  1. dont position players need to be voted in? Or are there position players that get chosen by the manager like pitchers? If it's a voting process I don't think a position player will get in...
  2. thats cuz they only call out the youth
  3. not certain ownership is on the plus side of the ledger here... And that's a pretty big item on the list
  4. maybe TR read Seth and took it as a challenge
  5. i think part of Seths premise is with sending the players down for a couple months to AAA (a development league) is that they go with assignments and use that time to hone some skills while TR jettisons the old fogeys. the challenge I have, is how much do you gain in 6 weeks of development league as a player. And how much trade value does a mediocre veteran gain by playing more? i very much agree with the outcome and I'd be tempted to send Sano down to play 3rd at Rochester every day until Plouffe is traded (hopefully about 10 days).
  6. I understood your point from your second post. Leaving it up to the "kids" would inherently not judge everyone the same. I'd love to see Kepler and Buxton up, but not at the expense of Arcia and Sano. If we were giving the kids the reins, you'd cut Mastro, trade Plouffe, bring up Kep and Buck to play every day and let Arcia and Rosario rotate through, while moving Sano to third. You're gonna have serious rookie related brain farts and cold streaks, but you give the kids a long leash regardless of results because that's what you committed to, to gain big steps forward in the future.
  7. do you really think it's possible or wise to trade ESan effectively 3/4 of a season into his deal? There's still almost three seasons left so they'd have to pickup a chunk of it to move him, which I dont see as likely. Also, why would any player sign with the Twins as a FA if they hand out contracts, no matter how wise, to Santana, Nolasco, Hughes in back to back seasons, and they offload all of them as quick as they can?
  8. nope, not clear at all. I was confused too. Cuz I didn't get from your statement that the Twins could yet pull themselves into contention, nor did I see any alternatives to Sano and Arcia that would give the Twins a better chance to succeed now.
  9. im backing off on 1, after further review. 2 are not chick flicks. Bridesmaids and Princess Bride are not chick flicks. Yes they have bride in the title, but that's where it ends
  10. 3 of them are "good" and not really chick flicks. The rest are movies my wife puts on when she wants me to leave the room
  11. this, giving the big league low leverage innings to an actual prospect with a real chance to succeed rather than taking a flyer on a guy off the scrap heap could have made all the difference in the world to 2016 and beyond.
  12. true but at 345, there were already two outs by the time Mauer got on base
  13. trade Plouffe, put Santana on the bench, rotate Arcia and Rosario
  14. i would add Kepler, Polanco, and Chargois need to come up and play in low leverage situations because the team will need them to contribute more meaningfully next year. As you point out, big trades aren't this GM's MO
  15. I worry that a trade that would land Trout would put the Twins in the same situation as the Angels are in currently. The Twins need to improve in a lot of ways including outfield, but more importantly they need to improve their pitching. If I were GM any big trades that I would target would center around pitching.
  16. it depends on what you think the cause and solution are the problem... But lots of them. I'm not saying it's the right thing, I'm saying it's the most likely scenario that Pohlad repeats everything he's done in the past because that's what his dad did too. He obviously doesn't doubt his ability to identify and hire the best talent, so why would he change course now? The goal isn't to win world series' it's to make money that has been very successful under Ryan
  17. its not about making the hire that you want. It's about the hire that Pohlad wants. The MO for the entire Twins organization since the Pohlads purchased it has been the comfortable hire. Almost every single notable hire has been of a person who in some way worked themselves up from a lower rung in the organization. Lots of companies work this way Other than Neil Allen, I can't think of another outsider who's been hired to the FO or coaching staff. And NA hasn't exactly looked stellar so far
  18. in 2016 he has a 94 ops+ and admittedly too small sample -2.1 uzr. He might be ok, but I expected more
  19. just cuz I'm Gen X doesn't make me old... Or does it?
  20. At first I thought Man Jepsen is overrated, then I thought "well, if he wasn't the closer would I have such high expectations?" The answer is Nope, he just has no business being the closer, it's not his fault. He's clearly Meh but that's still one of the brighter spots in the bullpen. Dozier is overrated however. He's improved from F- to D, but he's had some fielding gaffes to go with a long hitting drought carrying over from 2015. I am skeptical of his current hot hitting streak.
  21. Agreed w/ Thrylos. "Twins Way" is a less sexy moneyball. All the hype about on base guys and strong bullpens have made home run hitters and mid rotation guys cheaper on a relative output over a season basis. We're watching Twins Way baseball. The rest of the division and baseball just got better
  22. here's mine 1. Escobar 2. Mauer 3. Sano 4. Park 5. Plouffe 6. Arcia/Rosario 7. Dozier 8. Suzuki 9. Santana
  23. that was the touch'em all pub crawl, which was really fun until May imploded
