  1. I don't think anyone is blaming Joe Mauer just because we wonder if he could have been more aggressive in voicing his ability to play despite a tough lefty on the mound. It's also not unusual for EVERY poster on this site to speculate and form opinions without knowing 100% if they are right. I mean that's kind of the point of the message boards. Why is speculation about why Colon is still in the rotation, or Dozier trade rumors not castigated like this? Nobody in this thread took a personal shot at Mauer. Leadership is a perfectly in bounds criticism of a pro athlete.
  2. Is Mauer not capable of telling Mollie that he's available despite the tough lefty?
  3. And people wonder why Joe's leadership gets questioned. An embarrassing lineup because our 23 million dollar veteran doesn't want to face a "tough" lefty.
  4. The person you are quoting didn't say anything about the manager, or imply that anyone other than the FO was responsible for not having another bat here.
  5. I didn't see that said, or even implied, anywhere in the article or replies.
  6. I don't think Slegers would be taken. Every team already has a Slegers or two at AAA.
  7. Insurance only pays a fraction of the salary, if at all. Some pitchers can't even get insured. The Diamondbacks made a big offer to resign Brandon Webb several years ago, but had to retract the offer when they couldn't find an insurance company that would insure it. Even when they do have insurance, it doesn't kick in until after 3 months, and even after it kicks in it only pays part of the remaining salary. A player that misses the entire season MIGHT get 35% of his salary paid by insurance.
  8. Twins are 10th of 15 teams in runs scored. They are 13th of 15 in earned runs against. They need both, sure, but they need pitching worse.
  9. I highly doubt that anything Kintzler does in such a small sample size as the playoffs is going to make him THAT much more expensive after the season. Maybe if he's lights out he costs 500k to 1 million more over the life of the deal. That's not scaring anyone away.

  11. I would guess he'll slot in either right ahead of or right after Rortvedt in the low 20's on mlb.com.
  12. Can't we just send him down for a week next time he blows a save? Or does he not have options?
  13. Neither Kepler nor Murphy are prospects. Both are well past 130 plate appearances.
  14. Nobody the Yankees gave up is even close to Gordon, IMO. Gordon is top 35 on midseason mlb list.
  15. IMO, ERA is completely meaningless in regards to projecting prospects. Check out Stewart's k and bb rates, they are pretty ugly.
  16. Given his age to competition, those k and bb rates are just okay, not great.
  17. As far as keeping his head in the game, I just don't think Rosario will ever figure it out.
  18. Correct. Nobody they have dealt or will deal is good enough to preclude us from winning without them. And that includes Santana, who hasn't really helped the team much since the middle of May.
  19. They made a modest move to show the locker room they had their back. The locker room responded by getting swept. At that point there was really no reason to keep Garcia anymore. Of course it's an odd situation, but I like that they roll with the punches. I feel like the old FO would have felt obligated to keep Garcia for some reason.
  20. One can admit that the Stewart pick was entirely defendable, while also saying that it doesn't deserve a "very good" grade based on its results. I find that to be a fair take. Frankly, unless the Twins invite us to visit their inside notes and reports (which isn't happening), it's also completely fair to go off results.
