  1. I think the Twins still believe in Royce Lewis as the starter for several years but probably want to get him some time in AAA next season since he's coming back from a lost season. There is a cheap, glove-first SS option who will be available as a free agent. Freddy Galvis has been as productive as Simmons with a much smaller paycheck.
  2. Sometimes, but not often, you win when you buy a lottery ticket. The Yankees won on this scratcher.
  3. If you cherry pick your first baseman's best 75 game stretch and he still only has an 800 OPS while playing awful defense he's probably not that great.
  4. Luke Farrell is underrated. I'll bet most people couldn't tell you he is on the roster but he's been effective in the bullpen which is more than you can say about most of their relievers. Just a few days ago I was pretty sure he would get released but now I think they might keep him around for another season.
  5. I think Josh Donaldson is underrated. He gets endless grief from fans because he makes money but he's one of the few players earning his paycheck this season.
  6. The same thing works in the major leagues, in fact with revenue sharing that guarantees a profitable team. Keep the payroll low and cash those checks from the Dodgers and Yankees. Judging by how much fans love Randy Dobnak and Willians Astudillo I think most Minnesota fans would rather watch a team full of outcasts and weirdos lose than see good players win. I hear from people all the time how they'd rather take their family to a Saints game than a Twins game. Cheap beer, stupid games and pigs would draw more fans. The State Fair draws 100,000 people on a weekday and they don't have any good baseball to watch.
  7. I guess if your plan for 2022 is to finish ahead of the Royals.
  8. Let Mike Veeck run the team. He'd be able to keep the crowd happy and the turnstiles spinning even if the team stinks. Nothing attracts a crowd like a crowd.
  9. Pineda is one of the pitchers the Twins must replace with a better option if they want to contend. Does anyone want to see Pineda starting a playoff game?
  10. He's using an unusual fastball delivery to get good results. Eventually big league hitters will adjust and he'll need to use his secondary pitches.
  11. The "he hasn't made an error at SS" argument is pretty ridiculous. He's been a below average fielder at 2B and 3B. What about that makes you think he'd be a good option at SS? Nick Gordon is one of the players they need to replace if they want to contend.
  12. What else are they going to spend money on? Starting pitching is their biggest need. They're probably not going to sign a shortstop to a big contract with Royce Lewis in the minors. The rest of the lineup is average or better at their position. The pitching staff has one pitcher with a WAR above 0.8 - Bailey Ober. They need as many as 10 pitchers on the 40 man roster to be replaced with better talent to contend. Of course they need to obtain some of that pitching through free agency.
  13. Injured or consistently terrible (or both) is representative of the 2021 Twins.
  14. I think you released this article about 6 months too early.
  15. If pitching as well as Berrios is so damned easy how come almost nobody else can do it? He's one of the top 30 pitchers in the league.
  16. None of them will be promoted in September. Some are out for the season with injury.
  17. I thought what was really desired was to get all your rookies promoted at roughly the same time so they can grow together (see 1982 Twins). They clearly aren't going to add anyone to the roster who isn't absolutely required to be added to the roster. As far as I know the only AAA prospects who absolutely have to be added to avoid being selected in Rule 5 are Jose Miranda, Joe Ryan and Jovani Moran. Right now I am betting they all finish out the AAA schedule but those are your only possible roster adds between now and November who are actual prospects. With the Maeda injury the front office might be ready to tear this team down and trade everyone with 2 or fewer years of team control (Donaldson, Sano, Garver, Taylor Rogers, Tyler Duffey and Buxton).
  18. Can't they bring Barnes back when rosters expand on 9/1?
  19. The front office is clearly avoiding adding any player who may have a future with the team. Are they tanking? Playing service time games? Worried about negotiations in the upcoming CBA? Did someone lose a double-dog dare? We'll see Randy Dobnak return but I'm starting to think our "callups" on September 1 will be Charlie Barnes and Kyle Barraclough.
  20. Agreed, they need to bring in as many pitchers in that price range as possible.
  21. It's 18 games. He was completely overmatched in the big leagues.
