  1. "Starting pitchers should always go 6+ innings and 100+ pitches" is just a different kind of managing by the spreadsheet instead of paying attention to what is happening in the game.
  2. People are super upset that Rocco mismanaged his bullpen so badly that they gave up 1 run in 4 innings.
  3. I'm not really happy when I watch DaShawn Keirsey struggle to get the ball out of the infield. He has failed to meet my pessimistic expectations. I don't know why anyone would lobby to get him more at-bats. Kody Clemens is not good, but he's been twice as good as Keirsey.
  4. That's what happens when your batters don't have any power. Bottom 5 in HR.
  5. Looking over the prospect list, I was surprised to see Yunior Severino. He's a minor league free agent who came back to the Twins after being released. He currently has a lousy .633 OPS at AAA. That's basically the definition of a non-prospect. I looked over the MLB list to see if someone had been overlooked by the group here. There are many names I'd choose over Severino (Ricardo Olivar, Eduardo Beltre, Dameury Pena, Payton Eeles, Khadim Diaw, Dylan Questad, Adrian Bohorquez) but nobody super exciting. The only conclusion I can draw is the Twins don't really have 20 good prospects in the minors. Hopefully the deadline trades re-stock the farm with talent this summer.
  6. Here's the order I would demote players 1) Gasper - does a few things okay but nothing particularly well. Has options. I expect he will go down for Royce Lewis. 2) Clemens - not elite at anything but okay at everything. Expect him DFA for Castro since he won't get any playing time with Castro on the roster. Opens up a 40-man roster spot for McCusker if he is DFA. 3) Keirsey - possible he gets optioned instead of Clemens DFA when Castro returns if they want to continue to hoard depth players. Has a role as a defensive replacement and pinch runner but shouldn't be stretched beyond that role. Plus, Castro can fill that OF defense role. Could last until Wallner returns. Would already be gone if Austin Martin was healthy. 4) Julien - Lost the starting 2B job to Brooks Lee but not a bad bench player. Better option at DH than Gasper. 5) Bride - Keep. Looks like an adequate bench bat. Does everything we hoped Miranda could do. Platoons with Julien. A bench of Castro, Julien and Bride is pretty good. I think they need McCusker's bat more than Keirsey's glove if Castro and Lee are both on the roster.
  7. They're still in the "showcase the veterans for trades" part of the season.
  8. The internet doesn't work for sarcasm. Too many idiots who say something stupid and are completely serious about it.
  9. I'm pretty sure no coach or scout in the history of baseball has told a pitcher to throw a fastball middle-middle.
  10. Twins Hitters OPS+ (min 50 plate appearances) Wallner 138 Lee 119 France 110 Jeffers 108 Buxton 108 Bader 104
  11. He's averaged 10 steals a year throughout his career. He has 3 more years on the contract. He's having a career year for SB this season. I'd say it's equally likely as not (even odds) that he catches Hunter.
  12. It's a 68 win pace with almost 20% of the season in the books. I hope they don't wait until the deadline to make some moves. I think Rocco needs 12 wins in May to keep his job. The only thing interesting on the farm in the near-term is starting pitching (Festa, Matthews, Morris). I doubt they move enough starters to get all 3 of them into the MLB rotation.
  13. Worth noting that Rickey had 300 steals by age 23. We will never see another like him.
  14. I didn't realize Stewart was so bad at holding runners. He doesn't have a slide-step. Those steals aren't on Jeffers, they're on the pitcher.
  15. Twins Stolen Base Leaders Chuck Knoblauch: 276 Rod Carew: 271 Cesar Tovar: 186 Kirby Puckett: 134 Torii Hunter: 126 Dan Gladden: 116 Cristian Guzman: 102 Byron Buxton 100 Matt Lawton: 96 Larry Hisle: 92 Nick Punto: 89 Buxton could catch Puckett on the list but Tovar is unlikely.
  16. "he joined Torii Hunter and Kirby Puckett as the only Twins to have 100 stolen bases" Not quite. Carew has over 200 steals. I think it's the 100 HR / 100 SB club.
  17. Julien is seeing 4.2 pitches per plate appearance. League average is 3.9 p/PA
  18. Bride can be an emergency catcher. They don't need two emergency catchers.
  19. The Twins need to pump-and-dump Paddack. Better to pull him early than let him blow up in the 6th inning and destroy any potential trade value.
