  1. you can make a pterodactyl of Kenny Vargas?
  2. professional athletes play through pain. I have difficulty with the idea that he "hid" the injury. It seems like Perkins has historically been one of the more open players regarding injury. I wish Perkins well and hope he recovers but also hope that if he's not ready yet, don't push it. No sense in injuring himself or the team further.
  3. agreed, I also think his fielding chops at first are exaggerated and good fielding at first is a good thing, certainly better than poor fielding at third, however good enough is good enough at first. He's still a valuable player and shouldn't be discarded cavalierly. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to open up his roster spot in a trade, but that is not likely to happen. He's one of their best hitters and should be DH or First Base against most righties as health permits
  4. thanks for sharing the cub reporter link, it did a better job of detailing out that a partial no trade still has the same effect on waivers. I hadn't gotten that far on the thread, but glad I read it
  5. There was an interesting article on a blue jays fan site about such things. As I read it, 5/10 rights are particularly iron clad as compared to other contractual no-trade clauses. http://www.bluebirdbanter.com/2015/12/31/10697448/a-primer-on-10-5-rights-or-why-bautista-and-encarnacion-cant-just-be
  6. so I'm struggling w/ point of reference. Adrianza was 4.2 RF per game in 2016 and the NL leader was Story at 4.5. 2014 NL leader was Hechavarria at 4.37 and the highest over the last few years was Tulo in '07 at 5.31. Most of the NL entries have been in the 4.5 +\- .1. So that seems pretty good but I can't find a full table on bbref
  7. according to fangraphs he wasn't that great of a fielder, 3.8 UZR150 aggregate with heavy streaks and a 550 ops is even worse than Adrianza.
  8. theres a big difference between Light and Chargois
  9. have there been any rumors of Park or Parks agent asking for trade/release in the wake of being DFA'd? Edit, after screen refresh from this morning, I see the note from Tom... so prolly not
  10. agreed, but there's limitations, not least of which is that you're lucky to get 6 innings from your starter
  11. C - Castro 1B - Mauer 2B - Dozier SS - Polanco 3B - Sano LF - Rosario CF - Buxton RF - Kepler DH - Vargas Bench: Escobar, Murphy, Grossman Rotation: Santana Gibson May Berrios Santiago Bullpen: Hughes Haley Kintzler Pressly Belisle Rogers Duffey Chargois
  12. he might improve his contact rate as he adjusts, but yeah it's not like he's 25. He's pretty well established.
  13. My point is, for a team that lost 58% of its games over the last 6 years you shouldn't get too attached to any of the marginal players. Further no team (esp one with this big of a deficit in pitching) can afford to use up so much of its 25 and 40 man roster on players who don't play up the middle at a very high defensive quality. Too many hit only players hurt this team so badly over the last few years. i hope Park stays in the Twins org and becomes something similar to his KBO self in the MLB, but I'm more confident in Vargas being a competent MLB player than Park. Plouffe in 2016 plus Vargas and Park was the impetus to Sano in RF. While no longer the case, there was still a glut of DHs on the 40 man roster heading into 17
  14. I'll take that, and I really appreciate the lively discussion in a pretty dull off-season
  15. If you are keeping Plouffe then Mauer and Sano become first and DH by default. In which case why do you need 3 or 4 fallbacks to first base and/or DH?
  16. they could field a 12 man pitching staff If 6 of the pitchers on said staff were significantly better than what they have today
  17. yeah, I know it doesn't make sense, thanks for pointing that out
  18. im puzzled as well. Could it be an assumption that he might take a tick off the velo in order to gain command, and then possibly get shelled? I hope you can get some clarification
  19. if Rosario can figure out the patience part, he could be scary. His whole issue is letting pitchers throw junk in the general plate area.
  20. If my joints start barking louder between now and 45, I'm in trouble
  21. now makes sense vs. a few weeks from now in that it seems like there's a glut of better hitters still out there that would cost less in length of contract, so they can sneak Park through. If Park leaves, oh well. My hope is Levine needed Parks 40 man spot in return of a multi player trade including a return of a relief pitcher and a SS or utility player to compete w/ DanSan.
  22. I'm with you. Not sure what to think of Tonkin. Willing to give him a longer leash
  23. You can draft and develop players immediately? Last I checked quick movers take 4 years plus in the minors, let alone the time it takes to revamp the coaching staff and train/develop them as well. It may not take a full generation of draftees, but close. Let us not forget, the culture of Andy MacPhail and Terry Ryan has been in place for 35 years. It takes time to change that entrenchment. Cleveland did not solely focus its efforts on draft and develop either. Cleveland used the full repertoire of resources at every level to change the development strategy across the org. To put evidence behind it, Jack Goin has been with the Twins since 2001 as an intern. He described being tasked to look into analytics as I recall it somewhere in his early years as a full timer, and became the manager of baseball research in 2011. The culture change has already been going on for 6 years
