  1. The Twins ended up in last place because they only had one good pitcher and they traded him at the deadline.
  2. If Rooker was not already on the 40 man roster I doubt the Twins would acquire him from another team.
  3. There will be a lot of SS on the move this winter. Not just the free agents but also players who are displaced when their team signs one of the free agents. For example, I expect the Yankees to sign Correa and make Gio Urshela available in trade. He graded out as average in 200 innings at SS for the Yankees. I also expect the Phillies will essentially pay to get rid of Didi Gregorious. I don't think the right strategy is to target a particular free agent. Better to be opportunistic when a bargain presents itself.
  4. Pretty easy to look up. He's owed $15.3M over the next two seasons with a $2M buyout of an option. Like you said, he's become all or nothing at the plate (19 of his 70 hits in 2021 were HR). If the ball stops going over the fence he's unplayable. I'd trade Sano for DeJong but I doubt St. Louis would be interested.
  5. No, it's two full seasons until Garver qualifies for free agency
  6. I agree 100% with this. I don't even have any confidence in Ryan or Ober pitching a full, productive season. If they really want to contend next season they can't depend on the minor leaguers at all. None of the high level prospects pitched over 100 innings.
  7. One more name. A familiar one. Jake Odorizzi is pretty expensive for a 5th starter in Houston.
  8. I would look at highly compensated starting pitchers who underperformed in 2021: Yu Darvish, Blake Snell, Miles Mikolas, Garrett Richards. Then there are the players looking at large arbitration awards: Matt Boyd, Chris Bassitt, Sean Manea, Zach Eflin, Kyle Freeland, Jameson Taillon
  9. I think you can probably rule out anyone who would require draft pick compensation. The Twins have some high picks in what should be a loaded draft. That makes Gausman and Stroman more attractive. OTOH - Ray, Syndergaard, Kershaw, Rodon, Desclafini and Gray might be less attractive or off the market due to the QO. Greinke is unlikely. He's always had the Twins on his no-trade list.
  10. "Secretly delighting when fans start the wave and spill beer and nacho cheese on themselves" Oooh, I didn't know this was an option. Can I change my vote?
  11. Both Atlanta and San Diego would be interested in Garver. Seattle might also want him.
  12. I agree that the low arbitration number gives the Twins some leverage for negotiations but I think that base is going to have to be above $17M. Lorenzo Cain is getting $16M from the Brewers. We know part of how salary is negotiated is keeping score. Being 3rd behind Trout ($35M) and Springer ($25M) would probably be okay but Buxton knows he's better than Cain. 5 years $87M plus incentives should be the starting point for the Twins. That makes the extension worth 4 years and $80M.
  13. Hitting. Garver had the 3rd highest wOBA of all major league catchers behind Grandal and Posey. His glove is average, too. He's an All-Star catcher if he's healthy.
  14. These are the players who would still be underpaid at that cost.
  15. Why not add Yu Darvish to the list? I'm sure he's available by trade from San Diego as they try to reshape their roster to contend next season.
  16. So just sign 3 of the top 5 free agent pitchers?
  17. Kirilloff will be fine and I still think Larnach can turn into Geoff Jenkins. I expect both of them to start next season in AAA to get an extra year of club control and to make them earn a roster spot. I see Austin Martin claiming LF eventually because he's the better defender and he gets on base. That leaves RF for Larnach but that will mean trading Kepler to open up the spot. Is Celestino just a good 4th outfielder or can he be a starting CF? I'm not sure but he's a definite MLB talent. Can Royce Lewis play SS? They need to find that out with him in AAA to start next season. Nick Gordon can be the futility infielder until someone else beats him out. I doubt he's ever more than a bench player in the big leagues. He doesn't field well enough for SS and doesn't hit well enough to play anywhere else. Rooker is a tweener - not enough bat for DH, not enough glove to play the field. He's the kind of player who ends up playing in Japan. Remember Michael Restovich? Astudillo is just blocking Miranda. Sign him as a minor league free agent and send him to St. Paul. The Saints fans will love him. Smeltzer and Thorpe are both likely DFA. They're lefthanded so they will both get a few more chances but they'll both have to settle for minor league free agent contracts.
  18. Taylor Rogers and Tyler Duffey are prime trade bait. One year of team control remaining.
  19. They should use that slogan to sell season tickets. "Come watch us in 2022. We should be in the conversation in July to be over .500!" I wasn't kidding when I said they should just let Mike Veeck be the GM.
  20. 1 game over .500 is not competitive. There are no 3rd place AL Central pennants.
  21. Another AL Central title followed by a sweep in the playoffs? No thanks.
  22. I don't think competing in 2022 is an achievable goal
  23. I don't think Ober will ever be more than a 4th starter. Dobnak is a 6th or 7th starter on a good team. Do you really think another team is going to want Randy Dobnak's contract after the ineffective and injured season he had? If so, they can have him.
  24. I think the Marlins would be more interested in Jeffers than Garver. Atlanta and San Diego might have interest in Garver.
