  1. It is my hope that Ryan and Ober do not hit the wall of that sophomore jinx that is all too real. If either one is going to fall flat I projected it is Ober.
  2. Nice article, but the thought of Smeltzer back on the club does not give me any hope of developing a quality pitching staff. Thorpe, Smeltzer, and Dobnak all looked like they might be something special, but all fell short. Dobnak got his contract, but when we no longer see him in the rotation or stories it will mean we have moved up a level and we need to.
  3. Maybe TD needs to start a new section for us old guys. They could call it, "I remember when". Like you I enjoyed the old brand of baseball - complete games, stolen bases, positions that were understood, launch angle and spin rate non-existent, and bullpen guys were failed starters who filled in when needed except for Wilhelm because he could do both well.
  4. Watch out Falvine - the competition is changing and let's hope all the teams push one another. And most important that the Twins match their efforts and investments.
  5. Happy to learn more about the Saints. Thanks for the nice work.
  6. I have not had any good feelings about Manfred for the last 3 years. His posture is one of an overlord and yet he is supposed to be the commissioner of baseball representing all sides. I am really disappointed. Everyone saw this coming and there could have been true discussion throughout the covid. Instead of using that as an excuse for not negotiating. Of course Manfred like selig and other worthless commissioners will get in the Hall of Fame and they will ride off into the future feeling like they really were special.
  7. His opposition - Sonny Seibert won `140 games in his career - he was not an Ace, but he was a good pitcher.
  8. Wallner is the one I count on. I like him better than Sabato and I see his approach staying focused - it is a MN thing. The other four are all question marks and I see Wallner as the first of the list to make the majors. Big bats play.
  9. Thanks for going into the pitchers. I think you will find a few more in the early years who defied age while supporting us in the bullpen like Al Worthington. More recently Jerry Koosman with a good end of career addition.
  10. I believe that Celestino is the answer. That is what they demonstrated this year and he will only be better each year from now on.
  11. Sabato keeps coming up in TD ratings and overall I feel like the majority of posts have supported my conclusion that I would rather count on Wallner. Sabato looks like another Rooker in the making.
  12. I found this article from last spring - youngest MLB players and thought it was interesting. The position players are getting younger promotions - Acuna, Soto, Guerrero, etc, but the number of equally young SP seems to be falling. And this article from last winter Best under 25 had two pitchers out of 25 players - and they were in the bottom half of the rankings. In September this article looked at the best pitchers under 25 - Just missing the top ten was former Twins prospect - Huascar Ynoa
  13. Thanks for the summary. I am less in on Enlow and Strotman than the rest of the commentators, but still love this group. One question I have for you Seth. Most batting prospects are expected to get to the majors about years 23 - 25 and after that they are considered marginal. I was interested in the ages in this group and wondered what the expected ages are for pitching prospects? I know that Nathan was 29 when he made it, but it took a switch to the BP and he started in the majors at 24, Berrios was 22 his first (and not great) year in MLB and Santana was 21. Viola was 22, Kaat was 20, and Radtke was 22. Strotman is 25, Gipson-Long is 24, Varland and Sands are both 24 and Enlow is the youngest at 23. None are ready for the majors, but their clock is ticking.
  14. You are probably right, but one of the issues that the Twins have is the inability to develop top of the rotation guys which we desperately need. And one issue is converting good arms to the BP to hasten their arrival, but at the same time few arms other than Santana find their ways back out of the pen.
  15. There is always a second part to any story and in this case it is Kiriloff. Will he hit, will he stay healthy, will he play 1B. His play may have more to do with our choice than what Sano does.
  16. Nice exercise - my hope is that Duran remands a starter and does not get converted unless we see that his ability to add innings is not there.
  17. Severino is the only one that interests me. The others are organizational catchers which every minor league system has to have.
  18. We are all confused by the inaction, but we should not be surprised. This FO likes to wait - just ask Lynn - and take players that are ready for a bargain contract. Not a good strategy for a team that is ready to contend, but seems to be a Twins pattern.
  19. We have so much to wait and see this year. However, your opening " The tool doesn’t project a rosy picture for the Twins’ rotation in 2022, as expected. It isn’t exceptionally high on many Twins pitching prospects, nor is it fired up about Mitch Garver." sure takes the shine off the one positive.
  20. There is no risk he succeeds or he doesn't and either way the twins will adjust. I think we will be revisiting this for years and it all comes down to the same thing. The twins have the money, Buxton has the talent and this is the way baseball has played these days.
  21. I am forced to wait and see. I remember that Mike Zimmer was the perfect fit. And I have seen numerous managers come with great expectations only to be fired and replaced by others who were going to be perfect. How do we judge a coach? What are the metrics for his position?
  22. Thanks for adding new names to our prospect list. Nothing on this group stood out - Vallimont still does not seem like a real asset yet and hopefully Moran will fill out a BP role this year. I hope you give us up dates when the season actually starts this year.
  23. Let's hope at least two of the prospects prosper this year beyond Ober and Ryan who could have the old Sophomore slump (which means that the league adjusts to them). Winder and Balazovic are my hopes.
