  1. I love the move! I call it, Managing by Not Managing..
  2. Why don't you just splash cold water on my face while you're at it I realize Suzuki was brought in for his defense or handling pitchers and that he won't hit .310/.374/.434 over 500 plate appearances. But it's hard to deny his contribution so far.
  3. Absolutely let it play out but 1) Suzuki has 7 MLB seasons behind him, Colabello not so much, and 2) who would be our second catcher if we moved Suzuki.
  4. What to do with Suzuki? At some point I would extend him a year. This is different than the Doumit situation. About an hour after you published this, Suzuki made what I believe was the play of the season-- after hitting a ball over the fence in left field, the ball bounced back into left field, but he continued to run anyway, as if the ball was in play. Even after he knew it was a home run and was rounding third for home plate, he continued to run hard. He even drew the fielders back into the play and they threw the ball home, even though they knew it was a homer too. Suzuki slid into home plate and popped up from his slide laughing about how he just ran hard around the bases on a home run. I think that play showed people something. Hustle, love for playing the game, all that stuff, not to mention a clutch hit in the late innings. At the risk of sounding over serious about it, I think Suzuki is the guy we've been looking for for quite a while. Hitting, catching the veteran pitchers, and giving us that intangible presence we've been searching for since the playoff years.
  5. I'm getting through this season by the game threads and the 12 ounce curls..
  6. So you're hoping it doesn't go extra?
  7. yeah seems a little unnecessary
  8. Yeah, can't say Burton didn't get the memo this time
  9. let me know how that fits on ya
  10. I really wish MLB would use more analysis like this and bring slow motion replay back to their videos.
  11. Good starting pitching has a way of turning the other team's clubhouse into a library
  12. I also think Perkins has the inside track. Gardenhire was named a bench coach and he and Perk seem pretty tight, so if Gardy has any sway it might be Perkins (provided he maintains the numbers). OTOH adding a former Yankee might be a fun bit of schadenfreude for a Boston manager. On the third hand, if Dozier continues hitting (say he somehow reaches 20/20 at the break) it will be tough to leave him off. And obviously I am just guessing about all of this
  13. I've sat with tech guys who sit at double-barrel 27 inch HD monitors as they have worked on designing a website for a three inch smartphone… (not saying that's you, or that that's even bad, just a little ironic, probably no way around it)... Anyway, I love the TD desktop site and would be grateful if the desktop site remains an option for the mobile.
  14. Another question is, would he be considered a good hitting pitcher?
  15. The 91 team was a validation of the 87 team so for me, 91 was more satisfying. And they were just a better team. Geez I've become an old-timer
  16. If that team made the postseason, you could add '77 Reggie to the October postseason roster.
  17. Hey, the more optimists on this site, the better... I've always thought the Twins could play to within spittin' distance of .500 this year, simply because of Ryan's free agent pitcher signings and the natural development of the young guys. But I think Division or Wild Card is too much to expect.
  18. Since the other guys supposedly aren't ready, I don't have a problem with Herrmann so long as he primarily sits and Gardy doesn't feel he needs to be worked into every game somehow, just because.
  19. touche -- though I'm a bit skeptical you'd be skeptical of everything
  20. So I'm listening to the television broadcast (Dick&Bert) and they are talking about the upcoming roster move to be made following today's game. (Dick suggested it might be Chris Herrmann.) In the top of the 8th, Dick said something to the effect: "Twins are carrying 13 pitchers, but teams across the league are struggling with pitching and carrying 13 pitchers, unless you are Oakland or Detroit. So it's not just the Twins." And then Bert threw in the obligatory "no pitch counts in my day" observation. So anyway, I actually went to mlb.com and checked the 25 man rosters in the American league as of today (I didn't check the NL) for how many pitchers teams are carrying. Here is the list of teams besides the Twins carrying 13 pitchers: - New York, - Cleveland. Two other teams. The Rays, who have actually played the season without 3 of their 5 starting pitchers this season, are still carrying 12 pitchers. http://rays.mlb.com/team/roster_active.jsp?c_id=tb Not trying to start a "rip management" thread, just trying to point out how, in my belief, narratives and wishes have genuinely trumped reality inside this organization. Lots of folks on these threads (including me) have become instinctively skeptical of most things this organization says and does, and I guess I'm just pointing out one more reason here for why that is so.
  21. Plouffe and Mauer and their 1.000+ OPS vs Felix!
  22. Both sides make good points. How would a Dozier extension affect the Meyer/Sano/Buxton beast, if at all?
  23. If Colabello had had the benefit of a MLB-affiliated minor league development track instead of 7 years in independents, he might have become a very good MLB hitter.
