  1. The key word below is aggregator. There has been significant debate on this site regarding the validity of aggregators of various sorts. One could also argue aggregating play by play metrics would by their very nature amplify extremes. http://sabr.org/sdi "The SABR Defensive Index draws on and aggregates two types of existing defensive metrics: those derived from batted ball location-based data and those collected from play-by-play accounts. The three metrics representing batted ball data include Defensive Runs Saved from Baseball Info Solutions, Ultimate Zone Rating developed by noted sabermetrician Mitchel Lichtman, and Runs Effectively Defended based on STATS Zone Rating and built by SABR Defensive Committee member Chris Dial. The two metrics included in the SDI originating from play-by-play data are Defensive Regression Analysis, created by committee member Michael Humphreys, and Total Zone Rating"
  2. was that the one with lego pictures?
  3. I don't think Palka's bat would be any worse. Probably lower BA but significantly more power. It would then continue the youth movement. In my mind all efforts to acquire talent should be pitching and shortstop. That bench is going to be constrained enough with all of the relievers required.
  4. having an $80 mil closer over the last 6 years would have resulting 2-3 more wins per season. Dodgers, Yankees, Royals and Indians have all been at least competitive if not favorites for World Series Champs and should take those expensive incremental steps. 2017 Twins on the other hand should be grooming a closer for 2018 and if they aren't convinced they have one in house, begin looking for one after the 2017.
  5. the article discussed how certain comparable injuries such as Tommy John had a high likelihood of success but Thorasic Outlet did not. Expected recovery is 40-60% but the sample size is less than 100 patients so it's hard to tell
  6. baseball in a game thread?
  7. a quad-a player would not be a part of a package I would want for Dozier. I would rather have a low A lotto ticket. Quad A players are already in plentiful supply in the Twins system and eventually you get stuck in a box.
  8. Im so sorry stringer bell. Spring training is definitely a goal of mine, but it usually falls during Lent which makes it a challenge for my wife to travel. Maybe 2018 we can go for the first week.
  9. Great subject Jeremy. Puig seems to be on the outs, I wonder if some salary relief could be a part of the trade, possibly w/ a third team
  10. no such thing. This market behaves independently. Every player is unique in value and once a player is drafted, there is no longer an exchange.
  11. kind of. As RB stated it, we're predicting markets. One has to assume rational decision making, we just need to put parameters around the rationale. Money may not be the currency and the payout may not be a tidy nest egg directly. It's still a market, and we're still attempting to predict economy.
  12. older male twin? That makes no sense Go Pack!
  13. This is from beyond the box score http://www.beyondtheboxscore.com/platform/amp/2015/7/1/8859137/thoracic-outlet-syndrome-pitcher-effectiveness?client=safari "The prognosis for almost all of the injuries we have discussed in previous installments called for a good-to-excellent chance that the afflicted player would return to his previous levels. However, thoracic outlet syndrome still possesses the potential to be career-ending (or wors)"
  14. theres a few Gen X here. I'm 36. From central MN but have lived in Wi since I moved out of my parents house, which means in about 6 months I'll have lived longer in WI than MN. I am a Sconnie in the very literal and derogatory sense, but I still love the Twins. As mentioned elsewhere I work as an inventory liquidity manager for a multinational manufacturer, so the market making discussions really interest me. I've been following Nick and Seth since the early ougts and just learned about BYTO when Twinscentric the Twinsdaily came around. I lurked until I took parental/paternal leave when my first child was born and then I got bored and couldn't help myself but to post. Now I'm hooked
  15. the Twins haven't operated like this i the past, but seems like normal hot stove stuff to me.
  16. haha. I work in inventory liquidity (supply and demand management) for a multinational manufacturing company. In this case we're trading contracts like securities instead of cash for goods like some of these market making discussions tend to be centered around.
  17. You are missing credit and time value of currency part of the discussion. Buying Dozier with De Leon is like buying a 2 year bonx with a 6 year AR MBS. The closer to maturity the less valuable the 2 year security becomes because your investment has less chance to grow. Meanwhile the risk decreases on the 6 year high risk AR MBS as time advances you are less likely for the debtors to default. The more Mature De Leon gets the more clear what his value becomes and lower risk = more value. More mature Dozier gets the less value he has, because in two years you don't have to give up any assets to acquire him.
  18. sure it does. If the Dodgers are waiting out the Twins, announcing you are walking away puts the ball in the Dodgers court. Perfectly fair to say up your ante soon or I'm keeping Dozier.
