    Pittsburgh is 1/30 of the teams in MLB, not 1/3.

    This team's defense is at the bottom of the league. Offense is not their only problem. That said, there are other places to add defense that are more important than 1B.

    The Twins probably need a young catcher more than any other team in baseball. The Dodgers aren't done subtracting from their 40-man roster either. They still want to bring back Kershaw, for example. There are several players on the fringes of the Dodgers 40-man who are interesting (Andy Pages, James Outman, a half-dozen injured pitchers, a half-dozen AAA pitchers)

    Regression to the mean alert. Average MLB team records over their last 10 seasons if you want a fair comparison. The NFL consistently has less parity in a particular season with fewer interesting teams in any given year.

    The same NFL with 9 teams tanking for the first pick in the draft? The bad teams are worse in the NFL than they are in MLB.

    This actually suggests he has more downside than upside. If he wasn't chasing and was making consistent contact, then this past season probably was his upside.

    It is nearly TwinsFest so the front office should emerge from their annual winter hibernation soon.

    Our offseason signings would be Anthony DeSclafani and Enyel De Los Santos.

    Scherzer and Verlander are the top names for pitchers now, but Jack Flaherty might be the best bet for production. Pivetta should have taken the QO. Lots of pitchers left before teams start calling about Chris Paddack. Bregman, Santander and Alonso are the last QO position players available.

    That has potential to be the best bargain of the offseason. If he has a good season, Detroit still has the option of offering a qualifying offer.

    There's a good video interview of his parents in the stands watching him play. He's named after his dad, who was named after Mickey Mantle. They followed him all over the east coast last summer hoping to see their son get his first MLB hit but it never happened.

    So the solution to the below-replacement level bottom of our depth chart is to not try to make it better? There is room on this roster for two more offensive starters. They need an infielder and an outfielder. If they're going to cycle through rookies anyway then they need to sell veterans and go for a real rebuild.

    If the Twins had Santana under contract for $12M they would be looking to dump him.

    The Red Sox are positively loaded with expensive, injured pitchers. $80M spent on Sandoval, Buehler and Giolito.

    I count 14 of their 40 man roster spots committed to relievers. They aren't going to spend big money to bring in Tanner Scott. I don't see how spending money to bring in a free agent question mark helps.

    Sean Manea just signed for more than Pablo Jorge Lopez is getting paid. I would much rather have Lopez.

    Wade had an 840 OPS vs LHP last season and 709 OPS vs LHP in 2023. His OBP is well above league average vs LHP. He'd be a useful addition to the team whether they play him in LF, 1B or DH. If they platoon him they should be fired. Jorge Polanco is the perfect addition for a team with 4th place aspirations who wants to please the fans by bringing back a familiar name.

    That's always the report for Canterino. I'll believe he's healthy after he's pitched 50 innings.

    Caba has higher ceiling (comparisons to Francisco Lindor). Keaschall has higher floor.

    He's probably a better prospect than Keaschall. The scouts love his glove at SS. Plus the Phillies threw in a Yasser Mercedes caliber outfielder.
