  1. I liked it better when it was Burdi, and I'm not a huge fan of paying for a rental when you're such a long shot to make the playoffs. But, all that said, if I have to live with trading for a league average rental, this seems like a fair enough price to do so. The part I love about sports is that we eventually get to see the results, and that is fun. Will be fun to see if this move helps us win a division, and if not, if losing Ynoa comes back to haunt us.
  2. Probably apples to oranges, but just for fun, Gimenez actually has the exact same bWAR as Breslow at this point (negative 0.1), so relative to his respective position, he is in fact performing just as poorly as Breslow by at least one metric.
  3. Somebody failed (either manager or FO) if Jason Castro is ever pinch hitting with the bases loaded in a close game.
  4. If Garver's defense is so bad that he can't even get called up over Murphy- who isn't even hitting AAA pitching ( nearly .300 points of OPS worse than Garver), then Garver just simply isn't a catcher.
  5. I don't see the value in Gimenez, but admittedly it's the position that is the hardest for a fan to gauge.
  6. Rogers opponents OPS is .749 vs RHH, .596 vs LHH. That is a huge split.
  7. I'm actually relieved that we only offered Burdi, given some of the names differed around here - Garver, Thorpe, Wade, specifically. Until he can prove that he can throw a baseball without hurting himself, Burdi would struggle to make my top 30. His stuff and potential mean nothing if he's on the DL, and I don't believe that most injuries are just random and/or bad luck. We may not yet know why or be able to predict when a player gets hurt, but that doesn't mean there isn't a reason. Burdi seems like one of these guys that just can't stay healthy.
  8. Unfortunately we've seen a lot of bad Santana since his hot first 5 weeks.
  9. Well they said no rentals, so not EXACTLY what they said. It was Kielty for Stewart, and though there were a few Kielty believers, definitely nobody cared that ladendorf was traded.
  10. Yes. Not only can Haley be traded, he already has been traded once since he was selected in the Rule 5 draft. Rule 5 picks can be traded, the only stipulation being that the new team is under the same roster restrictions as the drafting team was.
  11. My guess would be when Haley comes back: 65% Pressly optioned 28% Breslow DFA 5% Belisle DFA 2% other
  12. You know, if I had a gun to my head I'd probably say this isn't a playoff team, even with help. But, every time I've expected them to fold, they haven't. Therefore, I wouldn't be able to sell. At least not right now. Still over a week until deadline, so that could change. At the same time though, I'm just not giving up any legit prospects. Definitely not giving up Gordon, Gonsalves, or Romero. Would prefer not to give up Thorpe or Wade either. Would consider buying undervalued pieces if I can get them for guys like Jorge, or Granite, or Rosario, etc.
  13. I wouldn't give up Gonsalves for Verlander, but I'd do Jorge and either Rosario or Granite.
  14. I agree. I'm on record many times saying i think Rosario likely has a ceiling of a really good 4th outfielder. But, i still run him out there everyday until a CLEAR better option is ready. You just can't give up on these young guys who had at least some pedigree in the minors - Rosario, Buxton, Polanco. Every prospect has a different learning curve, and sometimes guys outperform their milb profile (think Dozier).
  15. This vote was so egregious its embarrassing. Anyone who voted for Colon isn't qualified to cover baseball, IMO. Willing your team into providing run support isn't a skill, and you shouldn't need any advanced metrics or new way of thinking to realize that. We looked at that stat differently then is no excuse, IMO.
  16. I wonder what the structure would look like on a long term extension for Max.
  17. I would have done the deal straight up for DeLeon. Said that at the time too, so that's not in retrospect of Dozier crashing back to earth.
  18. That's pretty optimistic, IMO. I'll be happy if he contributes a half WAR as a 7th inning guy for a couple years.
  19. He's getting more than one start regardless of how the first one goes.
  20. Well so far he's amassed 1.2 WAR and he's only in his age 23 season - or the same age that Florimon was putting up a .483 OPS in AA.
  21. If Colon was only signed as a mentor he wouldn't be in Rochester. I do not work with the Pohlads or the FO. The above is my opinion only and not meant to be taken as factual.
  22. Yeah Rollins only averaged 13 HR per season, and had a career 95 OPS+. Gordon likely will never be as good defensively, but it seems bizarre to suggest that he can't be at least as good offensively. Of course Thrylos has never been high on Gordon. I think he projected Vielma to have the better career a few times last year.
