  1. dozier has peaked based on lots of well respected research that says baseball players peak between 27 and 30 and the logic that when a 28 year old takes a really big step and the assumption that the research is correct, then "he isn't going to take another big step" seems very straight forward http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=9933
  2. per Berardino https://mobile.twitter.com/MikeBerardino/status/804857667466493952
  3. Indeed https://mobile.twitter.com/MikeBerardino/status/804857667466493952
  4. i spent several years thinking of Smith as a terrible GM, but as time gets further away the more I lean towards the "he had the right idea, and he tried, it just didn't work out". Maybe he wasn't terrible, maybe he wasn't good, but if he had a couple more years he might have actually hit on his more aggressive style. I dunno... He's probably somewhere in the middle. I wish Mr Smith well (I assume in retirement as was the tone of the article) I have relatives that live in Ft Myers, maybe we'll bump into each other some day.
  5. I would not assume their stance on ABW has to do with how many 1b/DH types the ML club has. ABW had options, so I don't think it was glut or roster crunch. They could have stashed him for two or more years. A decision had been made that he was not a fit or something. The team needs to rebuild and go young, but of all positions to bring in a veteran presence, DH is the place to do it, especially with a commitment to playing Sano at 3rd
  6. Napoli would surely sign one, but I'm sure Levine would not offer one to him.
  7. I didn't say 1:1, I said pieces. Maybe unlikely, but say in the Dozier trade deal that returns a good package, Park or Vargas are floated as pieces of the deal. It would be reasonable to sign Napoli as a replacement.
  8. If Park and/or Vargas are pieces to trades that bring back Pitching or starting caliber slick fielding Shortstop then I'd be ok w/ signing Napoli
  9. I don't know Hu you are talking about
  10. its possible http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-beginning-of-the-end-for-pitch-framing/
  11. im with you, I hope for a big upgrade in one rotation spot as well as the middle infielder is a good fielding shortstop.
  12. looking at who was available 3 years seems reasonable. If there was another early free agency catcher and if Wilson Ramos weren't injured, then maybe you could make a case for offering Castro a 2 year 17 mil deal and he might take it, but the market is what it is and you always overpay in FA. They needed to, frankly. Revamping a roster happens one move at a time
  13. i would imagine a call like that might/would/should be scheduled a day or two in advance with his agent. It might be somewhat common for players to not want to take that call directly.
  14. underappreciated? Maybe, definitely not undervalued among Twins fans. Clearly mean, median and mode third baseman, and most of us(myself as much as anyone) were clamoring to trade him. I do wonder how hungover Halsey is right now....
  15. he has already signed a 2 year deal with the Royals. Tongue in cheek sure, but not so far-fetched.
  16. Seems like ABW was removed from the 40 for Palka. I thought there were some players left on the 25/40 who could have made space to keep both Palka and ABW. However I'm fine with the move. I hope ABW gets a good shot in Milwaukee and takes advantage of it.
  17. thanks Jimmer for brining this up a year ago. It asked questions that I have once in a while. TR isn't here anymore, but things will continue to arise as we are all human beings.
  18. id take project too, but agreed no 40-man chaff
  19. also according to "the aggregator not to be quoted" Castro has three offers on the table. I wonder how much longer this will string out...
  20. Id take what I could get with Plouffe.
  21. Thanks for sharing Seth. I do find the Boras relationship interesting. I wonder how our lens onto those dealings is shaded by our comfort with TR. The more we learn about Falvey and Levine, the more it makes sense with what my understanding of the already existing organization/Pohlad. Pohlad and St Peter both seem pretty conservative, but also clearly see the need for change. Falveys approach so far (it's really early) seems rather gentle. It doesn't appear that Falvey came in with a ton of preconceived notions and is apparently willing to let the process work itself out.
  22. Twins might have asked that he be left out
  23. What about Kennys Vargas? 333 OBP in the big, 363 in AAA, SSS but in line w/ his career. He's out of options and 26 years old, do you let 333 OBP go for nothing or rot on the bench? I think Vargas can fill Joes role better than Joe can and is young enough to have some upside. His K rate is a bit high around 20%, but 13% walk rate helps buoy his OBP. Sano too has shown the ability to get on base. K rate bothers me less than OBP. I'd rather Sano and Vargas K than hit GIDP, as those two are not speed demons and should not be beating out infield grounders with any regularity. With Bruno going bye bye, I think it's possible that a new hitting philosophy in the clubhouse can help ABW/Palka/
