  1. With those k and bb numbers I might not even have Littell in the top 15 to be honest. Be honest Seth, if he had the same numbers except w/l was 0-5 instead of 5-0 would he have won?
  2. No, not even close. He had 7.9 bWAR that year, which is a great year, but, just for perspective, Barry Bonds alone had 11 seasons with more BWAR than that. I'd doubt it would even come close to top 100.
  3. Well the new guys hired a new hitting coach, for one. From the outside looking in, that move looks brilliant. Buxton, Polanco, and Rosario are carrying the team, and even Mauer is back to his old ways (almost). They've also done a lot of behind the scenes stuff, that may be helping the players and field staff be more prepared in game. Could just be bias, but it sure looks to me like everyone is much more situationally aware than they were last year.
  4. There is plenty of room in this rotation for competent back end starters, IMO. Even with an FA or two. Berrios is the only SP on roster that I have full confidence in for 2018. Santana has been good, but that could end at any moment.
  5. I admit, I've been very down on Gibson for a couple years now, even after 2015 when others we're convinced he'd turned a corner then. But, if he is the rare guy that finds something new at age 30, then obviously that's great for all involved. And, I'll be happy to eat crow if he has figured it out.
  6. Yeah, new staff same preseason garbage. 17 points against Buffalo? That's pretty pathetic for anyone, let alone a team that has West title aspirations. The encouraging thing for me though, is that Fleck was openly disappointed and acknowledged that it wasn't good enough. Kill/Claeys would have been happy to win regardless of opponents skill level.
  7. Obviously he's unlikely to have a long career in mlb, but you never know. I'm hoping he makes the most of his opportunity, he's a guy in our system that I've always rooted for.
  8. I think you misunderstand my point. I wasn't saying a lite hitting SS from nonNY team X couldn't win them. I said that a guy who was average , at best, defensively- as Jeter was, wouldn't have won them if he was hitting .220 in Oakland.
  9. Fine, but good and reliable shouldn't be GG worthy. I don't think he wins them if he's a good, reliable SS hitting .220 in Oakland.
  10. Look at how many Jeter won. There was a time when it was more or less a popularity contest.
  11. Just because it was a popularity contest in 1999, which I don't think anyone disagrees with, doesn't mean it still is.
  12. No, that's not a reasonable innings qualification at all. Defensive metrics have zero value at 100 to 200 innings. Moreland doesn't even drop below 2nd place until you get below 290 innings - that's 33 games. He doesn't drop below 5th place until you get below 206 innings - or 23 games. Suggesting Mitch Moreland won a gold glove because of his popularity is totally off base. Can you guess who is 1st this year using your tiny innings standard? Kennys Vargas.
  13. From the article: First and foremost, let’s take a look at what nabbed the award a year ago. Mitch Moreland grabbed a Gold Glove, and despite the sometimes poor decisions for the award (I’m looking at you Eric Hosmer), was a deserving recipient. Moreland posted 7 DRS (2nd), 6.4 UZR (1st), 9.2 UZR/150 (1st), and a 5.0 RngR (1st) a season ago.
  14. Is Mitch Moreland really that popular?
  15. Are you sure it's the same people though? There are a lot of posters here.
  16. Santana was actually even much better in June of 2006. Just 5 earned runs in 6 starts. 44 k to 5 bb's in 43 innings.
  17. Thanks. Example #6,753,861 of ESPN incompetence. No BS listed in their boxscore.
  18. There are a couple errors in the article. 1)Johan wasn't technically a rule 5 pick by the Twins. He was picked by Florida ( the Twins picked Jared Camp), then traded to the Twins. 2) Lowering the mound would help the hitter, not raising it.
  19. Yikes. I was trying to defend the board, not mock them. I guess no good deed goes unpunished.
  20. I remember the angst in that thread, and I know I wasn't down on him, but was there really a significant number of people on here who wanted him DFA'd? Or was it one or two out of hundreds of posters?
  21. I don't believe IP or pitch counts mean much. If a guy is strong and maintaining form, let him pitch. If he's fatigued to the point that it affects his form or mechanics in a way that is inviting injury, that's when you shut him down.
