Who is the Twins 2022 Rookie of the Year?
mikelink45 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Miranda has really stepped up for a club that has often had trouble hitting with runners in scoring position - he seems to be able to get the bat on the ball no matter the situation. He is Arraez with power. I want him on my team. With Kiriloff, Lewis, and Larnach down how great it is to have a bat like Miranda step up. And so glad Ryan and Duran keep taking the ball while Ober and Winder are hit by injury.- 31 replies

I am glad that Pagan got through the innings but if you look at the number of runners on base and the excellent Fielding that bailed him out I don't think we can celebrate his rise to reliability. It really is a puzzle why we don't have a true Long relief man in the bullpen. We see a nice group of young players in the positions who can take us into the future. I keep hoping to see the same thing in the pitching side.

Did the Twins Find Value in Bundy and Archer?
mikelink45 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
This is hard. I think they did what was expected, but we should have expected more. Ryan is not an Ace, just a good pitcher. Gray is what we wanted and hopefully Mahle will deliver like the last game. But the rest of the rotation is not championship quality. If they had been piggybacked - each doing half a game and still being treated like starters how much would we have saved the BP and how many games would we have gained? -
mlb put up its new prospect list. At 33, Brooks Lee is on the list with Emmanuel Rodriguez at 97. Let's hope some others rise quickly. Although the AAA players are showing that they are learning the Yankee/Twins way!

Thank you KC - we needed that. Miranda, Arraez, Celestino, Gordon are showing that we have youth to move forward - if only Kiriloff and Larnach could stay healthy. But Kepler has now batted 4 and 5 after his one good game. Rocco, let him prove himself before putting him in key lineup positions. Love Gray's desire to pitch longer in games - we need that. It is not just fans who hate the early hook.

I can see how Rortvedt needs to improve his ABs, after all our catcher is batting 182.

Twins Giving Pagan a Leash to Hang Their Season

True, but that doesn't help the team. -
Twins Giving Pagan a Leash to Hang Their Season
mikelink45 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I just cannot stand the suspense and disappointment he has brought to the team. I will be happy to see him gone. -
How good it is to be back in our own division and especially against one of the two worst teams. These are the teams we have to beat! Let's hope Sonny Gray is ready and Kepler remembers that going the other way works.

Week in Review: West Slide Story
mikelink45 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
You covered it - there really isn't anything to add. Right now it is up to the team to step up and show us that it means business - and that includes our massive coaching staff. Time to make something happen. Just get us to a good ending of the season - we had a good start and have been mediocre for most of the season in a terrible division - its time to sandwich the bad with another good streak.- 17 replies

Previewing 3 Club Options Facing the Twins
mikelink45 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Drop Sano seems obvious, Keep Gray is also obvious, but Bundy is rightfully your big question mark. For me the rest of the season determines Bundy. Would you choose Bundy over Archer? Are either of them BP arms? Does Winder and Ober pitch well the rest of the season. It is an interesting post but for your big question it will be decided in the next two months.- 53 replies

I am not ready to say the team is done, but I need something to hold on to. Can we have a comeback win? Can Rocco let a pitcher that is hot pitch an extra inning? Will we ever get a hit with a runner in scoring position? Can we get a laugher where Emilio Pagan can pitch without pressure? Does Cole Sands pitch again? Do we have to see Kepler at bat again? I am not asking a lot, just a couple of these options to help me out. I just came back from 10 days in Canada along the great lakes and now will take 10 days going down the Ohio River - can I come back from one of these trips and find the world of TD in glee over the wonderful winning streak?????

You can add today's game to our disappointment and flagging enthusiasm. We lose 2 of 3 to the Angels.

