  1. There is nothing subjective that goes into FIP. It's a measurement of something that happened, just like ERA or OBP.
  2. I probably agree, but keep in mind that Jose Berrios was the pick we would have lost had we signed a QO player that year.
  3. I could be wrong, but I don't think Gordon has much chance of being a SS in MLB. If he makes it, it'll be at second base.
  4. I guess my question would be the following. If it's not reasonable to expect this cut to have healed in the 6 weeks since it occurred, then why should we expect it will heal now? And if the answer is that they are doing something different this time that is more likely to work, then why didn't they do this originally? It seems like for whatever reason, they were a little lackadaisical about the injury the first time around. Perhaps they underestimated the severity of it. Which would be a shame for all involved.
  5. I always suspected you guys were winging it.
  6. Sorry, I loved watching Liriano dominate that year, but one pitcher is not the difference between getting swept by a bad team in the first round, and winning the WS. Perhaps if they'd lost that opening round in 5 games you'd have an argument. This statement should breeze through Common's preposterous statement tournament.
  7. Police radar guns can be miscalibrated though. You can demand records of calibration for a speeding ticket, and if they haven't been properly calibrated and/or recorded, you can get the ticket dismissed. Some cops will even provide the reports on the scene, if you ask.
  8. There only needs to be a market if the Twins are desperate to move him, which they aren't right now. Perhaps if they fall out of the race, and/or Garver or Astudillo cements themselves, but right now they'd need to be blown away to move him.
  9. Sure, but they can find guys like that without giving up real assets, so long as they don't care about their offensive game. Some people here may be down on Castro, but he'd definitely cost legit prospects to acquire right now, especially within the division.
  10. That's quite a liberal use of the term prospect. The Twins did extraordinarily well to get any value whatsoever out of Granite, considering his draft status and limited tool set.
  11. Does KC really consider themselves a contender?
  12. Castro has a career OPS .14 points higher with runners in scoring position than he does with the bases empty.
  13. Parker had a lucky season. His FIP was 4.40, which is awful for a reliever. This is why LA let him walk when they had him under team control.
  14. I don't believe that is true. Hopefully someone can link some clarification. I remember when some posters were suggesting a 1 or 2 year extension for Mauer, it was pointed out that they'd have to allow him to officially become a free agent before they could offer him less than 80% of his current salary.
  15. MLB contracts can't be truly "front loaded" under the current CBA. A player under team control must be paid a minimum of 80% of his previous season's salary.
  16. They won't waste Lewis' best tool (speed) at third base. If he can't stick at SS, he moves to CF.
  17. Any player? I think every single player in baseball would see a team that went to the NLCS as being in a better spot than a team that won 78 games. I doubt many players spend time looking at prospect rankings and trying to project years down the road. They are looking at who is doing it better right now, and right now the Brewers are way better than the Twins.
  18. He intentionally tanked because he hates winning?
  19. Depending on which Hildenberger is the real Hildenberger ('17 or '18), he might not belong in the league, let alone the '19 bullpen.
  20. Actually Castro has been a (slightly) plus defender in 3 of the last 4 years, totaling 9 defensive runs saved above average over that span. There is so much more to defense than just throwing out baserunners, especially in this era of station to station offense. 25 years ago might have been a different story, I suspect he'd be at least a slightly negative defender in that era.
  21. The Rockies won 91 games last year. It's pretty difficult to imagine them being sellers at the deadline. And if they are, you aren't getting an MVP caliber player like Arenado without including Lewis or Kirilloff. And finally, I can't possibly see him signing an extension if he's 2 months from free agency. Maybe there are more examples than I think, but I can't imagine that's ever happened, with a premiere player.
  22. Fortunately there have been studies of the data, and both fip and xfip have been proven better predictors of future results than ERA.
  23. I'm ok with the signing. But he's guaranteed a spot out of ST, IMO. Who knows how long into the season they'd have to get to eat 4 million, but there is no way they are eating it before the season even starts.
