  1. But how much does he really say about Tampa? What does he say about the Twins and the front office here, and do you agree or disagree with that, and why?
  2. I would start the 2022 season with a bullpen of Rogers, Duran, and Alcalá, and go from there. And I guess Dobnak as a long man or mop up guy, since they saw enough in him to sign him long term. That would fill four spots, and leaves four (give or take) spots still open. We can build cases for individual guys like Thielbar or Farrell or Duffey or whoever, like I did with my first four, but once you start doing that, you start falling in love again and it’s hard to stop, and then you might as well bring back the entire 2021 bullpen, right? I mean, Colomé has pitched better of late, as well.
  3. Yup, Frankie Sweet Music Viola is not a data lover. However, I don’t see anything in that Tweet to disagree with. On another note, I was glad to hear Barreiro rake this organization this week over their hubris about pitching. I really hope the Twins bring in outside expertise this offseason and resist the urge to trade Buxton for pitching.
  4. Yes. I thought if the Twins would decide to trade either Buxton and/or Berrios, and basically give up on 2022, then I thought they might as well trade anyone else of value and aim for 2024 or 2025. Edit: but if they would have decided to keep Buxton and Berrios then no they should go ahead and retool for 2022 with Maeda and Berrios.
  5. I hope the best for Maeda and sending good thoughts for a full recovery. Another horrific decision by the front office not to trade him.
  6. Frankly, I think Toronto did him no favors by promoting him up to AA this season. We talk all the time on this site about 2020 being a lost year for pitcher development but with Wood Richardson that lost year can be seen as a good sign? I wonder if another quick stop in High A would have been better for him. And I have concerns that he’s been passed around a couple organizations already. You don’t see the Walker Buehler types being traded back and forth (or maybe you do and I have missed them). Could be something; could be nothing. Thanks—maybe we can pick this up later.
  7. It was only a guess. It’s hard to imagine he needs very much building back up from a baseline; that assumes he wasn’t throwing much at all during his Olympics trip, which wouldn’t make sense to me.
  8. Maybe I will be wrong, but I have no problem saying Joe Ryan will be a better MLB pitcher. That’s why I would rank Ryan higher. Woods Richardson would be more in the 10-20 range for me. Is age and level the best thing in his favor?
  9. My guess is he is having trouble finding the strike zone in his bullpen sessions, and there is this new roster status that they can use to keep from making a roster move yet. But that's just a guess. It's anybody's guess why he is ranked higher than Ryan.
  10. You entered into a dialog/agreement with the other poster. I wanted to be sure you knew. No hard feelings to either of you.
  11. According to Baseball Reference, Brandon Kintzler was acquired by the previous front office. December 14, 2015: Signed as a Free Agent with the Minnesota Twins. July 31, 2017: Traded by the Minnesota Twins to the Washington Nationals for Tyler Watson (minors) and international bonus slot money. @chpettit19 @prouster
  12. Given that Donaldson only remained healthy for two batters into the 2021 season, I might take that bet..
  13. Probably, yeah. But the Twins still made the post-season with him at short the full season.
  14. I wanted them to trade Gordon back when he had some good value, but now that we’re here, I think he can be a good piece who comes off the bench to pinch run or play in the field in addition to the occasional starting lineup when the pitching matchup might work. I really think a full season of being a full time starter would be too much to ask. And lots of people are suspicious of his glove at short, actually. But then again, next year would be the time to try playing him a full year and if he doesn’t work out, not much lost.
  15. Good post, Doc. I read it as some criticisms you wanted to share, without making it too personal. Yeah, for the front office, the levels will only get harder the further they progress
  16. I think they have made up their mind, but I'm on board with this. This is a fair ask. If I recall, we had the same conversation about Polanco at short a few years ago (2017 or 2019 season? cant remember) and Polanco did well enough for that one season.
  17. Good post. That is a really interesting but depressing observation.
  18. After the 2019 postseason debacle, part of my evaluation process for Twins pitchers is “Would I be confident with this player appearing in the postseason in the Bronx?” Going into 2021, the answer for me was: Berrios, Rogers, maybe Pineda and maybe Maeda. cross one more off that list.
  19. Donaldson should have asked the umpires to check Cole for Spider Tack!
  20. I kind of wanted to see Gil myself. Never seen him yet, not even a video clip. As it turns out, the Yankees will play Atlanta on Monday, where Huascar Ynoa might be lined up for the start. Gil versus Ynoa. That would give Pohlad and St. Peter a game to watch together up in their suite on the Twins offday. it even looks like its the free game of the day on MLB, so they wouldn’t have to spend any money on a subscription.
  21. For the record I’m a huge Albers fan and loved his debut starts in 2013. I love pitching an love to watch guys who know how to pitch. Albers would be the perfect guy to pitch at AAA full time but who could also make the occasional fill-in start when the MLB team needs it. I hope he likes it here and sticks around.
