  1. Kamala Harris' actions as prosecutor and attorney general are indefensible.
  2. I don't believe that is true. Hopefully someone can link some clarification. I remember when some posters were suggesting a 1 or 2 year extension for Mauer, it was pointed out that they'd have to allow him to officially become a free agent before they could offer him less than 80% of his current salary.
  3. MLB contracts can't be truly "front loaded" under the current CBA. A player under team control must be paid a minimum of 80% of his previous season's salary.
  4. They won't waste Lewis' best tool (speed) at third base. If he can't stick at SS, he moves to CF.
  5. You can control what voluntarily goes into your mouth. You can't control a vendor handling your food with peanut residue on his hands, which for some people, can be enough to kill them. That said, there is only so much you can do about that risk. But, this is a business self imposing this ban, it's not a government ban, so I have zero problem with it. People who want their peanuts can take their money elsewhere, just as free market is intended.
  6. It causes people to tell their boss they have the flu.
  7. Oh, he meant the Twins. Now that's funny.
  8. The Dodgers and Nats are both in the NL, they can't meet in the WS.
  9. The Wolves have been, and continue to be the worst run team in town. Unloading that albatross should have been a no brainer.
  10. Good thing the Twins didn't take JJ Schwarz (remember him? Didn't think so) over Royce Lewis.
  11. Any player? I think every single player in baseball would see a team that went to the NLCS as being in a better spot than a team that won 78 games. I doubt many players spend time looking at prospect rankings and trying to project years down the road. They are looking at who is doing it better right now, and right now the Brewers are way better than the Twins.
  12. He intentionally tanked because he hates winning?
  13. Depending on which Hildenberger is the real Hildenberger ('17 or '18), he might not belong in the league, let alone the '19 bullpen.
  14. Actually Castro has been a (slightly) plus defender in 3 of the last 4 years, totaling 9 defensive runs saved above average over that span. There is so much more to defense than just throwing out baserunners, especially in this era of station to station offense. 25 years ago might have been a different story, I suspect he'd be at least a slightly negative defender in that era.
  15. Yes, how terrible would it be to get to the Super Bowl... oh wait, I wouldn't know.
  16. The Rockies won 91 games last year. It's pretty difficult to imagine them being sellers at the deadline. And if they are, you aren't getting an MVP caliber player like Arenado without including Lewis or Kirilloff. And finally, I can't possibly see him signing an extension if he's 2 months from free agency. Maybe there are more examples than I think, but I can't imagine that's ever happened, with a premiere player.
  17. Nobody was willing to trade anything for Cron 6 weeks ago when Tampa waived him for nothing.
  18. They have an option for Perez next year.
  19. Fortunately there have been studies of the data, and both fip and xfip have been proven better predictors of future results than ERA.
  20. I can understand that. But, he's 27 years old. I'm giving the FO the benefit of the doubt that they think they've identified areas that they can improve. I don't think the FO is intentionally adding a player that they think will be bad.
  21. A floor and cap, yes. It would be nice to not have to make excuses for certain teams (valid or otherwise) anymore, nor debate whether the players are overpaid or the owners are greedy anymore.
  22. Martin Perez has a better ERA+ than Wade Miley, and is 5 years younger. And the Twins got an option.
  23. I'm ok with the signing. But he's guaranteed a spot out of ST, IMO. Who knows how long into the season they'd have to get to eat 4 million, but there is no way they are eating it before the season even starts.
  24. Business owners fight tooth and nail for every additional dollar they can profit. That's a far cry from being an unsustainable business model. There is plenty of gray area between "owners could make even more money if they drew more fans", and "this decline in attendance has doomed their business model". Personally, I say just tie payroll to revenue like the other leagues do, and be done with it. But, we'll see if that gains any traction.
