  1. I have to admit I have no idea what all these coaches do. First we had bench coaches to keep the manager awake during long games and now we have an assistant bench coach to make sure the bench stays dry and then we have quality control coaches - which do? If they kept the quality up we would have a better record. So who is responsible when things go bad like 2021?
  2. When things go bad, Stu goes worse - Not Matt Capps
  3. What splurge? Did I miss something? We have not shown any ability to splurge.
  4. Sano has been a conundrum since he first arrived. I am so sorry he is in the launch era age - if he cared more about hits and OBP he would be so much more valuable
  5. I do not see our patchwork approach working so I am all for pushing the rookies in and sink or swim, finding the best for the future.
  6. That is fine. I just am not excited about a signing like this.
  7. You are getting all the old guys posts. I will be fascinated to see what essays and articles TD uses to keep baseball in our minds. This was a good reflection. So next I expect us to dwell on Gabriel Maciel being drafted in the minor league Rule V draft. Was he a prospect? Last year was down, the previous years looked good. So here is my attempt to keep some BB interest. Thanks for your work.
  8. What the Twins owner and FO have to do is show us that they really are committed to winning. The moves before the lockout leave us in limbo - not much hope except for Buxton and the Angels have proven that having one of the great players in the game does not mean playoffs! Thanks for trying to keep our hot stove season stoked - the fire is in my woodbox, but not with the Twins.
  9. It does not matter how many prosper, what matters is that they got a chance. Baddoo caving is not what I see. He had a 2.1 WAR - good for a rookie, great for a rule V pick. That puts him behind only Polanco, Buxton, Arraez for the Twins. But I am not even upset by our loss, my posts are simply a support to any system that allows players to get a chance at the bigs.
  10. Nothing wrong with the article but this is a filler when there is no real news to report or discuss. I really don't care about this guy. If he comes through for us that's great, but bottom feeding is not exciting.
  11. But you can see what can happen when you look at Johann Santana who was picked by the Marlins and traded to the Twins. And then there is our pickup of Shane Mack from the Padres. I am just saying the Rule V draft is a good thing for players and gets them playing time. Who really knows if Baddoo and Wells would have been called up? But it does not matter, they are pursuing their opportunity and I am all for more minor league movement.
  12. His case is better than the other profiled ex-Twins. He is not good enough for the Hall, but he is good enough that he should get multiple years of consideration. He is much better than most people credit him. Just imagine if we would have had Pierzynski and Mauer together - Garver and Jeffers is not close to either.
  13. When I see 191 and 169 BA, 269 and 229 OBP I am not as overwhelmed by depth at this position as the essay emphasizes. Until Jeffers rediscovers his bat, Garver is the only one worth having in the lineup. Rortvedt should not be a starter, but could be a defensive backup like we have seen in the past if one of the top two are traded. If the AAA catchers are really talented they should be picked up by other teams. I have heard rumors that the Rule 5 draft will not happen. I would be sorry for that. It is good for the players and I would even make the rules more lenient. Getting stuck in the minor league merry-go-round has to be frustrating. Would Niko Goodrum, Akil Baddoo, Wells, or others who moved on with the drafting be on the active roster for the Twins? I doubt it, but now they have a chance. Open up that draft and let it go, I love the stories of opportunity and success.
  14. Or assume that the Orioles just did not have any other options.
  15. If we do not get a significant SS I want to see him get a major ST opportunity to prove he is the next great prospect and can take over the SS position. I would love a Kiriloff, Polanco, Lewis, Miranda infield - the future is right there. I see Donaldson as the player most likely to bring in a pitcher in a trade. The OF of Larnach, Kepler, Buxton would fit with this lineup, although I can see Kepler in a trade too. This is just a dream scenario, but considering that we are in a lockout - why not dream.
  16. Having watched both of them I am surprised at this. Thanks
  17. No Killebrew? At least at DH - no matter how you have to work the salary.
  18. I was a small HOF person and I would still like the Hall to create the Elite status for a room within it, but my overall feelings have changed. This feels so good because they are both good players and even better people. And personality does count - if Bonds and Clemens had the personality of Ortiz I think they would have been in the hall already. But the exclusivity that some writers (and me) have about the best of the best of the best needs some softening. The fact that both of these men are alive and can celebrate makes this even better. Imagine if Buck O'Neill were alive to deliver a speech at Cooperstown. There is a certain inevitability to the lists and if you know it will happen, elect the person while they are still around. That does not mean that players who have passed away should not get in. Finally, the election is more than the individuals, it is also about the team and the fan base. In the midst of lockout, we now have nostalgia and holiday happiness from the hall. It elevates us - as one posted comment stated now the 1970 lineup has four HOF players - that means something to us, even if it does not change the status of the teams win loss or standings. And, not to mention, Joe Mauer - you will get in, just a matter of time.
  19. Excellent summary - other than signing Buxton, the minimal action by the Twins leaves little to discuss. Until we trade for someone who can help us raise our level they still have a fan base that is restless.
  20. A wonderful day for Twins fan and for Jim and Tony. Are they true HOF players? Who can say and who cares. They are great players and people. I used to be a small hall guy, but that has changed. Either they kick out the questionable inductees, or they honor the really good people that have played the game. I am really happy for both of them, just as I was for Jack Morris.
  21. Did you look at his ERAs? He started our well - 3.69 and 3.89. Then 4.01, 4.81, 4.81, 5.02,5.19, 5.44,5.55, 5.95, 6.02, 6.16, 6.67, 7.87 It was a constant trend upwards and ERAs in those days were not inflated like now. Like I said he was an enigma to me. Yes he won games, but he might be the best argument for wins not telling the true story. I liked him, but this is an amazing trend.
  22. Scott was an enigma. For one year he looked like a HOF Ace, but if you look at his career after 1995 his era was terrible even when he was racking up wins at Baltimore. I was disappointed, but glad to see him gone. However, when he was on in his early years it was a wonderful sporting event.
  23. The choices are getting limited and I don't trust the twins to get the star that everyone would like. My guess is they're still waiting for the Lewis and Martin the step forward until the spot during the year.
