Larnach has probably maxed out his talent, he's about to get more expensive and his team control is declining. He's probably at peak trade value right now. The problem with trading Larnach is I'm pretty certain they will also trade Bader and Castro. Losing 3 outfielders will make them very thin. If Buxton goes down, we could be watching the AAA outfield of Martin, Keirsey and McCusker. It is interesting that Kody Clemens doesn't get a mention here as a lefthanded bat. He and Larnach are basically the same age and have the same OPS+ for the Twins this season. Clemens is a better fielder.

The season is half over on Friday (81 games played). They're guaranteed to be below .500 for the first half.

He's also cheap and under team control for another 5 seasons. He's exactly the kind of player the Twins should be looking to add. Some people can't handle the aesthetics of HR/K players. They'd much rather see singles and grounders to short.

That's not what they did with Lee and Keaschall.

Dealing Correa gives them some room financially, but the rest only save about $15M the rest of the season. Most of that is Vazquez and they'll have to eat his contract if they want to trade him.

Sabato and Holland are still down in the pecking order. This is who I see getting the playing time if they move players: Bader -> Martin Castro -> Keaschall France -> Gasper Coulombe-> Funderburk Vazquez -> Camargo Paddack -> Matthews That doesn't even figure in a possible return of Julien or Miranda. There's also the players they receive from the trades to consider. I doubt they will prioritize getting A-ball prospects in return.

The Twins Keep Trusting the Opener, But Should They?
DJL44 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
So, if a starting pitcher gives up a run in the first inning, he's a failure? How about if Coulombe gives up one run but Festa would have given up more than one run in the same situation. Does that mean Coulombe is a failure for performing better than Festa? If a reliever's worst case expectation is he occasionally gives up a single run in an inning, then he's a damned good reliever, not a failure.- 20 replies

Teams that are below .500 at the deadline (and the Twins are 3 games under at the moment) typically sell veterans for prospects. That should be expected. I don't expect them to blow up the whole roster. The "fire everyone, trade all the players" crowd is just angry yargle-bargle. If they said "I'm angry and it's affecting my ability to think" it would be more accurate.

The Yankees are looking for a 3B...
-
I agree, though it wouldn't matter for 2025 since they would be waving the white flag. Brooks Lee could help them limp through the rest of the season. If they want to compete next season, they would need to acquire a SS. Culpepper is the next potential SS and I don't expect to see him as a regular until 2027. I also think Carlos Correa will be a lesser defender in 2027 compared to his abilities now.

What contender is looking to add Carlos Correa for the stretch run? Maybe the Yankees would want him at 3B so they could move Chisholm to 2B. That's about the only fit I can find.

I'm going to reject the premise that a relief pitcher "fails" any time they give up a single run in an inning. That's a ridiculously high standard that nobody meets.- 20 replies

I think we will see up to 8 players traded: Castro, Paddack, France, Bader, Vazquez and Coulombe are all pending free agents. Topa and Stewart are old, injury prone relief pitchers who are currently healthy and effective. The front office should already be getting calls on each of them. I doubt they sell more than that unless someone blows them away with a deal too good to turn down.

The starters are trained differently. It's like training for a 100 yard dash vs training for a 5k. Starters are given 4 days off between to recover. They can't have their relief pitchers down for 4 days recovering between outings.
