  1. It has to spend either money or prospects (or both) to get more talent (starting pitching) that will help in 2024. They could spend at the trade deadline instead of the offseason but it will cost more at the deadline.
  2. Where are the 1st round picks from the 2024 and 2025 drafts? I hope they're in the top 5 or the Twins drafted poorly.
  3. No, the case for spending is this team has a real shot at winning the whole goddamned thing if they add just a little more talent.
  4. They aren't even doing anything with their local streaming rights, which should be equally valuable as their broadcast rights.
  5. Didn't he have to get a physical to get traded?
  6. I saw today on MLB Trade Rumors that one of the factors in the Athletics search for where to play in 2025-27 is their $70M TV deal which goes away if they leave the Bay Area. How did the A's negotiate a better TV deal than the Twins?
  7. I think being a good teammate is considered more important when you're looking for bench players. If you're a superstar and you go out every day and produce people will overlook a lot of bad behavior. It's clear that clubhouse chemistry is not valued particularly highly on the open market. If it was the Twins wouldn't be able to afford any of these guys.
  8. The description gives me Delmon Young flashbacks. If they can get him to be more selective they could have another Dan Ford. Looks like he has enough bat for CF and barely enough glove for LF.
  9. If they're using data to make the decision he is going to run out of innings before they are able to determine that answer. He needs to show he's clearly better than 13 pitchers on the 40-man roster, plus Festa, Ohl and the dozen relievers they have in AAA. That will need at least 50 innings in AA to get promoted and another 50 in AAA to get enough data to make the decision. Otherwise you're promoting based on potential and not results. They only get to add a couple extra arms. They don't get to bring up the whole 40 man roster anymore.
  10. I don't expect to see Raya pitch for the Twins this year. He doesn't need to be added to the roster until next fall after the season ends. They are likely to limit him to less than 120 innings after pitching 63 in 2023 and that means he'll be shut down in September.
  11. I am pretty sure nobody is going to offer individual games a-la-carte which is what many people would want. Any streaming package will include stuff you don't want to watch. My guess is you will have to buy this for $30-40/month, then buy your individual team's games on top of this for an additional $10-20/month. For $50/month you get what you want plus a lot of other sports. The alternative will be cable at $100/month.
  12. Looks like there may finally be a solution to our streaming woes ESPN, Fox, Warner Bros. to launch joint sports streaming platform (cnbc.com)
  13. The Dodgers report on 2/9, Padres on 2/11 and most other teams 2/14 or 2/15. That's when the 60 day IL opens.
  14. It might be as simple as ranking all the pitchers in organized baseball with a computer and claiming anyone who ranks higher than the 40th man on the roster. None of those guys should be buying a house in Hennepin County.
  15. Balazovic may still have enough perceived upside that they are able to get cash or a low-level prospect in return.
  16. I'd like to see them turn two of those seven guys into more near-term help. They're a contender right now.
  17. Looks like the Twins negotiated a $3M option for 2025.
  18. Should make him more likely to sign a long-term extension as well.
  19. Right now they are but the 60 day IL opens up very soon which should free up a number of roster spots.
  20. Ron Cey is another comp. 130 OPS+ and good defense during his prime. 6 time all-star.
  21. The 60 day IL opens up in a few days. If Staumont is still injured he could end up there.
  22. I don't think so but there is young talent - Varland, Festa, Woods Richardson and Canterino.
  23. Castro can handle CF/2B/3B better than Gordon can. I'm assuming they'll already use Castro most days.
  24. They spend money but mostly on the wrong things (Kris Bryant).
  25. Resting Kepler or Wallner for a day a week, pinch runner, defensive replacement.
