    A sad day - the Twins raised hopes against KC (who doesn't), but could not carry that success to a team that is above 500 or in first place. Big Hat posted How about teams in first place? I am too exhausted to look it up, but I know it is horrible. We are not ready for the playoffs, but hopefully our young players will have experience that will give us a better push next year. Like Bighat I think we could have used Steer. We have to hope Mahle can get over his arm issues because we really need pitching. I think Winder, Ober, Ryan, Gray will be good, if Mahle and Maeda come back and flash skill the rotation will be the best we have had in years. I know there is still games left, but with 16 games and a seven game deficit it means we have to have a 14 game winning streak to be close.

    KC, KC, KC!!!! - perspective - the praise in the last series was fun, but misplaced. Against good teams we are a bad team. Varland did okay, not great, Wallner raises the question - why did we wait. If we go 17 - 0 Cleveland has to go 10 - 7 for us to win. How will that work out? Bieber worked 8 innings - Rocco did you happen to notice that? Cleveland had 2 batters under 249 BA - the Twins had 5. Game two has Sanchez batting 4 and Celestino 5, Palacios 7 and Hamilton 9. Have we given up?

    Cleveland starter 7 innings only 2 RP needed it

    Too late. Too far behind and we will not win out and Cleveland is not going to have a big slump.

    I agree with the statement. Over used pen. Under valued starters. Yes there were errors but the biggest one was management of pitchers.

    Unfortunately his history says he may have just reverted to form. But let's hope not since we have them another year.

    I have felt like you for a while. This is not a time to play games with service time. If we think somebody can help us we need them. And Wallner seems to have a maturity that makes him a good candidate for a quick adjustment.

    I have reached a point with Twins help where I no longer project or expect - when players like Miranda stay healthy they give me some confidence that they will perform well for a long time. Even Gordon's ability to stay on the field is great considering his minor league record. It is because they stay healthy that Celestino and Cave have real value to the team. But Larnach is a player I hope to see in a prominent role, but like Kiriloff and Lewis it is a wait and see situation.

    We are going to miss KC, let's hope we enjoyed winning so much that we decide to continue doing it against a really good team. Cleveland - last six against KC - sorry to contemplate this.

    Yes, but do you want to bet that we can continue that success? And right now we need series sweeps, not splits.

    Can we trade the Dodgers/Blue Jay games for a few more KC games? I am glad we are padding our stats and beating the Royals, but how difficult it must me for the KC fans!

    It is the complete dominance of KC and the bottom dwellers and the complete incompetence against playoff caliber teams. Even bad teams are supposed to beat the good teams sometimes and good teams are supposed to play the other good teams at an even level.

    He fits the profile for the FO. He will be here for a few more years. I am not his fan but I do not see a change.

    I suspect most took more than 106 pitches, but then we never used to worry about pitch count.

    I can't comment on Rocco pulling Ryan. There's enough on that. What I can say is that I'm happy we got to play KC. They are our aspirin after the guardians headache. Good news about Ryan, but it's also consistent with the narrative I've read in past post that he is excellent against poor teams and poor against excellent teams. As a rookie this is to be expected and I look forward to seeing him continue his growth. It was also nice that Kansas City pitch batting practice for our boys and made everyone feel better. The guardians won again and that means a five-game lead with 22 games to go.

    This says it all. I am surprised by another article excusing the Twins for their bad judgment and after the "Death Spiral" I am surprised to see Nick writing this essay. We are not the only team to deal with injuries In 2019 the Yankees had 2246 injury days, In 2011 the Twins were the most injured. In between it was the San Diego Padres. It is definitely part of baseball, but we are on the list too often. This year we tried the days off routine which would be fine if we knew which days the player was going to be injured and then had them take those games off. But there is something else going on. Buxton is a chronic case and I do not know how they will overcome this fragile body. The same can be said for Kiriloff who missed a lot of time in the minors too. There are trends with some players and their bodies. It is why Paddock and Mahle are considered bad trades by so many. What allows a Gehrig or Ripken to go on and on? It is a mystery. And we are not close to finding a solution. The last point I would make is one that others have stated - some on your list may of may not have made the team -Dobnak (questionable talent), Maeda was a known loss, Canterino was not penciled in, he was someone we hoped would rise. Jeffers bat is not missed and his catching is better than Sanchez, but not as good as Leon. The three relievers you lumped together were fillers, not difference makers.

    You nailed the real issue. We have not had a good record with health - even with the arbitrary days off (a goofy idea) and DH days. A player has to be conditioned and play the position correctly. Being healthy is not a wish, it is a result.

    RiverBrian posted the above - it is something I have been thinking about. How many players do we have on the roster that have no value? The last four slots in our lineup cancel the value of the 4/5 hitters getting on base. This is where the injuries really show. But aren't there minor league batters like Wallner, Helman worth trying? I know that minor league value doesn't always translate to MLB - look at Cave's ST Paul stats. But we have to keep shuffling the deck until a few Aces show up. Go to AA if necessary.

    I looked in to see another former Twin in the minors - Chase Petty. He has thrown 103 innings in his first year! 3.57 era, 1.181 Whip, 102/32 k/BB Spencer Steer 231/322/462 line with 0.1 WAR in 24 games. Christian Encarnacion Strand played for three teams - has 30 HRs, 301/364/584

    Great to see a young pitcher moving up the ranks - can we continue his development? He went 7 innings - is that allowed?

    At this point I will take Wallner's bat - reports have his defense improving, no reports have Keplers ABs improving.

    Batting Kepler 4th, no matter what the situation is a reflection on the team and its decisions. As painful as this is, I once again applaud your clear and concise summary. Please answer me these questions: Why have we not given Wallner a chance to do something in this lineup? Shouldn't Ober's last rehab have been in Minneapolis? Is there a trend in picking Lopez and Pagan that might be avoided in the future? Should we really be expecting Buxton - injured every year, Kiriloff and Larnach injured both years on the club, Lewis injured in unimaginable ways each year, Mahle, Paddock, Maeda, Alcala, Ober, Winder in pitcher's purgatory to be healthy for a full year?
