  1. Ok, didn't realize there were ballot restrictions, per team and such. Just figured they'd open the ballot with the guys with the best numbers, regardless of team, official starter/backup, etc.
  2. I don't understand how this conflicts with the integrity of the game? Teams and players have made adjustments since baseball started, how is this different? Was the increased emphasis on base stealing from the late 70's through the early 90's an encroachment on the integrity of the game? Does anyone look back at Brock, Coleman, and Henderson's historically disproportionate stolen base numbers with some sort of asterisk?
  3. I can understand being skeptical, until another outlet reports it as well, but how can you possibly be close enough to the situation to definitively call it "fake news"?
  4. Several people here wanted Benintendi on the day of the draft.
  5. This is a bizarre story. The Daily Mail is reporting that he was shot by two police officers, who were ordered to kill him by a drug kingpin, in retaliation for allegedly sleeping with his wife.
  6. How is Garver not even in the top 10?
  7. OPS against still relies on things outside of the pitchers control. Balls that Buxton get too routinely are doubles against some centerfielders.
  8. I believe Forsythe was only included in that deal for the Dodgers to stay under the luxury tax. The Twins don't have to worry about that. They aren't trading their starting second baseman at the deadline.
  9. This doesn't make any sense. If Cleveland decides to sell, it's not going to be for a veteran on an expiring contract.
  10. I read the article you linked, and Thomas was explicitly arguing against "Enshrining a constitutional right to an abortion based solely on the race, sex, or disability of an unborn child" (his words). It's disingenuous to take his opinion from a very specific case, and apply it to the very general issue of access to contraception and abortion.
  11. Do you think anyone really believes that Trump thinks the Moon is part of Mars? This is pretty trivial in the grand scheme of where we're at in our political climate right now.
  12. Hey we can hope, it's cool. I'll believe it when I see it though.
  13. It was just a note. Of course it doesn't matter.
  14. Buxton is making so little because of how badly he struggled. I expect to see 2 years of fringe MVP play before he gets his ARB3. He's on pace for 7.5 bWAR, and I expect improvement next year. Berrios will get a bigger deal than Severino, IMO.
  15. I'm not saying it's dire. I'm saying it might be an attractive option. They can't keep Odor or Gibson for anywhere close to as cheap as Stroman is. Those are decisions that FO's have to make when they have a budget.
  16. They aren't signing extensions this close to free agency. And I doubt we can afford both, if they both keep pitching this well.
  17. I can't disagree more on Stewart. Those numbers are nowhere near acceptable. Doesn't mean he can't develop, but you said he's shown he can hold his own now.
  18. Twitter shouldn't be used to for nuanced discussions, so I'm not sure how sympathetic I'm supposed to feel when he struggles to make clear points with a character limit.
  19. I don't think it's that small. Six teams times how many games each team played to make it that far (roughly 12 games each team) is a 72 game sample size. We could go back further, and I'm confident the majority would be "deserving" teams. I just used three years because that is how long my memory goes back, didn't feel like researching.
  20. Most revenue now comes from media deals. They reportedly spend half of revenue on payroll. That would mean a $50 million per season increase would be needed to support a $25 million per season payroll increase. Is that really feasible just from increased attendance alone?
  21. Maybe we won't need FA additions. But my point is that you know this place would go haywire if they sat out FA completely, let alone two years in a row. The pohlad's are cheap argument regarding Kimbrel would look like a "meh" compared to what we'd see in that case.
  22. I addressed that already. The $20 million was the bare minimum I thought you could get away with paying them with back loaded extensions. The $29 million is if it plays out year to year. I used the $29 million because I don't actually believe any extension would pay them that little, just that it's in the realm of possibility if they were severely back loaded.
  23. Sounds like confirmation bias to me. Every major league hitter looks baffled by a pitch or two every game. One of my favorite things about baseball is that the numbers most often do tell the story, especially on the hitting side. There is no such thing as an empty 1.000 OPS. Nor is hitting mlb pitching so easy that one can just luck into those numbers, or only achieve them by only hitting mistakes.
