Any night owls wake up early or stay up to watch the Ryder Cup morning matches? I sure hope not after the showing USA put up. Sneaking in as much of the second session at work as I can but once again not looking great for the Stars and Stripes so far.

Twins Playoff Roster: Infielders
Logi_Clevs replied to Cody Schoenmann's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I think it will be vital to turn to guys like Correa and Vazquez in the playoffs. These are guys that have "been there, done that" and they have the playoff experience needed to lead a young team. Like Cody mentioned, Polanco is another guy that can be looked to for leadership. Even if someone like Vazquez doesn't play every game, his leadership in the dugout and the clubhouse is something that will be vital for the Twins to make a deep run.- 12 replies

In my opinion if the Twins decide to do 11 pitchers and 15 hitters, Larnach and Luplow are gone if those 3 are added. If they go to 12 and 14, then I think you're right and Stevenson appears to be the odd one out. If either of those 3 (Buxton, Correa, Lewis) are unable to play or do not make the roster, then I think Stevenson becomes the next man up no matter what.

So what happens in the bottom of the 9th in a tie game and Jeffers or Vasquez leads off the inning and draws a walk? If Castro and MAT are already in the game or have already appeared, we just leave Jeffers there and hope for a ball in the gap? Do you realize how much pressure that takes off a pitcher not having to worry about a runner? And to answer your question 12 pitchers for a best of 3 series is overflow in my opinion and teams can get by with 11, having Stevenson as your 15th hitter.

You absolutely need a spot like this for October. Late in the games it is vital to have someone like this come in the game as a pinch runner, put pressure on the pitcher, and steal a base - or maybe even a run. Look at someone like Terrance Gore and how vital he was for multiple teams in the postseason. With the Twins lack of speedsters, I think Stevenson is someone that should be a near lock.

Rocco Baldelli and Pinch Hitting in the Playoffs
Logi_Clevs replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Completely agree. Often times it is easy to try to change an approach when it comes playoff time. I think the key is to just stick with what you know and what got you there. Of course, there will be certain different aspects in the playoffs vs the regular season like the amount of starting pitchers you utilize and what not, but in general, teams should stick with what works for them.- 7 replies

I think - like you stated in the article - the pitching will be fine. I think the starters will be ready and the Twins will have great options if they do need to be pulled after 4 or so innings. Now, that doesn't mean the starters should have a very short leash, but obviously shorter than they would in the regular season. The last thing I want to see is Pablo to slightly struggle in the 3rd, deal in the 4th, then get pulled after the inning with 60 pitches when he could have gone another 2 innings. I know we like to talk bad about the pitching decisions the coaches make, but in reality hindsight is 20/20 and it would be an impossible decision for any one of us to make. My biggest concern is putting runs on the board. Yes, it would be great if the arms only give up 1 to 3 runs, but it won't mean anything if the offense cannot produce.

Twins Make Dubious History with Strikeout Record
Logi_Clevs replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
There are different situations that require different approaches. I am a high school baseball coach, and trust me, I have to PREACH this to the guys day after day. It frustrates me watching a hitter (at any level, especially pros) watch strike 1 down the middle, swing at a bad pitch for strike 2, then swing for the fence at an even worse pitch for strike 3. I'm all for swinging out of your pants, but only in the right situations. I just wish more guys would shorten up with 2 strikes or runners in scoring position. Situational hitting is something that is rarely thought of or talked about during the regular season, but it can separate contenders from pretenders come October. -

I'm 23 so all I've known is playoff disappointment. For all of you that were able to experience the 87 and 91 WS, is it better to be you who have experienced the high mountain and then despair ever since, or am I in a better emotional situation because all I know is disappointment and failure and know to expect that?

A Wish Comes True for a Former Twin
Logi_Clevs replied to Theodore Tollefson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Love that for him. Hoping to continue to see him flourish. Impossible to not like the guy. -
That what I thought initially but that would mean an 11 AM start local time, which I don't think they would do. I think its more likely to get the 1:00 local time slot. Either way, an 11 AM start time wouldn't stop me from having a 10 AM beer or two. Can't drink all day if you don't start in the morning!!!
-
Last year there was a little deviation with game times but they were all pretty consistent for games 1 and 2. I wouldn't mind a 3 or 4 CST start time - still close to primetime vibes but still get home somewhat on time 😂
-
We got tickets for Game 2 and we are about 4 hours out of Minneapolis. I think a night game would obviously bring the best atmosphere, but at the same time I wouldn't look forward to getting home at 3 in the morning (can only get one day off of work).
-
How many of you were able to snag some presale tickets? Going to Game 2 hoping to witness a series win! Edit: Just saw there is a topic already on this - Apologies!!

I wonder if Julien's time playing in the WBC this spring will have a positive impact. I know it is different than the MLB Playoffs, but playing for your country is a whole other level of pressure that not many players experience.

The Astros are Not the Juggernaut You Remember
Logi_Clevs replied to Adam Friedman's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I honestly think the AL is so wide open that even if the Twins get knocked out early it would still be an exciting race. On the NL side it looks like the Braves should have it locked down but any team could get hot like the Phillies last year and make it interesting. In reality I'm coming in with absolutely zero expectations and just hope the Twins can end their losing streak so we can finally stop hearing about it. -
I agree. So are we more comfortable having to win a pitcher's duel against Seattle or a high scoring track meet against Texas?

Byron Buxton's Playoff Role Might Be Big Bench Bat
Logi_Clevs replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I disagree. Leaders generally tell themselves "I'll be okay, let me play through this for my team." Leaders aren't always the team's best player and the team's best player isn't always their leader. They are the clubhouse presence that everyone looks and turns to, which I think Buxton was and still is.- 58 replies

Byron Buxton's Playoff Role Might Be Big Bench Bat
Logi_Clevs replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I think the most important thing is that whether he is on the playoff roster or not, Buck just needs to be present with the team. He is a leader - he wants to be a leader. I think with his veteran status now, he will know how to excel in his role no matter what it is - even if it is a "hype man" in the dugout giving high fives and creating new handshakes with anyone and everyone. I can almost guarantee he misses the team and will do whatever he can to play any sort of role and be back with them.- 58 replies
