    I remember Ruesse said Molitor probably deserved manager of the year more for the year he got fired than the year he got the award due to how the team played and actually improved after they dismantled it in July and the team started playing better rather than completely collapsing after losing some of their bigger players.

    The radio made it seem like it the coaching staff did not realize it was the second visit, and they did not mean to remove him.

    It is hard to figure out what just happened on the radio - but seems like it was not good.

    So you are saying we are not yet mathematically eliminated from the play-offs - possibly getting a second wild card slot? I do kind of think of the first couple weeks of April as not being much more reliable than spring training in telling how the team is going to end up (except perhaps when they started 0 and 150), but right now a miracle turn around win would still make me feel a little better.

    I am oversimplifying, but as fun as the homeruns were, I think the team took all of the bomba squad talk to their head and felt they could win every game with powering home runs. When you are on hot streak, you can get away with that for awhile, but when you are not going on all cylinders you get a lot of strike outs or warning track outs. It was 1 to 1 when my meeting started and had to check out -- I might check out again. Walking the dog in the rain might be better.

    Twins have been outscored 9 to 0 in the ninth inning this year - they might need to work on that - hopefully starting now.

    There are times when I am not sad that I have to listen on the radio... I swear I heard them say this is the coldest game Boston has played since 1979. It is cold - but not freakishly cold - and it is Boston - surely they have had some low 30 temp games in the last 40 years. The defense sounds better anyways.... Sounds like I did not want to see that homerun. I did find Astudillo's slide online.

    You are not alone. If I am listening to the game while driving, I often have to flip the station for awhile to get a breather from him. He would make Gilbert Gottfried seem understated. I think he has a decent radio voice, if he would just tone it done he would be a lot more bearable. I have not listened to his radio show in a long time. That was even more painful. I also like Corey. I have grown to like Dan with Corey, but I think Corey does the lion share of the work now. I remember in the semi-distant past getting in the car and getting frustrated because more than an inning would go by before I would get a score update.

    With talent but heavily drinking? (at least for O'Toole -- not sure about Gielgud, but I will go with the unfair assumption that many of the British actors of that time were drinking).

    My fault - just finished a meeting and turned the radio on as things started to go south - I will shut if off now and turn back the tide. This was not a danger when I actually went into the office.

    Have fewer spring training games been on the radio this year? It seems like every time I try to listen to one, it is not being broadcast - at least on WCCO.

    I remember one year during the post-2010 dark ages where I believe they finished spring training at the top of the Grapefruit league and I had hopes that they were going to start the turn-around. It did not end up being a good season and might have ended up being the year where they did not win their first game until around August.

    Nancy Reagan and Harvey references - things you do not find in many of the other sport forums and what makes this one stand alone Although no amount of bleach is going to erase that image of Chief and Nancy.

    So you have gone every year since grade school? You do know if they win the World Series this year, you will never be able to go to spring training again.

    1980 Miracle on Ice. Not technically a MN event, but since Minnesota claims any connection (they adopted a pet who was born in Minnesota) and the team did actually have a strong Minnesota presence. It was probably one of the biggest things from my home town to have someone on the team including big celebrations when he returned to town. Strange to think that night we were not even watching the game live, since it had played that afternoon, but the results had not leaked out. Cannot imagine that happening now. The championship against Finland was actually on Sunday morning (we almost late for my sister's confirmation - a lot of people walking in last minute).

    I was 2 when the Vikings made their first super bowl appearance, and every five to ten years they manage to have some sort of extra painful play-off loss. A name change might not be a bad idea... I wish I could remember enough of it to find it, but I read one article that nicely spelled out how even names that seem like they are honoring a culture it ends up being a stereotype and trivializes certain aspects of the culture. I am not explaining it well, but the article did a great job of making its point that even when the intentions were meant to be good, they were not. Like Chief Wahoo, I am not sure how the tomahawk chop made it to the 21st century.