Twins 3, Angels 5: Angels Comeback, Win on Walk-off
mikelink45 replied to Sherry Cerny's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Well Lopez has not fixed the BP and Pagan is still the same Mr Excitement that he has been all season. Bundy pitches really well and we pull him so we can burn some more BP arms- I won't even ask why - it is the Rocco way. But look at the arms we used up and next Archer goes 4???? Fullmer, Sands, and Megill are the three unused arms left. I know many blame the offense - but with a three run lead in the eighth we should have won the game. This is the Angels. Yes they have Ohtani, but 8 out of the 12 batters that they used hit less than 226- 70 replies

Ranking the Twins Most Needed IL Players
mikelink45 replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I like your essay, but I want Buxton off the injury bench! How is Leon doing - does he fill Jeffers spot? Gordon and Celestino are holding the OF together, but Larnach back and Kepler to the bench would be my desire.- 43 replies

Twins 4, Angels 0: Tyler Mahle Suffocates L.A's Bats

Since I do not care about playoffs that I do not think we can win, I love the tension in the race for first place and I want Arraez to take that title. I also want Miranda to continue to get hits and push for ROY - no chance, but he should be on the list.

My only request is that we finish competitively. Give us some excitement. I see us so outclassed in the playoffs that that is not exciting, but the race to get in is. Play hard, pitch well, and show emotions.
-
The prospect list is missing some oomph and Balazovic looks like he should be dropped completely. I had hoped for some rebound, but he continues to perform badly. The other names just don't have that buzz now - let's hope the new pitchers bring so much excitement that we won't notice (count me a skeptic). Spencer Steer cranks HR for Louisville. Cade Povich fans 8 in Oriole MiLB debute. Encarnacion-Strand hits his first HR for Chattanooga.

The 2022 Twins Are at a Low Point
mikelink45 replied to Nash Walker's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Are we at the low point or are we sinking fast? Are the three new pitchers going to turn things around for us? That is a lot to ask. 52 games - Mahle will pitch in 10? Times 4.5 innings that is 45 innings out of 468. Lopez gets in 1/3 - 14 games, 14 innings, same with Fulmer. That is a total of 73/468 innings (15.5%). Will they all be great innings? Tyler Mahle has an ERA of 4.49 and a whip of 1.233 and he is our savior. Is Ryan cooked? Will he come back, will the BP hold up for the non-Lopez innings? Can we afford more 4 inning starts? The more I look at this staff the more I like Verlander and Alacantra! I really am not concerned about the offense (except Kepler), but the pitching situation is always the most important in playoffs and champions. In one rotation ranking the Twins have dropped out of the top 10 - I was surprised that we were ever in it. Of course the ten that are in it are probably all going to the playoffs (the top nine for sure). In another statistical chart we are number 20 in era for the season. We are number five in HR allowed.- 25 replies

Three of the Twins' Top Prospects Done for the Year
mikelink45 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
I am concerned that we wait too long for surgeries. Don't we have a medical staff that can say - get the surgery now so you can get back on the field sooner? We do seem to have a lot of injuries - but how does it compare to other teams. To answer my own question - "MLB Injury Data Summary: The Tampa Bay Rays (1211 games missed by players due to injury) and Cincinnati Reds (1176) lead the league in total games missed by players to injuries and the injured list." https://www.mangameslost.com/category/mlb/ That does not include prospects. Spotrac has us number 12 in the league when measured by the value of contracts for days lost. "https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/disabled-list/cumulative-team/ In terms of days lost we are fourth behind the Reds, Rays, and Cubs with 1440. We are second with 28 players missing time - just behind the Reds.- 37 replies

Does it Matter How the Twins Reach the Postseason?
mikelink45 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Of course it matters. Getting in and losing is not a goal. I remember when Gardy had that good string of teams and the consensus of comments was that we wanted more than just getting in and getting beaten. Sorry, but stumbling to the finish line is not what I want. I want a hot streak. I want us to look at the Guardians and White Sox and then leave them in the dust. I want the other teams to want to avoid us because we are playing the best ball in the league. Has anyone enjoyed seeing the Twins set a world record for playoff losses?- 31 replies
