  1. I keep waiting for Joe to come up injured with some hard to detect injury (related to concussion or not) that puts him on the DL and after 6 weeks requires some kind of invasive treatment or surgery that sidelined him for the rest of the year
  2. ive had a few business trips to Portland and really liked it. It's a great area of the country that I could see myself living in. Agreed, very friendly people
  3. well, if he were to start, he'd need to get stretched out anyways. It wouldn't hurt to fine tune his approach in triple a before bringing him up. He should still be starting full time tine the bigs Aug 1 til the end of the season, and if he shows what I think he should, he would lock down a rotation spot for 17 as well
  4. my child is two and has never lived in or visited a house with a land line but if you hand her the old toy https://www.google.com/search?q=vintage+toy+telephone&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en-us&client=safari#imgrc=WAvkzwoh4-FUBM%3A She knows exactly what to do with it. On the other hand she taps and swipes my tv like it's an iPad
  5. i do understand the assumption of cleaning house. A team this bad is failing at almost every function
  6. yup and he might be convinced to retire in the offseason, but certainly not mid season
  7. it wouldn't be all bad to clear some 40 man roster to protect a couple of assets with options remaining as well. There might be some teams kicking tires, but until the team is willing to pay for part of their salaries, Nolasco, ESan, and Mauer are untradeable. Come to think of it, I'm not sure Mauer would want to be traded. I'm struggling with the reasons that have kept him here so far and I would think the competitive nature would have won out two off seasons ago. He may want to be a Twin for life more than winning a World Series
  8. i think in order for the Twins to trade any of Hughes, Nolasco, E. Santana, Mauer, the Twins would have to pay a big chunk of their salary. They might have to pay a couple years. However they would have to spend that money regardless, and they aren't going to go get high end free agents in a rebuild, not for a couple years anyways. Whether or not they'd do it, who knows? I can't imagine much love for dead contracts still on the books.
  9. picking nits but he was traded for a ptbnl or cash
  10. why would you carry a LOOGY on a 90 loss baseball team? The bigger concern is long men (plural) stretching out May and starting Berrios will have some short starts. You will need all of your relievers to be capable of pitching an inning plus and 1-2 arms that can go 2 plus and warmup quick. Otherwise yeah agreed w/ the go young and go all-in on the rebuild
  11. why would the Twins salary dump their best pitcher
  12. If I had my druthers both would be gone and TR would get a Nick Markaikas type and Grossman would be the 4th outfielder until Rosario matures a bit, but that's not a choice, nor realistic this season. if we're choosing between two alternatives I would consider team needs. I would value a bench bat to pinch hit for Suzuki or Centeno, or fill in at a corner once or twice a week and shift Kepler to CF to spell Buck. Arcia would have a possibility to use his one skill to hit home runs. On the other hand Santana would slot into any of the outfield positions, but be the same butcher as Arcia, not hit home runs or for average or get on base. Id choose home run potential in Arcia to complement the current roster, but that's choosing a punch in the gut over a punch in the kidneys
  13. if Dozier is so good, why des this team suck so bad? With Dozier, Escobar, and Sano on this infield Polanco would not play more than once a week until injury, and therefore would not progress, and Dozier will most certainly regress before his contract expires.
  14. yup, to put it altogether, it's good to see the K rate increase, but depending on Jepsen and Perkins was obviously foolish and many posters here pointed that out. Is it the worst group on the team? No but that doesn't make it good. 2 decently paid and frequently available pitchers in the offseason would/could have made all the difference. You can't say the same about any other sore point. They all would have taken more pieces or harder to find pieces, or much more expensive pieces to fix. Where the article misses the issue is every team, especially bad ones, needs incremental improvement in every facet. The K rate is a good sign but 40 man roster disaster and the way May got wore out for lack of better available relievers indicates larger issues in talent availability that seem like they may resurface as the season wears on.
  15. i wish I could like this one again, last time I heard it I laughed so hard I fell off my dinosaur, the Wisconsin drunk jokes just don't get old. Mind you I learned to brew at college in Minnesota...
  16. yeah sitting around and drinking beer is draining... Patience is the virtue
  17. theres more than three kids in the home run porch?
  18. i can't imagine how... It's only become one of the most prolific hobbies known to man... For about three batches unless you really like the process.
  19. first was great but I didn't learn from it. Second sucked cuz I didn't learn from the first. 15 years later and conservatively 1200 gallons later, I've gotten pretty good. Peanut butter imperial stout in the kegerator. Grapefruit IPA in the fermentor
  20. Things I do instead of watch the Twins Play with my Daughter, but she goes to bed at 7:30 Brew beer Play PS4 Fix/maintain my house Train my puppy
  21. id be ok w/ Polanco at 2nd. Dozier has been using a bit more of the field lately and may salvage a bit of trade value. Not much w/ that weird contract
  22. not the case according to the article. The grievance was because the Teins skipped the rehab assignment and immediately optioned Perk as soon as he was eligible to come off the DL to avoid Super 2 status. I don't know if Super 2 avoidance was the plan, but it seems plausible, and generally a player does the rehab assignment first before being optioned.
  23. I thought it seemed gimmicky too. I'm too lazy to look it up, but it also seems like Zukes has been getting more rest lately. It could be lots of things but not just the bat.
