  1. Little known fact - Thing is not a fan of the head-first slide.
  2. I think it was when a Neanderthal, a homo sapien, and saber tooth tiger walked into a tar pit.
  3. I almost hate to ask this - have we won three in a row since that four game winning streak back when the earth was young?
  4. It takes a brave (or crazy) person to admit they think the same way as RB.
  5. I suppose asking Chief what his memories of Cain were would be a little too obvious of a comment.
  6. I have been avoiding Twins news due to the suggestion of my mental health specialist, but where is Perkins in his recovery process (not that he would make me feel safe and secure at this point)?
  7. Chief only uses the newest, freshest, most timely jokes, so if he cannot use them that night - they never see the light of day.
  8. Undefeated on days Mauer bats first! Of course no victory either but you can't have everything.
  9. My first job, other than mowing lawns and shoveling, was biking out to the local resort after cross country practice and grinding rust off of house boat pontoons under a spot light (it was fall so it was getting dark before we finished for the day). It involved lying on the back and cleaning with acid than sand blasting the rust off while both the low concentrate acid and paint flecks fell on your face. I think minimum wage was about $3.33 an hour, so I was living well. My best friend and I did it because they were supposed to hire us full time the next summer, and then the owner ended up hiring some college friends of his son. I am feeling a bitterness I thought I had forgotten...
  10. They are saving that one for when Murphy is brought in to pinch hit at a crucial point late in the game.
  11. The sad thing is they also knew it was an issue and said it was the number one priority in the off-season, but did not really do anything concrete to address that need.
  12. I have lived in Minnesota long enough to be familiar with disappointing games (my first sports memories are the last couple of super bowl losses), and I usually just move on from a loss and shake it off, but I woke up last night about 3:00 am wide awake and for some reason the game is what had entered my mind and it took me awhile to clear it from my head and go back to sleep I am assuming something else was bothering me and just manifested itself as an anxiety hang-over from the game, but I would appreciate a victory tonight, or at least a loss in under 5 hours and less than 20 strikeouts.
  13. I don't think McCarthy was known for having a good sport and good sense of humor. I am thinking he read the thread and did what he could from whereever he is at to make us play less at a less than a premium level - at least for one game. You are probably also now on his list. http://www.patrickstomlinson.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/joseph_mccarthy1.jpg
  14. New guy has to buy a round of drinks for everyone on the thread -- and not the cheap stuff.
  15. Sometimes people would drive down to the Cities and would let us know what was going on in the outside world (although generally people would only make that trip for the state hockey tournament). Cable came around 1980 and then we were only about ten years behind. Unless you lived in the country - then there was no cable access unless you built a really big antenna or a massive satalite dish. Sometimes we would get reception for a Thunder Bay station. It would show the World of Disney on Saturdays, so those were special weekends. I also vaguely remember a Canadian Captain Kangaroo type character called the Gentle Giant - which I suspect would come off kind of creepy if I saw the show now.
  16. Growing up between Duluth and the border myself I would agree with that. Although at that time it actually was the 80's.
  17. Yes - that kind of bums me out. Such a great story of a lot of hard work and perseverance to make a dream come true and now it will always be tainted. I read his statement and he says he does not know how it got into his system. I am always a little skeptical of player statements like this, but if that is true and he did not knowingly or intend to use a controlled substance, I feel for the guy. Plus, unlike some of the bigger stars, losing that half year salary will be a big hurt financially, not to mention this might simply end his career.
  18. Is there another Brian I don't know about?
  19. I have heard the Sisters of Battle your Tales Off have been really worked their rosaries like crazy to make this happen. Coincidentally the Mother Superiorsie is Punto's aunt. http://spiritualdirection.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/nuns-playing-baseball.jpg
  20. If we would have won just two of those first nine we would be looking at 6 and 7 right now. Damn you nine game losing streak.
  21. There is a joke found in Leviticus that might predate Chief. I think it begins two prophets walk into the desert.
  22. Is it my imagination or has his defense seem a little more inconsistent so far this year?
  23. Well you would be drinking during the tennis game, so abstaining the night before would not make a lot of sense.
  24. You two can go on an epic date after we win the World Series.
  25. I just saw a GIF of Mauer's throw from the outfield -- that was nice. Somethings just don't come across as well over the radio.
