  1. Schoop is not controllable beyond this season. He became a free agent once he went unclaimed. And, even if he hadn't, he'd still be a free agent after 2019 due to service time.
  2. We don't know if they added 2 good players. I'm okay with both signings, but let's remember both guys were non tendered by competitive teams.
  3. Why on earth would you want King Felix in your rotation?
  4. The 10 playoff teams from last year COMBINED to have 8 players hit. 300 or higher. Only 16 players in the entire MLB hit .300+. Nobody hits for average anymore. Walks and HR's rule the day now, whether we like it or not.
  5. Bosses are responsible for the productivity of those working under them. I doubt Steve Jobs was personally on the line in the factory assembling iPhones, but nevertheless it was going to be his credit/blame if it prospered or failed. As it should be.
  6. Winning games in 2019. Flipping him for assets if he has a bounce back and they aren't winning games. Exclusive negotiating window after the season if it's a good fit for both sides. Hopefully competent bridge to Gordon/Arraez/Lewis if one or more are ready by 2020.
  7. Where his salary ranks on the roster has nothing to do with whether he was bought low or not. He's coming off a disastrous season, and was non tendered a year after getting MVP votes. If he were hitting the open market after 2017, he'd get 5+ years and $80+ million. It's absolutely buying low.
  8. I for one really like this signing. It's the type of buy low, high ceiling type of signing that I always wanted Ryan to try more of.
  9. There are two posters in here saying that Kepler is easily replaceable, and suggest trading him for a front of the rotation pitcher. Why on earth would a team trade us front line pitching, the second hardest position to fill in all of sports, for such an easily replaceable player??
  10. Are we really going to start criticizing the FO for things that Doogie is "reporting"? I think we'll get more accurate results posting what a magic 8 ball says.
  11. If they give $50 million to DJ, I'm out. And no, that's not even a realistic offer for Kluber, not close.
  12. You don't think pitchers tend to nibble more at a place like Coors? Of course walk rates are going to be higher there.
  13. Ahhh, "sources". I smell a contract extension on the horizon. Or, at least more money added. Do these college football coaches have the greatest racket going or what?
  14. Why are you splitting the difference? .673 career OPS away from Coors Field, .698 last year.
  15. They already signed Adrianza to a guaranteed contract. I get it's not a lot, but they didn't have to, and they did, so they aren't cutting him now.
  16. How does Harper make our pitchers better?
  17. What would an .816 OPS from a guy that can play 3B cost on the open market? A lot more than $4.8 million. If you want a guy with 3B/1B/DH/OF flexibility for 4.8 million, you are probably looking at a 60 point OPS loss. The FO clearly thinks he made adjustments that make his .816 OPS sustainable, or they wouldn't have guaranteed him a contract.
  18. I get that. But, you are probably sacrificing at least some bat if you play an outfielder at DH, so you are paying something for that insurance against injury.
  19. What I mean, is if a player is capable of playing 3B or OF, why is he playing DH, why isn't he playing 3B or OF? Playing Buxton at 1B would be wasting part of his skill set, as would playing a third baseman or outfielder at DH. If the FO wants a full time DH, rather than a rotation, then why does it matter what other positions he can play?
  20. Wouldn't someone who can play 3B or OF kind of be wasted at DH? DH is a position in the AL. I prefer it to be treated as such, rather than just a place to rotate your other position players through.
  21. If Austin is the everyday first baseman, then you still need a DH.
  22. I'm not sure they actually wanted him. They offered him a contract that, while technically might have been the 2nd highest, he was never, IMO, going to accept. And I'm sure his agent made it clear to teams that he wasn't signing without a player opt out, so IMO, the Twins knew he wasn't going to consider their offer.
  23. They wouldn't have given Cron a guaranteed contract (they didn't have to), if they were going to let him fight it out in ST. Cron is on the roster now, barring injury.
