    Joe has a .363 obp, .128 ISO, and accumulated 1.0 WAR, -9.3 dWAR in 576 plate appearances. Vargas has .355 obp, .260 iso, and accumulated .7 WAR, -3.1dWAR in 155 plate appearances. So nope, Mauer hasn't out performed the alternatives. Getting back to old discussions, I don't know how the Twins hold on to Vargas w/Joe on the roster, but it's clear they need to try. Vargas has been the better option and is going through Arb for the first time.

    oh yeah... he he, still not sure, but less convinced it's not feasible. Still not entirely bought in on Sano playing 3rd, which would put 3 first base/DH types and not a corner outfield DH type

    9 position players plus 12 pitchers plus 1 dh equals 22 of 25. 1 4th of, 1 if utility plus 1 bu catcher is all you got. Are you 100 percent committed to playing Sano at 3B all season and Vargas/Mauer at 1B/DH all season? Bench bat is a thing of the past

    how do you keep Mauer, Sano, and Vargas on a team with 12-13 pitchers? How do you get down to 11 pitchers on this team for two seasons? I can't answer either of those questions, but I'd really like the Twins to keep Vargas and play him regularly.

    i dunno, in context of how Pohlad operates... "I'm not going to tell the public about what's actually happening in regards to personnel until after it happens so I'm telling the public status quo". TR was publicly backed by Pohlad in April or May and was gone in July. He can't not back his current manager until the baseball operation fires him.

    ya, that's why they have AAA. Not saying he shouldn't work on hitting oppo, just don't over-tinker with an 800 to 900 ops guy too much, too quick. He already is a monster, wholesale changes for him at this point would be bad. And don't buy into the Dozier hype, it's a month of hitting like 5% more oppo. His BABIP is .269 which is right in line w/ his career. Things are looking good cuz he's yanked 30 home runs.

    to that end, prospects aren't arriving to the bigs "ready". Minor league coaching staff could be just as detrimental.

    I'm borderline angry with this move. The only thing that would satisfy me is if the other half of the move is a trade for a "good" pitcher. I understand that they were getting killed, and maybe they are just worn out and need to get shut down. Just shut em down and keep them with the club to keep working w/ the big league staff.

    Yup, if 90+ losses 5 of 6 years doesn't give one the true value of Dozier to this team relative to starting pitching, I don't know what will.

    Polanco and Escobar could eventually be a better 2b/SS fielding tandem than Dozier and Escobar or Dozier and Polanco. Dozier's not going to improve much as a fielder. Polanco still has youth on his side to improve his fielding.
