  1. Every game he didn't place a bet, he was signaling to the bookies that he thought his team would lose. I don't think he threw any games, but he certainly didn't have the same incentive to win that game. If he knows he's going to place a bet tomorrow, he's going to manage the team differently today when there isn't any money at stake. There are so many reasons not to honor Pete Rose with a spot in the Hall of Fame. Off the field, he's a pathological liar, a convicted felon, and a statutory rapist. On the field he corked his bat and probably used steroids. Oh, and he bet on baseball games as a player and as a manager.
  2. Why do I feel like Pete Rose is going to get inducted and Barry Bonds will still be on the outside looking in? Oh wait, I know why I feel like that. Nevermind.
  3. McCusker is better in the outfield. Bader and Buxton are both hurt. I have no expectations that McCusker will automatically do in the majors what he is doing in AAA. That would make him Teoscar Hernandez.
  4. McCusker is ahead of the pace Severino set in 2023. Severino 2023 SLG .546, ISO SLG 274, 1 XBH every 9.6 PA, 1 HR every 15 PA McCusker 2025 SLG .648, ISO SLG 312, 1 XBH every 7.4 PA, 1 HR every 14 PA McCusker is on a 40 HR / 40 2B pace.
  5. It's too bad he can't play catcher just a little bit better.
  6. Severino has never hit for power like McCusker is doing this season. McCusker will frustrate lots here with a ton of strikeouts but he'll hit the ball very, very hard when he makes contact. If France is out they'll need another bat. If Bader is out they need an outfielder.
  7. Just another Pete Rose lie. Notebook obtained by Outside the Lines shows Pete Rose bet on baseball as player in 1986 - ESPN
  8. Suppose his batting average drops 100 points going to the major leagues. That's still a .244/.307/.564 batting line. This is a guy with an ISO SLG of 200 last season and 320 this season. If he hits .230 with a .480 SLG, he'll make an impact.
  9. The rules changed in 1927 to make betting on baseball a lifetime ban. That's 8 years after the 1919 Black Sox scandal. In 1918 the league acquitted Hal Chase for throwing games despite a mountain of evidence and let him continue his career. In contrast, Pete Rose saw a sign posting the lifetime ban every time he entered a baseball clubhouse.
  10. Coulombe is a great contrast to all the flame throwers the Twins have in the bullpen. He probably makes the next reliever to pitch in the game that much more effective.
  11. Unlikely to happen. It doesn't appear that the pitchers at AAA have the ability to challenge him to force those adjustments.
  12. They're the same team as last year - streaky as hell with huge swings in results.
  13. I reject the premise that the lineup will ever be at "full strength". Someone is always injured.
  14. I have Keaschall as the Bader replacement. They do need a 1B and a C next season. They've done fine signing an old 1B from free agency to fill in. Catcher is always scarce, and free agents are almost always at the tail end of their career. I hope they trade for a catcher. Honestly, they could use a catcher THIS year to replace Vazquez.
  15. I hope Keaschall is the RH hitting OF they keep trying to find (replacing Bader). Lee is fine at 2B.
