Welcome to the dark side, jjswol...... We can debate early injuries and Bartlett's retirement and such, but a narrow question for you, stringer bell, or whoever else comes along and cares to answer-- do you feel Gardy's outfield options were limited yesterday with Santana and Nunez in the outfield and Hicks and Kubel on the bench.
Wow - good enough for me. Wild but dominant in HS (sort of dominant). Joe Nathan was converted from position player to pitcher in the minor leagues but I'm wondering if that wasn't right away in A ball or even rookie ball -early early in his career.
Broadly speaking, Suzuki has been doing well. It's defensible to let him keep catching. Specifically, I'm not sure how Kubel ever DH's ahead of Pinto or others anymore, regardless of the "handedness" of the opposing pitcher, especially in hindsight as it resulted in another 0-fer today. Kubel really needs to regain his stroke sometime before yesterday.
I think Hicks is pretty good in center. Not the greatest, but can do the job. Hicks will probably need more game-situation batting practice than he's likely prepared to handle and sure, maybe it would be better if he could get that in AAA. But that's not really an option at the moment? Again: besides Fuld and Hicks, is there anyone else who can play center?
Thanks for the info -- it's good to get these reports from the postgames, as I don't usually catch them but just a few sound bites later on. Also good to finally see guys like Reusse and Bremer starting to ask out loud what some of us have been asking for quite a while.
Hicks is probably an average center fielder at best (winging it, no stats to back it up) but he has a nice arm, some speed, can field his position. Yet none of our other outfielders are anywhere near Hicks's ability. Yet Hicks rode pine today. Future outfield… I will take a crack at tomorrow's. I would guess it will include Willingham, Hicks, Arcia (regardless of "handedness" of pitcher) but with that dirty dog Gardenhire you never know what you're going to see out there. Might cost us a ballgame but at least it will entertain and this is the entertainment biz after all
Final Score: 8-1. Two infielders played in the outfield today, which led directly to the first two runs being scored in the 1st inning and to several other cringeworthy fly ball outs and ugly plays later in the game. Meanwhile Hicks and Kubel sat on the bench. Genuinely trying to figure out why this was tolerated. Help!
Karnak: six inches, a couple feet, six inches. Ed: six inches, a couple feet, and six inches.. .. .. Johnny sneers, audience laughs, Johnny opens envelope Karnak (reads envelope): by how much did Mauer miss the ball on his three strikeouts today
