  1. I highly doubt that the FO thinks those moves were a blunder. Do you have a source for that?
  2. I agree 100% with Nick. Not nearly everyone agrees that the deadline moves were a "blunder", jim. I think they were great moves. Yet, you keep stating it as if it were fact.
  3. Yes, eventually production has to match the tools. I'm just not sure it has to be in the first half season. Aside from learning how to be an adult, and a professional, there is the sample size aspect, as well as Pearson being hampered by a shoulder injury.
  4. Neither has played even a full season of pro ball yet. Tools are much more important than any stat line at this point in their development.
  5. I like it. Catchers are weird, so I won't even try to evaluate him. But, I really have high hopes for this Pearson kid. He seems to have all the tools.
  6. Knoblauch is not in for off field reasons. In fact if I recall, his induction was cancelled at the last minute.
  7. Well you are alone on an island, and I commend you for that. But, I disagree vehemently. There doesn't seem to be any question about how good of a pitcher he is. This isn't like signing a 16 year old, or drafting an 18 year old. This isn't a matter of betting on tools or stuff. He's ready to step into any teams rotation as a #1 or #2 starter. Of course anything can happen, but in the same sense that anything can happen with any player - whether FA or homegrown. As Chief said, there isn't a single GM in baseball that would say no at his minimal price tag.
  8. Yes, plenty of legit ways to show Terry Ryan was a mediocre at best GM, and I agree he was. I just think hof players drafted isn't a very good one.
  9. I'd venture to guess that the vast majority of those 50 to 60 players were drafted by GM's that were out of the game by the time said player was inducted. You draft a guy, 3 or 4 years in the minors, a 15 year career, 5 year waiting period, you're talking 23 years minimum from draft to first ballot. This is a meaningless way to evaluate a GM.
  10. It's peanuts. We're not talking about $200 million mega deal, or even $60 million mid tier. I think you are vastly underestimating how good of a pitcher he is. We'll see who's right, I guess.
  11. One less out per start and he misses it last year. He's absolutely not hitting 200 IP if he shows "severe regression".
  12. Ok, I was going off memory. But, I looked, and you're right, their ERA+ during their peaks are closer than I thought.
  13. I assume Darvish is one of your two sure to be overpaid FA's, who is the other one?
  14. I have no idea what he's like. But, allegedly, one of the questions on the questionnaire was literally , "do you like me?". I hope that's just a weird lost in translation things, because otherwise that's a bit of a red flag.
  15. I think you are not giving him enough credit as a pitcher. Getting him would be a jackpot. If it takes 50 games of a guy barely cracking .600 OPS to get him, oh well, I'll take it. Look at it this way, he'll be conservatively a 4+ WAR player, more likely (IMO), a 6+ WAR player. Even if his bat is putrid for 50 games, it'll likely only subtract 1 WAR at worst, likely less. No brainer, IMO.
  16. For the record, I could care less about the record. For me it's players looking like they've never even played football before, his lack of addressing the most important position, and the absurd gobbledygook that comes out of his mouth.
  17. Ruesse is the only one not falling head over heels for his shtick, as far as local media goes. Well, Common Man too, if you consider him media.
  18. Well there isn't much competition in the Conference he was in before. And he had 1 awful year, 2 mediocre years, then 1 good year which ended in a loss when they had to play a Big10 team in their bowl, so it's not like he built a dynasty, or a sustained run of sucess. Sometimes a first date is enough to know it's never going to work. I don't need to see 3 years, though no disrespect to anyone who does.
  19. Another coach would have at least tried, instead of essentially taking a knee for 3 quarters, trying to keep the final score within 50. What message does that send the players? "When things get tough, we quit." You guys can take as much time as you like, I don't need to. He's in way over his head, and has zero substance, which is why he needs his shtick.
  20. If HS kids eat it up, then why hasn't he been able to recruit a single QB?
  21. Fleck is in way over his head. Not even trying. Running the ball the entire game despite being down 20+ most of the game. This guy is a joke. Makes Brewster look modest by comparison. This entire program is a joke for falling for this guys shtick.
