  1. And even without an opt out, he's young enough to get another big contract after this one. He has plenty of incentive to perform.
  2. SS requires a stronger arm than 3B, due to the longer throws from deep in the hole, moving away from 1B.
  3. That's one possibility. It's also possible they just weren't interested in him.
  4. Buxton's ceiling is higher than Jerrod Dyson. Buxton has already put up a 5.2 bWAR season. Dyson's highest is 3.2. Dyson may be Buxton's median probable outcome, but his ceiling is factually higher.
  5. Not to mention it was clear to everyone here that Logan Morrison didn't have it, yet there he was, occupying a roster spot and a starting job.
  6. I too am not bothered by opt outs. However, the FO went on record after Darvish didn't sign here saying they aren't willing to offer them.
  7. You mean like when he demanded that Molitor stay on as manager? That kind of "absentee owner"?
  8. The Twins have a budget, whether we think they should or not. Bringing back Santana for $14 million was not a realistic option. What bigger and better things is he on to? Last I checked, he's still without a team. He suffered an injury that he'll likely never be the same from, we're you watching the same Santana as I was last year? The oddest part is within the context of your post, as Santana would have been the biggest gamble of them all.
  9. Texas didn't DFA Perez, they declined his 7.5 million dollar option. Paying him that much wasn't an option, so the fact they declined his option doesn't necessarily mean they didn't want him back.
  10. They seemed pretty invested in Logan Morrison last year, well after it was quite obvious he didn't have it.
  11. Wait, when did Romero get converted to reliever? I know it's been discussed as a possibility, but for now he's made 0 mlb relief appearances, and 3 in milb when he was hitting his innings limit.
  12. The goal of any business, from a Fortune 500, down to a mom and pop hardware store, is to increase profits year over year. So, I'd guess the other 50% of increased revenues isn't spent- it's increased profit. I'm fine with that. This is America, it's a business, not a charity. It'd be nice if they actually spent the 50% they purport to though.
  13. His numbers outside of a 20 inning sample size at Chattanooga were pretty good. Here is what MLB pipeline has to say about him: Alcala does show aptitude for making adjustments, so there is belief he can remain a starter. His control and command also need refinement, but he's making progress in both areas. If he does wind up in the bullpen, he has closer potential and could regularly hit 100 mph in shorter stints.
  14. It's not an assumption. It's been reported. Not being able to find a link is not the same thing as not existing. I don't know if or how much savings they reinvest in the organization, but as far as actual payroll, they've explicitly said they do not carry over savings to future years.
  15. Nationals; 7 years with Harper: 637-497 7 years prior to Harper: 492-642 21 more wins per year with Harper. Orioles; 7 years with Machado: 566-568 7 years before Machado: 480-654 12 more wins per year with Machado.
  16. I'm certainly in the vast minority, but I actually think this has a chance to be a sneaky good move. I'm guessing the FO sees something, be it mechanical or pitch selection, that they think their guys can get turned around.
  17. Winnetka average temps:June: 78/57 July: 83/63 August: 82/62 Also, climate and weather don't get caught in traffic. So your 2 hour and 1 hour examples are meaningless in this context. The Chicago metro area is about 60 miles by 45 miles. That is big, but not big enough to have a significant disparity of climate/weather.
  18. If it's neither of those things, then why do you keep saying them? This isn't the first time you've suggested either of those. Having criticisms of decisions they've made is both fair and warranted. Suggesting they are plants here to undermine the Twins for another team is beyond believable. And it likely makes most posters immediately discard any salient points you might otherwise have.
  19. You are contradicting yourself. Before you said they were here to intentionally sabotage the Twins. Now you say they are using the Twins as a stepping stone to bigger and better things (that would require them to do well with the Twins). Which is it?
  20. Well, two posts after this one you claimed you were convinced on BJ Garbe after 4 at bats. So, you're contradicting yourself a bit when you say the FO can't be convinced after 15 innings.
  21. It only takes 2 wins to get to the Super Bowl, with a first round bye.
  22. Hypothetically, what should they have done with Curtiss if they are already convinced he's not an MLB caliber player?
  23. Maybe you are missing all the other stats besides HR's? His OPS in August and September were basically the same as April: April: .986 August: 958 Sept.: .959 He had a twinkle June, but every other month was over 800.
  24. Why would they regret this? They DFA'd him to clear a roster spot. They were willing to lose him for nothing. Anything they got is a freebie.
  25. How many teams have GM's that are from the state that their team plays in? Derek Falvey is from Massachusetts, not Ohio. So wouldn't he actually be trying to sabotage us AND Cleveland, for Boston's benefit? I wonder how long he's been doing this? Probably his whole career, I'd imagine. Crazy part is that he'd probably have gotten away with it too, if you hadn't figured it out.
