molitor / Winfield / Steinbach signings. Those guys were still ball players. I don't recall any of the three being teammates like Kubel, Bartlett, Guerrier this year, not to mention the apparently aggressive attempts to sign Pierzynski and Garza, two guys who went elsewhere but can actually still play. The late 90s was a different situation. Low stadium revenues but more of a willingness in those final years for developing young talent because that's the right thing to do. The 1999-2001 teams finally matured. Ryan was GM. What's happening 2012-2014 teams feels completely different to me.
  3. There are 2 kinds of moderators: Ones who are... wait, do you really want me to keep going?
  4. 2-1 over Verlander and the Tigers --- I feel like we're starting to play real baseball games again!
  5. Another thing to say, to the guy with no shoes?
  6. Has Santana hit anything other than a scalding line drive since he's been up?
  7. I always wanted to see Cuddy do that..
  8. Pssst.. Lets all agree that the past few days never happened
  9. Derp* forgot about Willingham when I typed my comment. I will be lobbying for a Kubel/Willingham platoon when he returns so in my little thought world Willingham is not a key contributor anyway.
  10. This is not directed to anyone specific, but back to Ashbury's point (somewhere in the threads): the 40 man roster is plenty big enough to deal with injury contingencies. "Injuries" is not some exotic thing that suddenly started happening to the Twins and Twins only. In fact, the Twins are probably among the healthiest teams in the league. Their starting lineup has remained intact all year. Only the 7-8 holes (center field & Arcia) have really been affected and none of their key pitchers yet. It would really be questionable to pin this roster mismanagement on injuries.
  11. As of tonight Kubel is hitting .268 with 1 homer and on pace to strike out 200 times.
  12. I agree with just about every word. Welcome to the conversation - looks like you've been a member since 2012 but finally now moved to speak.
  13. The radio guys just said Mauer has done some workouts. General soreness is the reason he is out of the lineup today.
  14. Yes. Not fair to Twins fans, and just as importantly, not fair to Escobar.
  15. Its the a's and z's in the name. your welcome.
  16. There are some eye opening similarities between Torii Hunter and Chris Parmelee in their minor league and early pro development. One big difference being that Torii was playing full time by now, same position, day in day out.
  17. I've never, ever caught TK on his good days, whether Twins broadcasts, his old radio shows, whatever. Apparently when he's on, he's on. But more often than not he's the bored grumbler stating the obvious. I did catch the TK ceremony in 2012 though and it was pretty darn good and a great show of taste for him to invite his entire neighborhood with him (and for the Twins to let him).
  18. What does the common wisdom say for the peak hitting age for baseball players? 27-32? 25-29? How many outfielders on the Twins 40-man roster fall within those age ranges?
  19. Wow Kirby, old data presented in a new way can be quite a wake up.
  20. Glad to see I am on the same page as you Nick.
  21. For a brief moment in time, Herrmann made sense. But that moment has passed. Also, quit carrying 12, 13, 14, 15 pitchers, or whatever they are at now. Ryan hired a bunch of vet starting pitchers to pitch deeper into games right? With a 11 or 12 man staff Herrmann is a 25th man who plays once or twice a week as a late inning guy instead of starting every night.
  22. Apparently not a single Viking fan commented on this paragraph tonight..
